Okay, have any of you guys heard of dc Talk? They have a song called "What If I Stumble." Before the song actually begins, a man says this:

"The greatest single cause of Athiesm in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."

It saddens me to realize this is true. I see it all the time, where people say, "Yeah, I go to church so I'm a Christian," then they sin and don't try to stop. (Yes, I realize no one is perfect, but the goal of Christians should be to try not to sin.) It's behavior like this that turns off skeptics.

Comments anyone?
Or, rather than changing their beliefs based on the actions of others.... atheists just, you know, don't believe in deities.
I'm atheist, and the actions of other Christians had no effect on my leaving Christianity. It's what I found in the bible, and some good, hardcore logic from Dawkins that made me atheist.
You have a point, that's part of the reason why I'm an atheist. But there are other factors involved too.. the Bible, personal beliefs..

Did you go straight from Christianity to Atheism?
It's true that there are probably other reasons for people turning Athiest, but I imagine that seeing "Christians" who's lives have been unchanged is part of it.

I disagree. There are other religions and other Gods beyond the Christian faith. It makes no sense to stop believing in the possibility of ANY deity simply because some of the followers on ONE deity are asshats.
Hmm...true.
I understand what you are saying, there are many people who consider themselves Christians, but after Sunday morning and Sunday night, they act very different.
I know some that go right after Sunday morning and then go drink at the local bar, but that is just some Christians.
You might not realize it, but you're saying Christians as a whole. Not all Christians can influence people in negative ways.
Some Christians don't act like that, some live the part.
I know if someone was drinking right after they got back from church on Sunday, I wouldn't want what they supposedly had.

It's understandable, though; since when did people make sense?
The behaviour of many "Christians" is one of the reason why I'm not a Christian. The reasons why I'm an atheist is completely different.
just to point out it relly dosent have any thing to do with athisum, the athist part is just a shocker, and give it a point
I think that it may be why some Christians become Atheists. I don't believe that that's why a Jew would become Atheist, or a Wiccan would become an Atheist, or a Baha'i would become an athiest.

I think there are many bigger reasons why a Christ would become an Atheist. A big reason for atheism among Christians can be that after reading the bible, they discover that Jesus did not fulfill the Prophesy. They may have a hard time understanding the fact that the Messiah is not God, yet people call Jesus the Christ And God. There are many inconsistancies with in the Christian religion.

Also, some Christians may becoming Atheists because they belong to a sect of Christianity that they do not agree with, yet they never research other sects of Christianity, OR another religion that would better suit themselves.

This should be completely true of all people. How does what one religion's people practice make god not exist? If some people in the Cristian faith go against their principals why does that make other people in possibly different religions decide that there is no god? it doesn't make sense. also just because a person does not go to a church of some kind does not make them an athiest. for Cristians, if other people in your church do bad stuff why does that make god not exist?
sorry for questions and repitions
When it comes to secular Philosophy, Dawkins fails most of the time. He is a biologist, not a philosopher; although, we can thank him for coining the term 'meme'. That's his greatest accomplishment, imho.
