What is a Furry to you?

This can be, and generally is a very broad question, as everyone has their own definition. I see it as someone with a love for animals, and perhaps a greater understanding of them than the average person, fursonas aside. Someone who can generaly understand what their pet is thinking better than they can, perhaps, another person. On the subject of 'therians', I have a theory branching off of the more common one. Rather than a person possessing an animal's full 'soul', I believe it's more a..fragment. A final 'urging', if you will, to fulfill the animal's needs, and give the being of their choice insight into their world. As I am a Christian, I believe that perhaps this process is guided by God himself--but I do not wish to force my views on anyone.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?

While I enjoy a great many things, I've always had a softspot for animals, and I've always felt that tug to donate to animal-oriented charities. I don't believe that I am anything other than human--although I have my own theories as to why I feel such a drive. I also enjoy drawing, and viewing furry art, as well as reading and writing stories geared toward a more... furry audiance.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?

Again, this can be a very broad question, as everyone has their own definitions. There are 'fans', 'fetishists', 'conservationists', and 'therians', from my own point of view--but this is only my opinion, of course, and a person may belong to more than one group, with lots of grey area inbetween them. Fans are, of course, as they sound. They enjoy furry-related things, and perhaps produce them themselves. But they don't neccesarily see any more than that. Fetishists are, perhaps, a simply more deviant version of the 'fan'. They are..sexually arroused by various fetishes, and share them throughout the furry fandom, as the furry community has a tendency to be more understanding, and thus, open to them. (Such as inflation fetishes, and vore, which are often shunned outside of the furry community.) Conservationists are, perhaps, where I stand. Conservationist was the only name I could come up with for one who might be a fan, but with more of a drive to help protect animals, and ensure a better existence for them. Then, finally, we have therians, an area where I have some crossover. Therians take a more spiritual view on their being a 'furry', and some refuse to use the terms furry, and furre, due to the bad reputation behind them. This deserves a topic of its own, perhaps, and as my furre side has little hold over my religion, (save for me believing that the two mesh, as it is, rather well,) I can't really discuss it myself.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?

As much as I would like to, this is an impossibility for me, at the moment. There aren't any in my area, I have no license yet, and I don't have the gas money to pay someone else to take me. (:

Do you have a "fursona"?

Yes, I do. Celeathka is my artistic representation of myself. She is a chimaera, partially rat, bear, coyote, and raven. She represents my so-called 'totem animals', if you will, in blended form, mostly the aspects of my personality given a more..physical form.

What do you get out of being a furry?

I enjoy being a part of an often...more understanding, and open-minded community, that's willing to take their views as their own, and respect mine, as well. I also get to share my art and writings with like-minded individuals, and help them with their life's troubles, as they help me with my own.

AzarathPrince
What is a Furry to you? A furry is a person who shares a special connection with animals, respecting them as equals. Such a person might dress up like one, act like one, do anthropromorphic art, roleplay, etc.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? I thoroughly enjoy roleplaying as a non-human. I don't wanna be a demon or a half-vampire or something dark like I've seen in so many other RP's around Gaia... and I like drawing the art as well. It's a fun challenge. (see my profile)

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
There are different levels of furdom, I think. Those that lightly enjoy the art and concept, those that like the roleplay and to dress up, and dangerously obsessed ones which should be avoided because they think they ARE animals. xp

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? I live in the middle of nowhere, so no, I haven't had the chance to. sweatdrop

Do you have a "fursona"? Yes. A white wolf with blue eyes.

What do you get out of being a furry? Furries bring me a sense of total acceptance for what I am. They respect my sexual preference (bisexual), my opinions, and rarely fight for stupid reasons. I enjoy the challenge of drawing characters with fur, tails, markings, and muzzles in the art department. I enjoy the concept of "mating for life", so to speak, having only one spouse in my lifetime.

......And, using "paw" instead of "hand" in my typing is kinda fun too. whee

Damiana Azura

What is a Furry to you? A furry to me is somebody who identifies with their animal side a little more than their human side.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? I've always lived more in my fantasies than grounded in reality. And in my mind, I've never been human. Ever since I was a kid, I acted a bit... Bestial, I guess you can say. I know I'm a human, I acknowledge I'm a human. I don't want to be human. I guess that makes me one of the crazy ones. xd

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
There are different kinds. There is no set definition to being a furry, and most furries you ask view it a different way. Some are therians, some are just avid roleplayers, some are like me and feel uncomfortable not letting their animal side out, some just connect themselves to animals. There's... A lot of different kinds.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? No. But I'd like to one day, since there's one that's not far from where I live.

Do you have a "fursona"? Mm-hm. A red-maned hyena.

What do you get out of being a furry? A sense of community and acceptance. I was pretty much a furry before I knew what one was, so I kinda felt like I had finally found people who understood me when I found the fandom. Not only that, but furries are generally fun people to be around, and I've got a lot of irreplaceable friendships out of being a fur. :3

Myspace Cultist
What is a Furry to you?
Someone who connects with a certain kind of animal moreso than they do with human, or something of the like.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
Because.... I like the art, and I've been presenting myself as an anthro online since 5th grade, so... it's kinda undeniable at this point.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
I'm just gonna narrow it down....
Creepy(the ones most people think when they hear it.)
and Innocent(like me.)

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
I was going to go to one because a lot of online friends were going, but then....
that kinda fell through.

Do you have a "fursona"?
A blue and white squirrel, yes.

What do you get out of being a furry?
Some great friends and subject material.

Luvy Huggles

#1: I like to think of Furries as being part of a fandom. I mean, you have the anime fans, you have the various music fans and such, being a furry is another fandom. It's someone who enjoys anthromorphic art or literture, based in their own little fantasy world.

#2: I consider myself a furry because ever since I was a kid, I never wrote or drew human characters. I never could. It was always animals, and I grew to find them more interesting to work with, then just using human characters. Not that I dont use humans, But Furries are something an author such as myself, finds much more intriging to use.

3: When you ask different kinda of furries, that could mean a multitude of things. I guess you could say theres levels of it. Probably the mellow furry just likes the art. or reads the stuff but never makes his own, and has no fursona. Then theres the standard furry, Someone who writes/draws it, and may or may not have a fursona. (I'm a furry writter with a fursona) Then I beleive there is the hardcore furry. This the kind that has a fursona, dresses up, goes to conventions, completely drenches their lifestyle in it. I'm somewhere in between average and hardcore. I have some subtle things that I do in reality that pertain to being a furry, but I'm sure if I'd want to go a convention or something.

4: As I said, I've never been to a convention. I dont think I would mind going, but I wont go out of my way to do it. If a convention hits nearby, maybe I'll go. For now, i'm perfectly happy being right here.

5: yes, I have a fursona 3nodding
I'm a red wolf, (offspring of a mexican grey wolf and a coyote) I actually researched the animal before choosing it as an animal to represent me.

6: Well, I like the independance. Its something I know wont grow to be this one huge fad, and everyone will do it. It'll always just be for the furries, and it'll stay a fairly stable community. The other thing is that, were always nice and helpfull to other furries. we have respect for eachother, and we hardly ever fight over anything. But most of all, it's just fun. Who HASNT thought of being an animal before? Whether it be some kid who wants to be a dinosaur, or a little girl who wants to be pony, we've all had the thought. And its fun to play it out. I'll admit some people take it a little further then it should, but as long as your responsible, its fun and harmless.

Kasaki01
What is a Furry to you?
In my personal opinion I believe that a furry is someone who adores the concept of anthrmorphic animals .

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
Well, I adore anthromorphic animals. Its not just a fan phase I going through nor is it an "obessesion" or fetish. It's a certain love I believe.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
I believe so. I believe there are those who like anthromorphic just because they do. They have a pure affinity for them. Then there are those who are just there for the porn.
I myself enjoy both products.
Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
If only. However, the arnt any in my area and I have the transportation needs to get to one. San Diego sucks somtimes sad

Do you have a "fursona"?
Yes, His name is Icuris.
He is a Red Fox with a small ammount of Grey Wolf in him. For the sake of a sort answer I'll leave it at that

What do you get out of being a furry?
Comfort that I dont get anywhere else. I feel that I am able to express all and not just some of my interest without being critisized and labled and I enjoy doing the same. Being apart of this community allows me to interact and meet people with the same big interest as me.

`Victoria

What is a Furry to you?
A furry, to me, is someone who is more animal-like than others. A furry connects better with animals, and can understand them more than others.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
I'm very cat-like. I'm graceful, balanced, and my cats are my best friends. I often lay like a cat, and I'm more into fish, meat, and dairy products than other people. One of my cats always comes to me and tells me when he wants to be loved, when he's hungry, or when he wants to fish in the fish tank. 3nodding

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
There are some different kinds of furries. There's the kind that does the art, and connects with animals, the kind that act like the animal, maybe dress like them, and enjoy the art and connect with them, and last there's the kind that people laugh at or freak out about because they practically are the animal. I'm more of the second one. I dress and act like them, and connect with them well.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
There's never been any near here. Plus, my parents wouldn't let me go. I'm only 13.

Do you have a "fursona"?
Yup. A black and white cat.

What do you get out of being a furry?
Weird looks, and, sometimes, friends.

Dr. Abominable
What is a Furry to you?
a furry is someone who empathises with animals more than people, or someone who wants to be an animal, or someone with mental animals.
Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
because i like animals more than people and i want to be one, but i know thats impossible so my only outlet is furry fandom.
Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? there are as many different kinds of furries as there are people, theres the people who want to be animals but can't, theres the people that love the art, theres the people with mental issues.. we wont go into that. theres lot of different kinds just like people.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
no, for 2 reasons, lack of opprotunity, and im not really comfortable enough with it to meet other people in person yet.
Do you have a "fursona"?
yes, a dark red bear with fox ears.
What do you get out of being a furry?
an emotional outlet. being a furry nowdays is kinda of like being gay ('cept in a nonsexual manner) a lot of people don't understand you or even hate you because they dont understand you. and you can't jsut keep it bottled up inside or it'll explode and next thing you know BAM your into vore! [/joke]

What is a Furry to you? A person who just has a deeper connection with animals, and appreciates the sort of 'free nature' that animals enjoy, I guess.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? I've always felt a bit of a connection towards animals, especially cats, and while I KNOW I'm not an animal, I just feel sort of tied with them somehow. And I mean, I like looking at furry art (although I... can't say I'm too into the weirdo porn), and sometimes I roleplay, so... yeah. sweatdrop

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? Uh, I like to think of the fandom as sort of a 'pick and choose' sort of thing. There's different aspects, and you can pick whichever you want, which makes quite a few combinations. If you like drawing anthro animals, then there you go. if you like dressing up, well, there you go. If you like both, then, hell, you can do that too! As for me, I guess I'm on the less extreme part of the fandom scale. No dressing up for me, thanks, but I guess if someone likes that part of the fandom, they can do it all they want.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? Nope... there aren't any around where I live.

Do you have a "fursona"? Pale green, split-tailed cat.

What do you get out of being a furry? I've met a lot of unique, fun people, and I've found that the furry fandom is, in general, a rather accepting, open group of people, and I know that they're not going to turn me away for trivial quirks and such. And while there are some freaks out there that say/do ridiculous, outrageous stuff in the name of the fandom, actually being a part of it all has shown me that most of them are sane, rational people, who are pretty laidback and easy to get along with. It's just a nice bunch, y'know?

EmberTiger
What is a Furry to you? A Furry is a way of life, People who choose to identify themselves with a certain animal, mine being a Tiger.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? Yes, yes I do. =^_^=

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? Umm...? If you're asking if there's different kinds of animals, yes. As for like Subgroup within a subgroup? You have Spiritual furs who Think they are connected to an animal spirit.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
I would like to, but they are too far away and I have no Ride D:

Do you have a "fursona"? Yes, A Bengal Tiger. =]

What do you get out of being a furry? I get a sense of acceptance I guess. lol. All furs realy accept one another, so there's really no discremination.

pinaligaya
What is furry to you?
When one is lycan, otherkin or shapeshifter.

Why do you consider yourself a furry?
Because i own and i am leader of my pack and i shift when nesessary.

Are there different kinds of furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
Yes there are four types of furry and i only mentioned three, the fourth is a spiritual thing called Nekolamancery(i am not so sure on the spelling), the egyptians used this method. I am otherkin and lycan.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom Conventions?
No i cant say i have or ever will. The going public thing still brings fear to my pack so for now no. If it is on gaia or any online thing, i'd attened but i wont participate in a real life one, at least until my pack concers.

Do you have a Fursona?
What the heck! Is that some silly way to ask if lycans have a higher instict base than those that are called "human"? Well if so, yes and no. When one is in human form there senses are little higher than normal, but it doesnt make a big difference until you are actually in your non-human form.

What do you get out of being a furry?
Well being furry myself, i have to protect my pack and territory from other leaders. Oh, i have perfect teeth... cant beat that. There are tons of downfalls and not so many good things i can say. I mean yeah its cool being part animal or fully animal, but you have a time limit or your human form will start looking animal like and each time you shift or transform it will be harder and harder to come back each time.

Furlock

What is a Furry to you?
In my personal opinion, a furry is someone who is in touch with a side of themselves that many people have forgotten. It is a state of being. If I were to sum it up, I would say "Someone who sees who they are as an anthropomorphic animal."

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
Interesting question...I suppose that I consider myself a furry because I'm a misanthrope, or someone who distrusts or dislikes humanity. That, and I've always felt closer to animals than humans.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
Oh my yes! While there are countless different branches, the kinds I've encountered the most of are thus:
"Normal" Furries
Babyfurs
Caretakers ( a integral component for any babyfur)
"Yiffy" Furries (those who use the vision of themselves for the sole purpose of having sexual intercourse, also the most commonly displayed by the media, as it is one of the darker sides to the community)

As for what category I fall under, I am (for the most part) a "normal" furry. However, as a method of stress-relief, I tend to become a babyfur. Though there are many out there who would draw connections between this and *****, there are no such connections. Granted, with as many people in to our culture as there are, there are bound to be some who are *****, but this is not true for the culture as a whole.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
As of yet, I have not. However, I do plan to attend them once I am able.

Do you have a "fursona"?
Of course! Most (if not all) furries have a fursona. As I said before, it is simply one's vision of who they are. As for a fictitious fursona, that is even more common. This can include fantasy jobs, powers, and the like.

As for my fursona, it is a blend of both realms. I see myself as a black wolf with crimson hair and eyes, an inverted pentagram scarred onto my chest, and having the powers of necromancy and telekinesis. The personality, gender, and all others are the same as my own in real life. I'm a heterosexual male. That's always a shocker to people, as they almost always seem to expect something hideous and kinky. It just goes to show how strongly influenced people are by media.

What do you get out of being a furry?
It's mostly a sense of comfort, I guess. I've never really thought about what I can get out of being a furry, as that isn't what it's about to me. It's just being different, and difference scares people. It is a foolish instinct. People should embrace difference, as it is the only way to move forward.

In closing, I'd just like to say that just because people say that we are "crazy", "disgusting", or my personal favorite stereotype, "faggots", this does not make it so. While there are those who do fit the category, the rest of us don't like being typecast. We may think we're better than you, but in truth, everyone's the same in that we are all made of flesh, are human, whether we like it or not, and until science says otherwise, always will be.

[ Inverted Jeebus ]

What is a Furry to you?
Everyone has their own definition of what 'furry' is. I personally see it as a person with a deep love for animals, in addition to a greater understanding of them than the average person. They generally enjoy anthropomorphic art (it can be erotic or it can be tame), and will usually have a 'fursona' -- an animalistic representation of themselves. To briefly explain therians, I believe that it is almost like having a fragment of an animal's soul within your own. You have a deeper, spiritual connection with your 'personal animal', so to speak.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
I have always considered myself to have a soft spot for animals, ever since I was a child. I can honestly say that seeing an animal being hurt pains me more that seeing a human get hurt; harsh as that may sound. I have always enjoyed anthro art, and in the past year or so have started drawing it. I've been drawing since I could pick up a pencil; anthro art was simply a new step art-wise for me.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
There are two extremes on the spectrum: those who enjoy participating in the fandom lightly, perhaps looking at and purchasing anthropomorphic artwork; then there are the overly obsessed, or the ones who truly seem to think that they are an animal. Plushophiles, zoophiles, and those with a fetish for bestiality can be (but are not neccessarily) furry. These three aforementioned paraphenalia can be either separate or integrated within the furry fandom. I have to say that I am somewhere in the middle; I occasionally refer to my hands as paws (in the proper company, of course), but I generally prefer to just look over the art and contribute to the fandom by drawing my own artwork.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
I haven't had a chance yet, since I am still in school and will have to figure out living arrangements out of home soon. I am hoping to go to Anthrocon at some point in my life.

Do you have a "fursona"?
I do. She is a brown raccoon with turquoise markings; short in stature and can vary between being drawn anthropomorphically or in a feral sense. I feel a connection with raccoons for a number of reasons -- I have a habit of being easily distracted by shiny objects, I understand the nature of masks, and I happen to be a bit of a prankster at times. (There is a site that talks about the nature of different animals and how you can relate to them.)

What do you get out of being a furry?
Being able to spend time with a far more open-minded group of people. Furries generally tend to be extremely accepting of anything that people are interested in, and it's easier to talk about a lot of things. I admit that there are people who are against furries, but this is why I hang out with furs as well as normal people. I like a nice mix of both to hang out with, but the point is; furry is somewhat of a fetish, and thus I do not need to broadcast it to the general public. There are plenty of my friends who do not know that I am furry.

La Li Lu Le Lo
What is a Furry to you? To me, someone who likes anthropomorphic characters. It's kind of "Furry Lite", but, whatever.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? That same "Strong connection to animals" shite that everyone else says. Plus, I was in love with Werewolves since I was a kid, so it kind of seemed like a natural transition. It doesn't make me a zoophile, and it doesn't make me some introverted, socially inept freak.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? Yeah, there are different kinds of furries, I think. Those that are in it just for the porn, those that have fursonas, those that just like anthropomorphs... Therians, all that crap.

I kind of alternate between just liking anthropomorphs and starting to make a Fursona. But, I can't do any of that crap like "Feel a tail", or whatever. That seems a bit much, to me.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? Nope. 'Course, I also don't participate in actor conventions, or writer conventions, or "Long-haired-jesus-lookalike" conventions.

Do you have a "fursona"? Not really. I have a lot of characters in stories of mine that are furres, though. Dunno if they count as fursonas, however. Besides that, I really DO hate the word "Fursona".

What do you get out of being a furry? Heh. Not too much, really. I get some interesting ideas for characters in stories, and the occassional AWESOME character picture.

Other than that, really not too much. Hell, what do people get out of liking Naruto except for a retarded headband and annoying catchphrase?

To me, it's just a fandom and a way to make some interesting characters for stories. That's it.

Coyote-Walker
What is a Furry to you?

Well I'm part of a furry and guild and I've been a furry since I was young...the one thing I've noticed about them is they're very welcoming, understanding, and affectionate. They're not afraid to reach out and give you a hug, or cuddle. Most people who arn't furries, I've noticed (and I'm sorry if I'm lumping people into a group here) arn't interested in simply cuddling for no other reason then to feel the closeness of a person. A lot of people think it's about sex, and walking around in fursuits, but it's not. We feel a closeness to animals, and each other. We feel closer to our animal side.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?

I guess it's just because of how close I've always felt to animals. I've always admired them and wanted to be more like them. I don't go around in real life wearing paws and such, but occasionally I'll wear a tail and I do make cat sounds and such (naturally) when surprised or somthing.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?

I'd say it depends on what you mean. There are some furs that are more interested in the sexual part of it, but you get that with everyone and everything so...

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?

Not really, there's never any around and I don't know (honestly) how bold I could be in public. sweatdrop

Do you have a "fursona"?

Yes, she's a chipmunk/squirrel mix, but I personally feel closer to the coyotes so I might change her soon...or something.

What do you get out of being a furry?

I dunno. I know I always feel more comfortable chatting or hanging out with other furs. *shrug* Everyone has a safe spot.

What is a Furry to you?
Anthro Animals. Humans with animal characterisicts, or animals with human characteristicts. It can be many things as long as that's the main idea; Anthro

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
I tend to keep it mostly hush hush myself, but I guess I just feel that way. I have an incredible understanding of animals, and some even call it a connection. I've been known to get up close to animals who wouldn't allow anyone else near them or anything. I think all you really need to "Be" a furry is just say you are, and have -some- liking for animals.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
Of course, and too many to mention. I think I'dd just be part of the furry fandom -and- therian thing. wink I'm open to almost everything.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
I plan to!

Do you have a "fursona"?
Of course! a few, even. Alley Cat Elizabeth would be my main (Also known as A.C.E.), but Sakura Tama (as seen on my deviant Art page), would be my most favorit. I just love that crazy girl. mrgreen Sakura is more of a roleplay character, but after using her on Furcadia for over two years now, you tend to get attached to your characters...

What do you get out of being a furry?
Fun, freedom, and just being me! I like it!

Fox Lightstep

point-of-view. I support you 3nodding

What is a Furry to you?
Animals that have 'come to life' in the human world; not just as pets but as humanoids or their small furry selves.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
I don't know how many RP characters I've created but I can say that it was a very large number and that only about 2 of them are not furry.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
One would be humanoid and the other would be much like (example) Tod or Copper from Disney's Fox and the Hound. All of my characters would have to be the Humanoid

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
Unfortunately not. I don't know when they take place.

Do you have a "fursona"?
Oh yeah. Irronically it's a silver fox xd and the other is a half-wolf

What do you get out of being a furry?
More ideas to draw 3nodding

..Seriously...

Laustere
What is a Furry to you?

To me, a Furry (or furre) is a human who identifies more with the social patterns of animals than with the social patterns of humans.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?

I appreciate that the animal world is quite a bit less ******** than ours. At the same time, if I were to turn into an animal I would like to preserve my human intelligence. Furres seem to be a dandy combination of the two, and most people I know who consider themselves furres tend to be more open-minded and empathetic than non-furres.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?

Oh, definately. It's not really a different "kinds" type of thing, it's more like a spectrum of how human you consider youself to be compared to how animal you consider yourself to be. Factored into that is how ******** up you are, to be frank. For instance, I have a casual interest in the subculture, but by no means am I a creepy-a** ******** rapist of household pets.

PS MOST FURRES LOOK DOWN ON REAL-LIFE BESTIALITY JUST AS MUCH AS YOU DO KTHX.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?

I'd like to. People are nice.

Do you have a "fursona"?

Mmhmm. Black rabbit, brown spots with a green fauxhawk.

What do you get out of being a furry?

Fun times with nice people.

What is a Furry to you? As I have said to other people many times before, the most basic thing that would make one a furry is love and respect for animals. Though, just having this trait does not make you a furry (that would encompass WAYYYY too many people... not everyone that works at the Humane Society is a furry!). I guess you need to have a deeper connection with animals, and be able to see an animal (or the traits thereof) in yourself. If you meet someone that claims to enjoy having sex with and/or molesting animals, they're not a furry, no matter how much they protest that they are. They are merely a t**t. :3

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? I love and respect animals. I draw anthropomorphic art. I relate to animals. I remember when I was a kid I used to pretend I was an animal. xd I've since grown out of that and realized that the only reason I thought I wanted to be an animal was because I liked them so much. Only kids can get away with taking it that far, in my eyes. :3

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? Of course. It would be pretty damn boring if we were all the same. Here are just a few of the different kinds I have noticed:
-Fan They view the fandom from afar. They may not draw it or participate actively in the community, but they do appreciate it and maybe role-play as anthropomorphic characters.
-Anthro Artist This person just draws anthro art, and they probably have a character of their own. They don't necessarily go to conventions or dress in a fursuit or anything like that. Note that not all anthro artists consider themselves to be a furry.
-Anthro Artist +PLUS+ Draws anthro art, has a character, attends conventions, and considers themselves to be a furry.
--Median- I don't know a real name for this section, but there are people who fit here. This is someone who is between an anthro artist + and a therian. They feel a deeper connection with their character than the previous category, but it's not to the point that they really feel they are that animal or ought to be that animal.
-Therian I don't know much about therians, but I know they treat being a furry (though many therians dislike this term because it lumps them with a stereotype that is floating around) like a sort of theology. It's like a religion to them, and they feel a DEEP connection with their character/animal (some refer to it as their "spirit animal," but that's not something I see as being very common).

These do not encompass EVERYONE, but I imagine this helps to define some people.

AND REMEMBER, KIDS: Furries DON'T molest animals. FREAKS DO.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? I was GOING TO, but then I had tests to take in school that conflicted with the convention dates. BUT, now that I have a more flexible schedule, I will hopefully be able to attend some cons locally (though I am now far too poor to travel ;3).

Do you have a "fursona"? Yes. Something I created a number of years ago... a Monkeycat. Yeah, I know it's kind of a cop-out to have a hybrid character, but I didn't think that just having one or the other truly fit me, it had to be both. >w< Anyways, to see some pictures of the monkeycat, go ahead and check out my gallery. IT'S CHOCK FULL OF 'EM. And let me make it clear that I do not think that I AM a monkeycat or that I was MEANT TO BE ONE, it's just a reflection of my personality.

What do you get out of being a furry? Friends. Enjoyment. Understanding. Inspiration. Community. AND MORE.

OH, and if you're okay with linking to things with *FOUL LANGUAGE* on your front page, this comic that I made MOST DEFINITELY reflects my opinion on the FURRIES VS. ANIMAL MOLESTERS debate ;3.

I wish I was Futanari

What is a Furry to you?

A furry is a general slang used to describe any anthropormorphic animal. Now, "Real" furries as some people like to call themselves tend to have a fetish for costumes and like to dress up, believing that they are actually animals, and not human beings.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?

No. The furry fandom has grown so large and so... repulsing I don't ever want to consider myself one of "them".

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?

Well, that all depends. You could say there's the "Furries" who like to dress up, and then the "Furries" who don't like to dress up, followed by the "Furries" who don't call themselves furries and just roleplay.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?

I don't go to conventions, and a Furry Con would be rather disgusting to me.

Do you have a "fursona"?

No, I have a roleplay character who is a fur, AKA an Anthropormorphic Collie. "Fursona" is a made-up word that people use to make themselves seem less human.

What do you get out of being a furry?

Riticule. Most "humans" don't approve of what a fur is, what they do, and the like. I don't call myself a fur any more because of how bad things have gotten with the fandom.

What is a Furry to you?
A furry to me, is someone who never quite felt comfortable in their own skin. But by seeing animals, the way they act, began to understand that perhaps, they weren't quite human themselves.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
Because I feel better in my ears and my tail. I've never really understood why until I began to read about the furry fandom.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
I believe there are a few kinds of furries.

There's the "Tame" furries; ones that browse the art, perhaps drawing a few pictures, but all in all, not really a huge part of the fandom. Have normal jobs, etc.

There's the "Real life" furries; Ones that have a job, normal human life, but draw the pictures constantly, go to conventions occasionally, wear parts of the fursona, have a fursona, may have a fursuit, etc. I fall into this category.

Then there's the "Hardcore" furs; ones that thier lives revolve around the fandom, their houses decked out, the EXTREME fur.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
If I can get the time off, and it's still happening, I want to go to the Arizona con this year. But if not, I'm going to see.

Do you have a "fursona"?
Yes, a blue and white skunk/cat. She's in my signature. I've always felt that I'm very feline, but I'm more skunkish. I protect what's mine, I seem pretty calm unless you really anger me, then I will attack in the only way I know how.... Disgusting you. hehe.

What do you get out of being a furry?
I've gotten a better sense of self. I feel more like myself, now that I truly know what I am. I've gotten some good friends, and I've gotten some close-minded individuals that treat me like crap. But, I'm not too bitter. People have to know themselves before they can judge others.

Intuicide
What is a Furry to you?
A furry can range from what I like to call a "closet fur" who is simply into anthropomorphic art (and may be ashamed to tell anyone), to the stereotypical fanatics in fursuits that draw rainbow gorillas with eight penises raping a hermaphroditic pink and yellow orca whale. Personally, I'm one of the "closet furs," only without the shame. And also personally, I think the fanatics are ... kinda creepy.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
As I said before, I'm really into the art. I've loved animals my whole life. Since I was four or five, I have been talking about being an animal doctor (because I can't spell vetrenarian... veteranarian... vet).

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
I seem to have also answered this in number one.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
I'd like to eventually attend a furry con, maybe meet a couple of my favorite artists... but in the meantime, I'm 17 years old (and eternally grounded for problems with homework and grades), and if my parents knew I was into that kind of thing, they'd flip a s**t.

Do you have a "fursona"?
Yes, I do. Julian Sankt is basically an anthro form of a Budweiser Clydesdale. Hooray for horses!

What do you get out of being a furry?
I... couldn't really tell you. I guess it's just amusing to imagine myself being a horse. (Mind you, I do not deny in any way my being human. It's just fun to imagine.)

Penny Nickels

What is a Furry to you? Someone who likes and respects all animals and not just humans.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? Well, teachnically I AM furry, seeing how I don't shave my legs. But sometimes I think I might be more of a feathery; I like dogs. Dogs are gorgeous creatures with rather attractive figures and I dream of becoming a duck. One day, I hope there will be away for me to become the duck that I want to become oh-so-badly. Also, I smooch my ferret and my sister's dog (on the lips, I don't use tongue but they do, I can't help it, srsly talk2hand ). I also snuggle up with my two cats when I go to sleep and our older cat licks me clean. lol

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? I think that there is only one true kind of furry and that would be the kind who loves animals just like they would a human. Some people mistake furries for animal rapists, but a real furry would never hurt an animal or do anything against its will.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? No, I've never come across one.

Do you have a "fursona"? A what?

What do you get out of being a furry? Love.

midgetrat

What is a Furry to you? A Fur (Furry if you prefer) is a HUMAN who...
a) enjoys anthropomorphic art
b) likes/loves animals
c) perhaps enjoys dressing in Fursuits in public (whether the suit is of their own Fursona or not)

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? I myself belong to the above 'definition' of Fur: I enjoy drawing anthropomorphic people, (erect wolves, cats, and the like) I have grown up with dogs of all sorts: my mother and I both work as dog groomers at a kennel, we share the love of all kinds of animals, and I have wandered around in public on the balls of my feet, with tails and ears and paw gloves.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? There can be some scary Furs out there. They're the 'hardcore' Furs who think they ARE animals. I myself am on the less severe end of the spectrum, and many people will argue that I am not a Fur at all...just a wierd person who draws wolf people.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? I have never been to any convention of any kind. I am quite ashamed of this.

Do you have a "fursona"? A white tiger, a wolf, and a fennec fox.

What do you get out of being a furry? I was introduced into the Fur world by my dear friend. She herself has multiple Fursonas and has been to a few Furry Fandom conventions. She is a 'hardcore' Fur and she is not afraid to admit it. Whenever our conversation turns Furry, I always enjoy hearing her share her experiences as her Fursona.

...sometimes I wonder if I even fit into the Furry crowd.

Kyrosiris
What is a Furry to you? To me? It's a way to describe feelings and personality traits that I've had all my life. It's a title that I can wear (though I've been shying away from it lately, given some of the idiocy that the Fandom encompases) to explain and rationalize some of my personality traits, some of my attractions (both sexual and platonic) and some of my life decisions.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? It's basically a way that I've used to explain myself to myself. A lot of my personality traits are feline in nature - I'm naturally inquisitive, I have amazing balance, and so forth - and I use the idea (not that I actually believe that I'm an animal, but you get what I mean) that I'm somewhat feline to justify and explain the personality and physical traits that I've never locked down to any one reason of being.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? Yes, there are. It's less "types", per se, than it is a spectrum of involvement in the furry subculture. Just as you have different degrees of commitment to anything, so too do you have different degrees of furriness. I, myself, will be the first to admit that, yes, I am attracted to anthros. However, it's not so much the animal aspect as it is an appreciation of a female form - it's still human at its base, but it incoroprates other aspects. On the further end of the spectrum, you have the people that are commonly dramatized and portrayed on TV and whatnot, and while I'd love to say they're the minority, nowadays I'm becoming less and less sure of that. It's just a spectrum, like anything is. Not all gays have gay pride parades, and not all furries ******** others in fursuits. Get it?

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? I might, but with college, work, and my life, I just don't have the damned TIME to go to one. XD

Do you have a "fursona"? Yes, in a way, but he's less an actual seperate identity as he is the actual "furry" side of myself. He's more or less what you see in my avatar - an orange furred feline.

What do you get out of being a furry? Well, I get a sense of self-identity, first off. I also get a community to associate with, for better or for worse. Finally, I get a never-ending source of conflict to ever hone my debate skills with. There will always be people who hate those that call themselves furry, regardless of how furry they may be, so there's always a place and a time for me to engage in verbal parlay and better my arguing skills. smile

Lady Shibella
What is a Furry to you? A furry to me, is exactly what others have said. It's being connected to animals on a higher level than others. You don't have to believe your an animal in reality to be able to call yourself a 'furry'. Not all are in it for the fetish either. -.-; I'm so tired of people calling it sick, when really they don't even care to acknowledge the people who're interested in it, as anything other than sick and twisted. A furry could just be someone who likes animals, or enjoys making up characters that have animalistic aspects.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry? I consider myself a furry because I just love animals. As a child I'd often dream of being one. And at one point in my younger years, even believed I was one. But who doesn't dream of being something they're not when they're little? I was very connected with nature, and still am. I dream of freedom, and being surrounded by wildlife. Where there are no city's filled with crime, pollution, rules, and everyday stress and worries. A place where you don't have to pay out of your a** to survive. You can just lay back and enjoy life. When I was younger I spent a lot of time in the woods, making tree forts and just pretending that the world outside didn't exist, and that I was an animal, free of humanities f'ed up existence. If I'm shunned from the internet for loving nature and envying animals, then so be it. The internet doesn't hold much value to me anyways. So what should I care what people think of me for having different interests and views then they have? It's just another reason people have to judge others, instead of just accepting people for who they are.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? Yes, there are many kinds. Some people just have a fetish of it. Others actually believe with all of their being, that they are an animal. Some even have gone so far as to tell their parents. :/ Which I find odd.. It is an interest for me. The lifestyle aspect is more of a connection to nature and a love and respect for animals.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
No, I don't. And I think I'd be scared to, honestly. I wouldn't know exactly how to interact with someone in a fursuit. I'd probably go if there was one nearby, but only to meet people with the same interests.

Do you have a "fursona"? I do. ^_^ A rat/river dragon hybrid. She has dark gray fur, with glowing light blue tribal-like markings. Rainbow eyes, and a large obsession with glowsticks.

What do you get out of being a furry? I find it fun, to be able to connect to my animalistic side on a higher level, and interact with those who are the same. I love drawing it, and have actually learned a lot about anatomy and animals by doing so (By drawing it I mean). I've also gained a lot more respect for animals. And even decided to become a vegetarian and a member of PETA. I just love animals. It's not like I see them as humans or anything.. though I respect them more for not being human. Animals are innocent and we(as in humans) are just using them and driving them to extinction. I think all of us have a little bit of animal instincts inside. It gives us that drive to sometimes want to escape the chains of society, to a place that's wild, free, and untamed. It gives us the strength to push further, the will to survive. Some of us just have it more than others, and are able to embrace it. :]

What is a Furry to you?
To me a furry is somebody who connects better with animals then with other people. Or someone who acts like an animal.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
Ever since I was young I have always wanted to be an animal. No, I didn't hate being human I just wanted to be an animal more. ^^

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
There are probably many diffrent types of Furries out there.
1 There are those who are just in it for the porn, art, or writings.
2 Then there are those who want to be an animal they tend to draw, roleplay, or write about animals more then humans. Some might even let out animal soundsl (naturally) when surprised, frightened, or angry.
3 Then there are those who kind of act like number two but want to help and save animals more. Some even tend to get more emotional over an animal dying then a human dying. Some even tend to dress like animals.
4 Finally the ones who think they are an animal. I can't really say much about them because I have never meant one.

I'm a mixture of two and three.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
I wish I could but there are none around here. I also don't have a ride crying

Do you have a "fursona"?
Yes I have two. My first one is a cat her name is Appleclaw ((got the name from from worriors XD)) and she is a reddish-brown shecat with icy-blue eyes and her left eye missing. My second one is a human with short black hair, black cat ears and tail and whiskers her name is maple.

What do you get out of being a furry?
Happiness. I'm the only furry I know of at my school so I really don't meet any friends there. However, on the internet I can be part of an open minded community. Also, I learn to understand people more witch has always been a real problem for me.

What is a Furry to you?
To me, a furry is someone who feels a connection to certain animals. People who have "furry" feelings tend to understand animals better than other, regular humans. Furry's tend to be more affectionate as well.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
I consider myself a Furry because of feelings I get when I see animals. But there are certain animals I feel connections moreover other animals. I've always felt deeply connected to cats, wolves, and birds of prey. However, certain animals will not let me come near them, like squirrels and birds. Even if they are squirrels who will stand in the path of others, they scurry away when I aproach, Is this coincidence? Maybe, but I think it is the furry connection I have towards those three predators.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
There are so many kinds of Furry's that I'm not sure if it is possible to cover them all. A couple would be: those who like to draw or possibly write about anthros, or those who feel spiritual connections, like me.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
If I could, I would.

Do you have a "fursona"?
She is a black cat with deep sapphire blue eyes and golden feathered wings.

What do you get out of being a furry?
Because of my affinity towards affection with friends, which is common among furry's, it makes me feel warmer.
I can usually tell if someone is a furry or not. Even if they do not know they are a furry, I can still tell. I suspect my best friend is a furry because of her extreme love of cats.

What is a Furry to you?
My immediate response is someone with a fursona, although I am aware this is not an accurate description, it's what comes immediately to my mind.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
I think the major give away would be the 2gb of Yiff I have hiddedn on my hard drive. sweatdrop

Seriously though, ever since I was tiny I played pretend that I was a furry, even though i didn't know what that was. First one was a monkeybird from Pirates Of Dark Water, and it's continued on through my whole life.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you? I really don't know how to answer this. redface

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions? No, there are none anywhere remotely near where I live.

Do you have a "fursona"?
Two. One, Kanaeda or Kan for short, which has become my mainly used fursona over the years, a grey wolf anthro, and Ra'Sona, who is my primary Fursona, a black arab horse anthro.

What do you get out of being a furry?
It's not so much that I get anything out of it, it's just who i am, I've been a furry for longer than my memory serves to recall.

P ! K A C H O O

What is a Furry to you?
A furry to me is someone who has a special connection to animals.
Someone who understand them and can generally understand what they are thinking.
I don't beleive they are people who are part animal in spirit or physically..
But I beleive their spirit connects, relates, and is a lot like an animals.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?
Because I have a special connection to all my pets, I love animals, I just feel a connection towards them. I know I'm human, but I'd rather be an animal. I understand my pets. I enjoy drawing furries, and in roleplaying I always am one. I would much rather be an animal in any situation because I feel I can express myself better if I was.

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?
I think you can belong to more than one group. First off, there's a fan. Someone who really likes animals and thinks they are a furry once they hear of one.
I think there's ones that just want ot be one so bad they feel they are one, but I don't think those really are furries.
Then there's the ones like me that just are a furry from heart, and fit the descirption of a furry I said earlier.
So there's the creepy ones, and my kind.

Do you participate in Furry Fandom conventions?
No, I'd like to, but my parents wouldn't let me. I'm only 13. Plus I don't think they like furries. D:

Do you have a "fursona"?
Yes. A panda/cat.

What do you get out of being a furry?
No one around here know what a furry really is, but they always bring small animals they don't want to me. I do get weird looks for always wanting to be an animal, some people even think I'm crazy. But some people seem to understand me. I guess I just get a little mroe friends here, but a little less friends there. Oh, and free pets.

What is a Furry to you?

A Furrie to me, is a person who is a part of a specific sub-culture, and holds a fascination with anthromorphic beings/anthromorphic art. A Furrie not only holds such a fascination but engages in one way or another with various things within the Furrie Sub-culture.

Why do you consider yourself a Furry?

Why do I consider myself a furrie? I am a furrie in the sense that I do ingage in various aspects of the fandom. I do hang out with furries both online and offline. I do hold a fascination of anthromorphic animals in both art and literature. I do write stories involving anthromorhpic characters. I also craft animal related costume parts, but usually for other people. I also enjoying looking at art made by furries for furries, but only when it is G rated(or sometimes PG-13).

Are there different kinds of Furries? If so, what are they? Which one are you?

There are many different kinds of furries out there. Every furrie has a Fursona and what they do with that fursona, and what

Has ayone seen the hair growth formula?

Seriously folks, human's aren't meant to be furry, otherwise they be born a whole new species. It the different hair apects I tell yer.

Humans as 'furries' wind up looking like chimps or gorillas....all you've to do is refer to hairy guy or gal out there. xp
