The Story
Welcome to the G.A.F. the elite fighting force of Gaia, the best of the best fighting force the world has ever known. We train for the worst of situations so we'll be at our best, join and become a legend.
The Base
The dock and surface level airbase is the only way to get onto and off of the island. This is a subterranean base on a island off the the coast of Gaia
Surface (Level 0)
Lift Access
Lift access to each level will require passcard authorization. Sublevels will not appear on the control panel when a surface level passcard is in use. Cargo lift is similarly secured with the addition of retractable bulkheads. Under alarm conditions, both lifts will lock at the upper level. Combat personnel will rotate in guard duties for each level, including the guard station on the surface level.
Emergency access is through a normally locked stairwell adjacent to the personnel lift. In the event of a fire alarm, this stairwell will unlock. Fire control systems are self-contained for each level.
Level 1. Hangar
Hangars
3 hangars surrounding the central lift shaft allow 3 separate VTOL aircraft to launch from one facility with minimal concealment requirements. The hangar complex is served by maintenance, arming, and fuel depots and connects to the main corridors through R2-rated double blast doors.
Maintenance
Located adjacent to the hangar complex for routine craft maintenance, inspection, and repair.
Arming
Craft weapons maintenance, craft ordnance storage, and re-arming equipment.
Fuel
Refueling equipment for the aircraft. Only one load of fuel is maintained on site for safety, but it can be topped up in minutes through the armored pipeline connection.
Workshop
For assembly of anything up to a full-sized aircraft. Final assembly of an aircraft would of course have to take place in a free hangar due to the size restriction of the double blast doors.
Fabrication
Prepared for clean-room electronics fabrication at one end and metal milling and plastics forming at theother.
Briefing/Ready Room
For assembling flight and combat crews at mission-ready status.
Armoury
Issuance of personal weapons, ammunition, and ordnance for training or missions. Located between briefing room and hangar, and near indoor range.
Indoor Range
Practice range for personal weapons, standard interior 8-stall design, backing onto sandbagged blast wall.
Stores
Main storage facility for weapons, ammunition, food & KP supplies.
Level 2. Personnel
Barracks
Each set of barracks North and South has segregated sleeping quarters and adjacent washroom facilities with showers.
Canteen & Kitchen
The canteen has table seating for 50 personnel and shares washroom facilities with the north barracks. The adjacent kitchen has refrigerated and dry storage, full gas facilities, and heated cafeteria serving tubs.
Gym & Rec Room
The gym is marked for a basketball court and suitable for weight machines. It shares shower facilities with the south barracks. The rec room is suitable for lounge seating, pool table, and television equipment.
Medical (Med-Lab)
Room for 20 beds and nurses’ station, plus supplies.
HVAC
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning equipment for this and lower levels. Includes janitorial storage. Most ventilation runs alongside the lift shaft.
Level 3. Command, Physics Research, and Engineering
Signals and Communications
Control of the collected satellite and radar tracking information. Monitoring of aircraft and tactical communications.
Secure two-way real-time communication with the North American and subsequent bases will have to be through civilian-level telecom pipelines, so security such as pigsback encryption will be required.
Theatre
This is a larger media presentation area with seating for 100 and screen projection equipment, suitable for briefings involving all base personnel.
This area also contains sleeping quarters for 15 administrative personnel.
Engineering Research (Eng-Lab)
Suitable for engineering simulation workstations and prototyping equipment.
Physics Research
Suitable for physics research workstations and experimental equipment.
Cyclotron
A requirement for the particle weapons research program, but also suitable for materials analysis through mass spectroscopy.
Level 4. Systems and Biology Research
Climate-
controlled computer room for the base network. Halon fire control system.
Laboratory Stores
Contains storage freezers in addition to regular palletized storage space.
Generator
Main generator for base power supply, running on hydroelectric. The emergency lighting system has its own battery packs if the generator fails. If main generator fails auxiliary generator will come online after a few seconds
