Long fingers tangled in bright red hair gripped it as Valeria opened her eyes slowly, moving her other hand to shield her eyes from the burning sun. Emerald eyes were revealed as she sat up in the back of a car. Stretching gently, she curled back up in the back seat and looked about. A fair woman sat in the drivers side of the car, she sat tall in the front, bright sea eyes stared out into the parkway, a weak breeze sent her platinum locks away from the sharp cheeks of the woman. She almost looks human from this angle, Valeria thought, eyes still adjusting to the ball of light rather high in the sky for the afternoon. Adjusting herself so she sat upright, Valeria turned away from her mother's figure in the sunlight to the scenery rushing by as they drove past unfamiliar houses and streets. It had been a long time since she'd been to London, so long that it felt like centuries since she'd seen the golden bricks towering over her. Smiling softly, Valeria unbuckled her seatbelt and grabbed her knapsack, ready to leap out and finally be free of the warden that kept her all summer.

"Get out," her mother's voice commanded as soon as the car stopped. The blonde didn't even turn her head in an attempt to see her young daughter off. Valeria didn't react, merely jumped out, never needing her mother's harsh encouragement. Slinging her bag on her shoulders, she went straight to the back and opened the trunk door, grabbing a large, old brown trunk that immediately fell to the ground due to the weight of it's contents. Ignoring the loud thud the old thing caused, Valeria grabbed a silver cage that contained a tall creature staring up at Val with honey stirring in it's warm eyes surrounded by chocolate feathers, it let out a rather loud screech making Valeria jump. She looked up to see her mother's daunting gaze in the rear-view window. Slamming the trunk shut, she gathered the large owl and her trunk and started to walk off. Before she even grabbed the trunk, the red car she had once sat in had already taken off. "b***h," Valeria murmured, rolling her eyes as she dragged the trunk behind her, too heavy for her to carry herself.

When entering the crisp new station, Valeria felt like a different person. As soon as she entered that station, she knew a new world awaited her. Sauntering in, Val went straight to the carts, she needed to get the weight of the trunk off of her shoulders, it hurt just to drag the thing... Setting her owl down gently on the floor and slipping her bag off of her shoulders, Val heaved the trunk up, off the floor and into the cart. Letting out a long breath, Val stretched a bit. No one really cared that there was a girl walking about with heavy objects and an owl of all things. She guessed that people stopped questioning it a long time ago because everyone passed her as if she was just another person in King's Cross. Of course, today, she was 'just another person', because as she looked about a little more she saw the young faces of the students of Hogwarts. This day every year children with owls, cats, and toads wearing peculiar clothing and carrying trunks just as heavy as her own wandered in and weren't seen until the schools in the Muggle world let out for summer break. Muggles, such oblivious creatures, Valeria giggled, looking out over the sea of people walking past her. Valeria was anything but Muggle, she didn't even have Muggle blood running through her veins. Turning away from those walking around, she moved the cage from the floor to her cart. Slipping her knapsack back around her shoulders, Valeria started pushing the cart. When making it to platforms 9 and 10, she smiled at a wall, a simple brick wall that would lead her to her destination. She noticed First years a little nervous about entering through the portal, after all it was a wall. "Here," Valeria smiled, walking over to them and standing tall. She'd done this so many times that it was almost as simple as taking the Floo Network. "Let me show you." Turning her body towards the red brick wall. She grinned at the wall and waited for people to clear out so she could get ready. Starting off rather slowly, Valeria quickly picked up speed so she could break through the barrier. All the sudden she was no longer in the modern halls of King's Cross, but in the older, aged Platform 9¾, the bright red Hogwarts Express train sitting still, still looking as new as ever.

Smiling brightly, Valeria finally felt at home. She would no longer let the memories of her small confinements, and could now think of everything...everything impossible. Wandering on into the crowd of students and parents, Valeria hurried over to the drop off area, she was tired of carrying around her heavy things already, and she knew that she was leaving her things in good hands. Smiling to the man that stood along to help with dragging the things inside. She took the silver cage from atop the trunk and nodded to the man, always knowing to be kind to those who were there. Drifting away from the luggage, Valeria hopped onto the train, not wanting to waste time talking to others while she could be catching up on sleep.

Moving into a lone carriage, Valeria set her owl's cage down, and settled into the squishy red seats that reminded her so much of the Gryffindor common room. Thinking of the common room, she started twirling a steel ring around her middle finger, on that ring was the crest of Gryffindor, a lion with it's front paws in the air, with the house name engraved on the back. No one questioned it, everyone just knew it was from her school, but they never looked into it. It wouldn't make a difference if they had or not, they wouldn't find anything. She looked down at the ring and closed her eyes, knowing that she may not sleep at all, nightmares sometimes carried on into the mornings, either way she was going to try until someone maybe came and spoke to her.

                                                                                σσ¢ :: - - - -

- 5th year Ravenclaw - curious - easily embarrassed - loyal -

Another year, another train ride. Olivia had been completely mystified by the Hogwarts Express upon seeing it for the first time. Well, she had been mystified by just about everything at Hogwarts during her first year. Now, the cherry red engine was more comforting than mysterious to her; it seemed as if it had always been there waiting to bring students back and forth to school and she hoped it always would. With her father in tow, Olivia guided her trolley through the massive crowd at King’s Cross, navigating her way toward the barrier that actually led to Platform 9 ¾. Smiling at her dad before she made her way through, she paused a moment once on the other side, waiting for him to follow suit. It was funny to think she had done this for five years now, practicing the same routine every time, but at least she didn’t close her eyes and brace herself for impact like she had done until just last year. Subtly shaking her head, Olivia mused over how silly she had been.

Her first priority was to free herself from her luggage, so she and her father went to hand off her trolley to the people who took care of the students’ trunks and suitcases. Afterward, Olivia only had a while before she had to board the train, but she could spare a few moments with her dad before she was sent off for another year. “You study extra hard this year,” her father started, his smile practically reaching ear to ear. “I want to see you get twenty Os this time around.” Olivia laughed and gave him a sympathetic look for the poor joke. “Dad, you know very well I’m only taking nine classes.” He responded with a laugh, Nine? I don’t think I ever loved school as much as you do.” Olivia cast her eyes down but her mouth formed a shy smile. When she was younger she certainly had – loved school that is. She still did, but as she grew older she had realized that preferring to read textbooks over attending parties or playing Quidditch wasn’t quite as “cool” as she thought it was. “Yeah, I don’t think anyone does,” she said, looking back up at her father. He returned the statement with a heartfelt hug. He hadn’t known the details of her current dilemma, but he could probably guess that she wasn’t feeling quite 100%.

“I love you,” he said, before letting go to hold her shoulders at arms length. Olivia appreciated that he cared so much, but still felt sorry that he couldn’t do anything to help. “I love you too.” As he kissed her on the forehead, she could feel the bristly hairs of his moustache tickle her skin, making her laugh like a little girl. “Be good,” he said, finally letting her go. Olivia made sure her book bag was steady on her shoulders and turned toward the entrance to the nearest bright red car. “I always am,” she returned, and wished her father farewell with one last smile. “Bye, dad.” “Goodbye, Olivia,” he said just before she turned to leave. For the first time, she felt a little guilty; her father always told her to behave well every year before she left for school, and she had always obeyed, unquestioning. Truth be told, Olivia didn’t know if she could handle being a perfect little angel anymore. Lost in her thoughts, Olivia realized she should start looking for a compartment to seat herself in, and started looking for any of her friends – she certainly wasn’t interested in spending the whole trip alone with complete strangers.

"Why can't you go to school in Whitby?"
"I have to go to this special school."
"But why? If you went to school in Whitby you could live with us!"
"I don't think my mother would let me."
                                      "Why?"
                                      "Because."
                                      "Because why?"

Leo glanced at his father in a silent plea for help. He had spent the last week of the summer before leaving for Hogwarts with Peter Dawson, the Muggle man that had sired him, and his half-sister Katelyn, also a Muggle. They had brought him to London, to King's Cross, so that he could board the Hogwarts Express for his final year. He had intended to leave them at the station's front entrance, since they were Muggles and couldn't know about Platform 9 3/4. However, his darling little sister wasn't letting him go and Leo couldn't exactly tell her the truth. Though he and Peter were father and son, Peter had not raised him and had no knowledge of the wizarding world. Telling either of them would be grounds for expulsion under the Statute of Secrecy. Leo had considered, more than once, performing magic in front of them both. However, he had decided to wait until he was finish with his schooling. The last thing he wanted was to be expelled from Hogwarts for turning the Dawson family cat into a tea cozy.

So, neither his father for his half-sister knew the reason that they couldn't see him onto the train. However, Peter could tell that Leo needed them both gone. "C'mon poppet," Peter said, coming to his son's rescue, "We'll go do a little shopping, yeah?" Katelyn's face lit up at the mention of shopping and she latched onto her father instead of her half-brother. "Okay Daddy! Bye-bye Leo!" She let go of her father's hand just long enough to give Leo a squeeze around the middle. Then, the two of them took off and disappeared into the crowd. Leo watched them go, sighing quietly. Sometimes he wished that he could just go to Muggle school....but then, he'd never give his time at Hogwarts up for anything. Who would? It was an amazing place.

Leo turned to the cart laden with his trunk and other belongings, heading for the arch between platforms 9 and 10. There were chattering families of wizard-folk, lone Muggleborn students, gaggles of first years and his fellow seventh years. Leo started to feel the buzz of anticipation before he even got near the platform. He quickened his pace slightly, soon at a light run as he hit the archway and phased through onto Platform 9 3/4. The scarlet Hogwarts train greeted him and Leo grinned. He would never get tired of seeing that train. He paused for a moment as he considered the fact that this would be his final year seeing the train waiting for him. He sighed, soon drawn out of his reverie by a rather irritated hoot. Jareth, his barn owl, was perched atop the trunk. He'd had to keep his distance while Leo was around Peter and Katelyn and he wasn't very thrilled about it. "I know, I know," Leo said as he held his arm out for the owl to perch on, "But you know the law. They can't know." Jareth clacked his beak at Leo until he was given an owl-treat, then took off into the air again. The barn owl hated traveling by train - he much preferred to fly and Leo knew that the avian messenger would be waiting for him once he arrived at Hogwarts. Once his ill-tempered owl had taken off, Leo turned and climbed up onto the train. He didn't much feel like sequestering himself into a carriage to wait for the train to depart and instead took off through the train cars, looking for his friends from prior years.

Seladore had made her way to King's Cross alone, as was per usual. Her grandfather hardly acknowledged her these days. She acted like it didn't bother her but deep down she missed the kindly old man that used to carry her around on his shoulders and let her play with his wand. He reminded her of her father. Growing up, Seladore's father had been her only human contact. They had lived in Romania in the depths of a dragon preserve, far from any humans, Muggle or magical. When the Ministry had taken her away from her father and placed him in jail, Seladore's grandparents had taken her in. Her grandmother had told her the awful things that her father had done, and how he'd taken her from her mother and what had happened to the woman after her infant daughter had gone missing. Seladore's trust in others had been broken that day. Slowly she came to trust Grandmother and Grandfather, only for that trust to be broken again when she insisted on Hogwarts and her grandfather turned on her. Nowadays she rarely trusted anyone, or at least she didn't trust them very much. She trusted the other girls in her year not to hex her while she slept, but she didn't trust them to have her back if she were attacked. She trusted her Quidditch teammates to help her win the game but she didn't particularly trust them off the field. She sighed and pushed the trolley laden with her trunk and other things through the station. Glares were shot at Muggles that dared give her strange looks and anyone that dared say something was growled at. Seladore LaRue was not exactly known for being a sophisticated creature...herins

She passed through the wall between the platforms with practiced ease. Her trunk was handed over to the porter and taken away to the luggage car. She then turned and made her way along the platform. Something small stirred in her bag and then a small whiskered face with two bright oil-drop eyes poked out. Hemlock peered around the platform, tiny nose twitching. The rat squeaked and vanished into the bag again when an eagle owl swooped out of the sky. Seladore watched as the owl perched on Leo Lockport's arm, then flew off again. Seladore watched for a few minutes before opening the bag and looking inside. "It's okay," she said softly, voice surprisingly soft and little-girl-ish for someone that had been growling at strangers mere minutes before, "You can come out. He's gone now." Hemlock poked her head out once more, then climbed up onto Seladore's shoulder. She stayed perched there as Seladore climbed aboard the train and went after the first empty carriage she saw. She sat down and fished a baggie of sunflower seeds out of her bag. She poured a few into her palm and handed one to Hemlock. As the rat nibbled the treat Seladore took a few for herself, cracking the shells between her teeth and devouring the seed inside before spitting the seed out of the slightly opened window. Unladylike? Perhaps, but like she cared.

"Suppose Slytherin will receive many new students?" she asked the rat as they shared the sunflower seeds. It seemed that Slytherin wasn't much of a 'desireable' House these days, ever since the Second Wizarding War. Salazar Slytherin's legacy and the House's reputation for producing Dark wizards meant that most people avoided Slytherin at all costs. She sighed and gently stroked the top of Hemlock's head as the rat nudged her hand for another seed. Seladore smiled and gladly handed one over. There was a reason that she preferred animals to humans. Animals did not decieve; they were striaghtforward and honest with what they wanted. Food, sleep, mates, territory. If only humans were so easy to understand, she thought as she peered out the window at the students milling aimlessly around the platform.

"Are you sure she'll be okay?"
"Sure I'm sure. I went to Hogwarts when I was her age."
"And look how that turned out."
                                      "Oh ha-ha, very funny. Smartass."

Mira Franklin turned around and frowned at her parents. Her papa, James, was pushing the trolley laden with her trunk and bags. Her daddy, Adam, was pushing the buggy containing her baby brother Donnie. Mira was carrying her backpack and the cage that held her new owl, a Scops owl named Ash for his ash grey feathers. They were moving at a good clip through the station, but it wasn't nearly fast enough for Mira. "You guys!" she pouted, "We're gonna miss the train!" She was bouncing on the spot with nervous energy, green eyes flickering from a nearby clock to her fathers and back. Ever since waking up that morning Mira had been terrified that she was going to somehow miss the train and miss her chance to go to the same school that her mother and one of her fathers had attended. Adam shook his head and said, "Relax, doll. If you miss the train we'll find another way to get you to school. Floo powder, maybe. I'll even Apparate you to Hogsmeade and walk you up to the school gates myself if I have to. You'll be fine." He smiled at his stepdaughter and Mira seemed to relax...for about thirty seconds. Then she was off again, heading for Platforms 9 and 10. After several minutes, most of which was spent convincing James that yes, all you had to do was walk straight at the wall and no, you wouldn't just crash into it, the Franklin family finally arrived on Platform 9 3/4 where the Hogwarts Express was waiting. "Well I'll be damned," James muttered as he handed Mira's things over to the porter to be loaded onto the train. And here he thought that the wizarding world couldn't surprise him anymore.

After hugs and kisses good-bye, and several promises to write home every single night, Mira waved good-bye to her fathers and her baby brother and scrambled onto the train. Once there....she had no idea what to do. The compartments nearest to her were all full of people, and all of them older students that she didn't know. Now, being surrounded by strangers normally didn't faze Mira. She just didn't want to go intruding on a compartment that was already full - that was rude. After checking the compartments nearest her - all full to the limit - she moved on to the next car, looking for an empty seat and some potential new friends to sit with. She carried Ash along with her, having been rather unwilling to give him up to the porter. She had just gotten him three months ago, right at the start of the summer. They were already pretty close, but then, Ash was close to anyone that was willing to give him cuddles and food. Mira and her fathers must have arrived after most people had already gotten settled. Most of the compartments that she passed by were more or less full up. Eventually, however, Mira came by a compartment that was not yet filled with people. She opened the door and let herself in. Her backpack was set at her feet and Ash's cage was set in the seat next to her (though of course, she would move it if someone wanted to sit there).

Once she was settled in, Mira reached into her backpack and pulled out a book. It was one of her textbooks - The Standard Book of Spells, Volume 1 - and cracked it open. She had spent all summer reading it again and again. It wasn't boring like her books from her other school had been. She started reading and, after a furtive look around the compartment, she reached into her backpack and took out a slim wooden case that held her wand. Mira opened it up and took her wand out. She'd only practiced a few tiny spells with it, because Daddy said she wasn't supposed to use it outside of school. But the train was like the school, right? Right! Mira rummaged in her backpack until she found a piece of paper. She placed it on the seat opposite her and set about practicing Wingardium Leviosa.

Aaron only got a quarter amount of sleep he usually got at night...he the day was the day to be going back to Hogwarts. He believed he was part of the all-around stereotype for students -- Hogwarts is his second home. Most of his clothers were all packed up days in advance. His parents were well aware of the Diagon Alley rush during this time of year, so they went a week in advance to get all his new books, Quidditch gear, and of course, a couple souvenirs for himself. Aaron was lucky to have have both his parents in the ministry, with his father, Elijah, the vice president of the Department of Magical Games and Sport, and his mother, Amanda, an Auror for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. They managed to bring in the galleons to easily pay for Aaron's schooling, but he never was the type to use his wealth to gloat, brag, or to even bribe out of major situations. Therefore, he kept the fact that he was on the wealthier side of Pure-blood wizards, to himself.

The night before leaving, Aaron caught up on reading his Transfiguration book, particularly the Animagus Section. His goal, after achieving his many intended passing N.E.W.T.s, was to become an Animagus and be registered after graduation. To most it wasn't a huge deal, but to Aaron, it was quite contrary. Most of the week before leaving, apart from saying goodbye to his muggle friends(who believed that he was heading back to a boarding school in Wales), was getting sneak peeks of each of the books he had to use this year. Some stuff seemed interesting...other stuff...not so much...the joys of school right?

This morning, Aaron was wide awake as he changed into some street clothes, keeping his robes on top to change into when on the train. He went downstairs of his home, where his parents were having a Muggle Type breakfast: Sunnyside up Eggs, Toast, Crispy Bacon, and Orange Juice. "Mornin' Mom...Dad!!" He said with a little excitement. His parents were sort of rushing, making him chow down on his Americanized breakfast, despite their whole ordeal of getting the day off from their jobs at the ministry. The joys of having an Amercan father, always wanting to be on the go. Mom was still in her pjs, drinking her morning cup of tea and reading the latest issue of the Daily Prophet. "If I leave a couple sickles out, could you subscribe me to all the Prophets this year?" HIs mom looked up surprised at Aaron's question. She took another sip of tea. "I did not realize you wanted to read it. No, we'll be more than happy to pay for an additional subscription, its only a couple more knuts a month. Do you want us to keep your subscription to the Muggle Football magazines as well?" Aaron grinned as he swallowed down the last bit of toast on his plate. "Please. Lakota can bring those to me no problem...Where is he anyways."

At that moment, he heard a familiar screech similar to a Hawk's. He knew Lakota was near. A couple seconds later, his eagle owl perched himself on the windowsill with a couple of mail bits on his beak. Aaron walked over to his owl and took off the bits of mail that were on him. Elijah, his father, tore up a piece of bacon for Lakota for his breakfast. "Might as well keep him on a full stomach while being in the caged up all day," his father said with a 'California-lazy' English - similar to how Aaron himself spoke. Aaron grinned as he looked through the extra mail. His last Football/Soccer Magazine on his last subscription, a Champions League magazine, and a letter for Eli. "Dad, you got a letter...From the British and Irish League Headquarters?". His father turned to his son. "Oh, that must be the the response from Mr. Tyree. About damn time...I'll read it later today. In the meantime, Aaron you need to get all your belongings together. Leavin' in 15." Aaron looked at the time and saw it was only 9:20. Aaron nodded and ran back up the stairs back to his room. He had his single-strap bookbag - charmed with the Undetectable Extension Charm to carry more stuff with not so much weight - a large trunk for all his clothes, the cage for his owl, and lastly, a very long, narrow trunk for his trusty Firebolt, a gift form his parents in his 3rd year, after a year of being on the Quidditch team. His broomstick was his baby and definitely treated it like one, with a full cleaning, polishing, and repair kit, which he paid three weeks of allowances for. He even had the head of Gryffindor, charm his broom preventing curses from the crowd to mess with him.

After he got his stuff all together, he packed it all in his parents' Muggle Range Rover he put all his belongings into a small crate, also with the Extension Charm. He made sure that he put both his Soccer/Football magazines into his bookbag for something to read on the long train ride. He also got his pouch of Galleons, sickles, and knuts for the sweets trolley on the train, as well as for future trips to Hogsmeade. "All set." he muttered to himself. Moments later, his parents, also in street clothes, came out with his owl. "Don't want to forget him now, do you?" Amanda said in her motherly tone. She carried a portable cup of tea with her for the road. After everything was packed and everyone was buckled in, they went off to the train station.

The lived in one of the nicer areas of North London, so the trip to the station was not that long, compared to most other students who attend. On the drive, he kept to himself as his parents went back and forth about gossip about coworkers or recent arrests, or future Quidditch coming up. Aaron just looked out the window...seeing the horizon of skyscrapers and buildings. They found a spot right in front of the station. Aaron immediately went for a cart as his parents brought out Lakota's cage and the charmed crate. The three of them walked into the station, just like ordinary muggles. His father brought out a muggle iPad and pretend to doodle on the touchscreen while his mother kept checking her handbag for something...strange. They got to the platform. "Coast clear, guys?" Eyes still peered in their respective items, his parents replied..."Yes, Go" at the same time. Rolling his eyes, Aaron casually jogged his trolley through the wall and onto Platform 9 3/4. He waited a couple seconds for his parents to come in behind him. "I'll be right back. Gunna drop off Lakota and my stuff. Promise I'm coming back." Aaron went towards the back of the train to drop off his belongings, making sure he took out his bookbag in time. He turned to his caged owl "Take care, and don't be a hassle with the employees this time, ok?" He said to his owl as he gave him a small rub behind his ears. The bird replied with small, light nips to his fingers from inside the cage. "I'll see you tonight." Aaron went back to his parents, only to see them speaking to some friends from work. Most ministry employees took the day off for their sons and daughters to see them go off to school. It was no surprise to Aaron really, he's dealt with it since his first year.

"Alright...well...See you both at Christmas time, I guess." Aaron interrupted the conversation. He went on to hug both of his parents, did the whole "I love you" spiel and went on the train. He looked back to see both of them back in conversation with the co-workers. Once inside, Aaron realized there were still a lot of compartments open since it was still early. Train wasn't going to leave for a while. Aaron found his own compartment and dropped his bookbag along the length of the seat. He opened one of the muggle Football/Soccer magazines he just got and began reading through. He'd look for his friends later...

LYDIAbernadetteGLASS
they call me... GLASS

l o c a t i o n :: kings cross station | c o m p a n y :: alone at the moment | o u t f i t :: hating it

Lydia Glass could sleep through almost anything including the loud banging come from her door. The girl curled up under a pile of quilts, hiding from the light creeping into the window. Osiris had perched himself on the foot of his master's bed, his beak tucked under his wing. The bird was snoozing rather peacefully, he did not bother to stir at the knocking. Suddenly, a heavy weight dropped down on the sleeping witch. "Hey Liddy you gunna wake up?", it was Lydia's little brother Grayson. He sat on her legs as she slowly began to wake up, her eyes opening slowly to see his bright blue eyes staring down at her. "Mummy made cakes!", he cried excitedly playfully swatting on her knee. Lydia Groaned and then suddenly she sat up, wrapping her arms tightly around the child. Showering him with kisses as he laughed loudly and struggled to free himself. His giggles startled Osiris awake, the grumpy little owl quickly fluttered into his cage to hid. Now awake Lydia saw that her father was standing in her bedroom door way with his arms crossed and a faint smile on his lips.
"Mornin' Papa, are you the one that let this little rascal in here?", Lydia laughed as little Grayson tried his hardest to pull his sister from her bed. Her father only chuckled and scooped his son up under his arm.

Grayson continued to giggle as he swung from his father's arm. "Hurry up and get dressed sweetheart, you don't want to be late", he ordered in the sweetest tone he could manage before carrying his son out. Leaving Lydia alone to begin her day.

After stretching and yawning, the witch began to crawl out of her bed tossing aside her blankets. Lydia opened her shutters and let the full force of the suns light wash over her room. Then she stumbled half blind into her restroom to shower and brush her hair. It did not take long, and when she finished she found her stepmother sitting in her room. "Lydia, your father and I bought you a new dress to wear to the station", she said pointing to a simple black and grey dress laying on her bed. Lydia wanted to shake her head and refuse, but if it made her stepmother happy Lydia would at least wear the dress to the station. Nervously she gave the woman thanks and shooed her out before getting dressed.

Lydia hated dresses, she felt to exposed and people were always looking at her weird when she wore them. Today was sure to be no different. Lydia pulled the dress on and then found her boots that would sort of match it. Once she was dressed and her hair dried she left the tiny little cottage she called a room and ran across the court yard to the main house where her family waited for her. The breakfast table was filled with her favorites, this always happened when she went off to school. Lydia began to pile her plate high with food while the Glass men ate straight from the platter. There breakfast was short lived, because all too soon the Glass family were all loading into the family car before they left for Kings Cross Station.

At the station, Lydia piled her things onto a troll and then sat her brother ontop of her trunk and letting him ride through the station. The parents followed behind them as they walked at a slow pace towards Platform 9 3/4. The passed through the barrier and Lydia gave her family each a long goodbye hug, though she held tightest to Grayson who began crying once he realized his sister was going to be gone for another year. "Hush now little brother, this is my last year", Lydia whispered softly. "I'll be home for holidays too". These promises did little to sooth the child, and his tears nearly caused the girl to cry herself. His mother took him and held him tight as he sniffled into her collar. Lydia gave her family one last wave before climbing on to the train to quickly find a compartment and avoid another teary eyed moment with Grayson.

As she walked down the aisle she saw a familiar figure boarding not far from where she had been. "Leo!" she called out his name as she approached him.

Ryder stood amongst the crowd of family's saying their goodbye's and sending off their children. He smiled and nodded to familiar faces as they passed before slowly turning his head to look down at the woman with chestnut brown hair much like his own, only lighter. She finished inspecting his trolley before looking back up at him with a warm smile, "That's everything sorted then, isn't it?" Ryder simply nodded in agreement, tapping his fingers gently on the brass cage of his short-eared owl, Steenie who looked up at him with a questioning tilt of his head. "Yup, that's everything Ma."

Abbie-Rose looked up at her son with eyes that threatened to form tears, "I'm sorry your father couldn't be here to see you off, Ryder-", "It's alright Ma, I understand. Somebody's got to get those farmers prepared for Autumn." Ryder reached over to give his mother's shoulder a small rub. Abbie-Rose nodded and clenched her eyes shut momentarily before looking at him with sincere eyes. "He is so, very proud of you Ryder, you know that don't you? We both are, you're going to do great this year, I just know it." She stepped towards Ryder and hugged him tightly. Ryder wrapped his arms around her and returned the hug with a big grin, dimples forming in his cheeks. "Well now you've gone and jinxed me, Ma. Now I'll break every bone in my body and come back to you and Dad, wrapped entirely in plaster." Abbie-Rose couldn't help but smile and shake her head. She reached up and gave Ryder a light, playful slap on the cheek for ruining the moment, which he craned his neck away from and chuckled at.

"Now you be sure to write us a letter fairly soon. You know how worried your father can get sometimes." Abbie-Rose slightly rolled her eyes and smiled up at her son. "Aye Ma'am, I'll write you and Dad the first free moment of The Morrow." Ryder responded with a dutiful nod. His mother reached up to brush the remnants of floo powder off of his shoulder before caressing a spot on his cheek affectionately, she leaned up to peck that spot tenderly. "That's my young man. Well, I've kept you long enough, have a safe trip, and don't miss us too much, alright?" Abbie-Rose released Ryder before stepping back and wiping her tears away with her thumbs. Ryder grinned at his mother, "I'll try not too, Ma. Have a safe trip back." Abbie-Rose smiled and blew him a kiss as she began to step back, "Love you!" She turned and began to walk towards the barrier. Ryder waved to her and called back before she disappeared in the crowd, "I love you too!" Ryder turned and gave the porter a pat on the back in thanks for helping him with his own luggage and Steenie before climbing aboard the Hogwarts Express.

Glancing around the compartments, Ryder found familiar faces and nodded to them as he passed. A couple of his friends called out to him and ruffled his hair on passing. He chuckled and started to follow them before catching sight of Valeria in a nearby compartment. Ryder grinned and knocked on the glass pane of the door before sliding it open and poked his head in,
"Hey Val! Would you mind if I joined you?".

She watched as all the seemingly happy parents, muggle and magical alike, had come to see their children off to Hogwarts, and smiled. It made her happy that at least some families could get along, because she knew hers was much too frayed to every be fixed. Searching over the faces of those outside, she noticed a few that she could remember from classes, and others that she'd never seen before. Even though Hogwarts was a big school with hundreds of children coming in, everyone was very close knit, so she knew a First Year when she saw one. She loved to see the look of utter fascination that came over their faces, the way they looked about and were totally mystified by everything around them. It reminded her of her first time on the platform...

Continuing to look across the platform, she noticed a familiar face and grinned. He seemed to have realised she was sitting there as well. A tall, dark haired guy with clear skin smiled back at Valeria and waved a bit. Valeria waved back, but didn't look away, this was the first time she'd seen her dad in a long time, as he never came when she came back from Hogwarts. Love you, Valeria mouthed, knowing that her father was close enough to see her. Love you too, Val. He mouthed back. Valeria smiled, this was one more reason why the first day of school was Valeria's favourite day. He was soon engulfed in the mass of students coming into the train. When they were gone, so was he, leaving Valeria to think that, possibly, she imagined him.

Just as she was about to question her sanity, there was a knock on the carriage window, and a singsong voice asked, "Hey Val! Would you mind if I joined you?" Turing her head to look at a tall brunette, Valeria smiled again, "Sup Ryder, come in," She greeted, motioning to the seat across from her. Looking over him, she trid her best to stifle a laugh. "I'm sorry, I should probably ask about your summer, but I'm an a** and would like to know this: what the hell are you wearing?" She asked, hand over her mouth. She knew that she had Gryffindor pride, and knew that sometimes she wore her school colours in front of muggles, but the sweater he wore was just hideous. As far as she knew, mustard wasn't one of Hufflepuff's house colours, and couldn't help but find it a bit hilarious.

First morning light shined down upon the sleeping brunette. The girl rolled over in her bed, slowly waking to the smell of her mother cooking. She smiled as she stretched. Today was her first day of her last year at Hogwarts, and she was ecstatic. Analise ruffled her feathers as Nicki's movement jostled her perch beside the bed. Nicki gently petted the bird before hopping up and hurrying into her bathroom to get ready.

The girl took a quick shower before doing her hair and make-up for the day, pulling her long raven locks into a cute bun, securing a headband as a final touch before going to put on her clothes. She had picked the clothes out the week before, wanting a cute outfit to show up in but something not too dressy. She put on some ripped tights and pulled a pair of jean shorts on over them. She grabbed her favorite batman crop tank top and tugged it over her head, tying it at the middle. Nicole smiled at herself in the mirror and added her deathly hallows necklace, a gift from her brother, to her outfit for a final touch before heading downstairs to see what her mother had made for breakfast.

Hopping down the stairs of her home to the kitchen, Nicki shoved her elder brother playfully with her shoulder. "Look out bro, big bad witch coming through" she said smiling. The man chuckled and shoved her back a little harder. "Oh yeah?" he asked "Says the girl who is still learning basic charms. We all know who the real bad a** wizard of this family is." he teased. "Watch your mouth young man, I may be just a 'muggle' to wizards but I am your mother" a small woman said, coming out of the kitchen. Nicole laughed and hugged her mom. "Morning Momma" she said giving the woman a kiss on the forehead.

The family of three moved into the kitchen, Jeff raided the fridge for drinks and tossed Nicki her favorite muggle soda. "Thanks bro" she said sitting down at the table. There was a large amount of food made for her. "Its the first day of your last year, I wanted to give you a celebration breakfast" her mum said, sitting down with her. "Thanks mom" Nicole replied sincerely before stuffing her face. Bacon, Sausage, Eggs, Pancakes, Cinnamon rolls, hash browns. It was an extensive breakfast, with everything that Nicole loved. She might seem like a skinny girl but Nicki loved to eat. That was one of the reasons she loved Hogwarts. There was never a shortage of food there. It was a buffet for her every meal. A black ball of fur jumped up onto Nicole's lap. She smiled petting the kitten. "Good morning to you, Midnight" she said softly. She took a saucer and poured some milk into the bottom and sat it down on the floor. Midnight hopped down and started having its breakfast.

Once the girl was done with breakfast she hurried back upstairs to put on her shoes and grab her bags. "Put on a sweater!" her mom called "Its chilly outside." Nicole chuckled. "Ok ma" she called down grabbing a overly large, cream, studded cardigan and slipping it on. Analise flew over and perched itself on her bag. "Alight Analise, Time to get into the cage, just for a little while." Her owl hated being in a cage. It was calm and obedient, it never caused a ruckus in her house. The owl whoo'd softly ruffling her feathers up in annoyance but complied. Nicky carried the cage and tugged her suitcase behind her. Soon Jeff was hurrying up the stairs to help her carry her things. Her mum gave her a huge hug, trying not to cry as her daughter would be gone another year. "Be careful you hear. You write to me, every day!" her mom said. Nicole nodded. "I promise I will mum." she said. Her mom finally released her daughter and handed her a pet travel bag with midnight in it. Nicole smiled and took it. "Ill be home for break before you know it" she said giving her mom another kiss on the forehead before walking out to her brothers car.

                                                  ------

Once at the station, Jeff parked and ran inside to get her a luggage cart. The siblings sat her suitcases on first, then her owls cage and her kittens travel bag on top. She smiled at her brother. "Well, This is it" she said exhaling. "Yep. You'll do fine. You made it this far." Jeff said pulling his sister in for a hug. "Take care of mum." Nicole said hugging her brother back. "You know I will" the man said. Nicole kissed her brothers cheek. "See you in a few months." Her brother nodded. "Have a good last year" he said to her. She nodded and headed inside to the station and platform 9¾. Getting to the Hogwarts express was simple, but challenging as you had to do it when no muggles were watching. Nicole waited for her chance, getting weird looks from Muggles who weren't yet used to seeing eighteen year old girls with owls at the station. Eventually she saw her chance and ran into the brick wall, going through it, finally making it to her destination.

Nicole smiled being surrounded by her peers. The first years, nervously glancing around. So sweet. She always enjoyed the first years, and tried to help them out whenever she could. Nicole got her stuff put where it needed to be, took her owl and her kitten and hurried onto the train, excitement filling her belly. She looked around for people she knew and saw her best friend since first year, Leo, and a girl that she had talked to on a few occasions, Glass. "Hey Leo! Glass!" she called to them, walking up with a smile.

                                                  Kyla Glass

Aaron watched the Hogwarts slowly start filling up with returning and prospective students. He thought it was really cute seeing some of the confused first years trying to find a place to sit, and would often feel intimidated when they walked by Aaron's compartment. "I don't bite...what gives?" he thought to himself. He noticed a couple of kids that he recognized but they too would just walk by without a nod. Aaron hopefully would find someone he knew and was willing to hang out wit him.

It was a bummer for Aaron. He does not have that many close friends at the school, let alone regular friends. It's his shyness that prevents him from getting out there and meeting people. He doesn't even care about house rivalries, with of course, the exception for Quidditch. Apart from some player rivalries, Aaron doesn't really get to know them as friends. He took another glance out the door from his compartment and still no one... "Maybe this year will be the year I get my name out there...not in a bad way of course" he muttered as he continued reading on in his muggle magazine.

Aaron kept trying to find articles from his favorite team, Arsenal F.C. A local team for Soohoo, Arsenal have been his team since he was about 6 or 7 years old. When his parents had him attend muggle primary school, Aaron was also playing some muggle sports as well, with European Football being his favorite. He played as a striker, and with his muggle team, he scored plenty of goals...no magic involved what so ever. He was good enough that Arsenal even offered him a contract to play in their youth academy at the age of 8. However, his parents, felt that he was coming of wizarding age and would have to quit to eventually be a student at Hogwarts. Aaron declined the opportunity, but definitely has remained caught up on fixtures, injuries, transfer rumors, the whole works. He even owns some fan gear that he keeps around his dormitory. It's also red, like Gryffindor, so it goes well with the rest of the scenery.

Aaron continued to read on...hoping someone will knock on his door.

4th year Gryffindor - easy going - sarcastic - sore loser

Aled should have been proud of his little sister… hypothetically. She had made it this far without so much as an obnoxious peep, but as their parent's car approached King's Cross, Evelyn clung to him like a leech. He didn’t know whether he’d prefer her giggling and bouncing around (but at least leaving him alone) or quiet but clinging to him as if for dear life like she was currently.

This morning had been fairly routine. The O’Connor family had gotten up early to venture from the quiet little suburbs into London as they had done three years previously. Aled had quite gotten used to the crowds and the rush but he had either forgotten or never experienced the anxiety that Evelyn was currently going through. She hadn’t cried at all, contrary to Aled’s expectations, yet instead she just had a sort of nervous look on her face, and it almost appeared as if her eyes were about to pop out of her head. All the same, she had hardly uttered a peep for the majority of the car ride.

The first day of school was always odd because both Aled's mother and father had taken off of work in the morning to be able to send them off. Grandma Gale did the honors of driving them all into the city, as she was the only one in the family who couldn't just Apparate to wherever she wished to go. Aled and his sister kissed her goodbye before they parted ways and followed their parents into the station. It was always hard to leave their grandmother, as she was really the one who had raised the children while their parents were so busy, and for a moment he felt a bit down as he remembered she wouldn't even have Evelyn to look after this year. No, he would now have that responsibility he thought, as she looked, wide-eyed around the busy station. Once they all arrived at the border that separated the rest of the station from platform 9 ¾, Aled showed his sister the way through the barrier, and waited for the rest of his family to follow suit. As expected, Evelyn gasped to see the bright red steam engine with gold and black lettering spelling out "The Hogwarts Express." Continuing to serve as her tour guide, Aled led her over to the pile of trunks, bags, and luggage where the students left their things before boarding. He handed over his broom and trunk, and then proceeded to unload Evelyn's things from the trolley as well.

Their goodbyes to their parents were short and sweet, but Aled could have sworn he saw a couple tears fall down Evelyn's cheeks. She grabbed Aled's hand as they headed toward the train. It wasn't exactly the coolest thing to do, but he had to couldn't just abandon his sister to fend for herself; for all he knew she would get left behind at the platform and he would be grounded forever. "Don't worry, we'll be seeing them at Christmas," he tried to reassure her, and when he looked back at her, she had wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, still silent. Peering in each of the compartments, Aled was on the look-out for a familiar face, and finally found one when he saw the top of Aaron Soohoo's head behind a muggle sports magazine. He didn't bother to knock, but instead slid the door open enough to pop his head in. "Hey, long time no see!" Opening it a little more to show his sister in the doorway, Aled continued with a half smile, "Mind if we join you?" Surely Aaron wouldn't mind; the older student might have been shy, but he had helped Aled out when he was a little, lost first year. Hopefully Evelyn would be less nervous with another older student to show her the ropes.

"Let's go!" Donovan shouted across the house, to his uncle, who was rummaging around for something in the house. His uncle shouted back for him to hold on. "What are you looking for?" The keys. He let out a sigh. If Donovan had his way, he would have his uncle just apparate them to King's Cross, but the older man insisted on driving a completely muggle SUV. His uncle's reasons? To improve his skills behind the wheel, since he was dating a muggle woman. "Use 'Accio'..." Suddenly the rummaging stopped.

After nearly getting lost, and being stuck in traffic for a bit, they were finally parked in the drop-off area of the station, and Donovan had climbed out to get his things. A simple 'Bye' and wave to his uncle was all they shared on leaving.
"Calm down, Kinzy," he said to the caged owl, who was frantically turning her head in different directions. She was fine inside the cage, but Donovan figured the car ride shook her up a bit. He gave her a treat from a side pocket on his trunk, and she quickly became focused on that, and not the frightening car ride.

Donovan closed the doors of the SUV and made his way to the station, dressed in black pants and a black t-shirt, which displayed a muggle rock group, and a green jacket over that. On the other side of the portal, he handed his things off to the baggage handler and climbed into one of the cars that sat most of the Slytherins. He moved from compartment to compartment, looking for somewhere to sit, but didn't find one he was interested in, and even got one or two ugly looks from people he called friends two years ago. Oh well. Donovan left the car, heading further forward in the train, and saw someone in the halls he would rather hang out with.

He weaved between a couple of students that were clogging the isles and caught up with the Ravenclaw girl, "Hey, Parker..."

Leo hadn't really found anyone from prior years that he much felt like sitting with. He was on the verge of just plopping himself where ever he found a spare seat, whether the others there liked it or not, when he heard a familiar voice from down the hall. No, scratch that, make that two familiar voices. The first was Lydia Glass, or Glass as she preferred, a Hufflepuff seventh year and someone that Leo was really very fond of. He grinned at her and called, "Hey Glass! I was wondering if you were here yet." He reached out in the somewhat narrow hallway and managed to pull Glass into a one-armed hug, ruffling her hair a little just to be a pain. He glanced down at her dress....waitasecond, since when did she wear dresses? Not that he was complaining; she looked nice in it. Leo debated making a comment on it and decided after a few seconds. Glass was a heck of a duelist, and he didn't really feel like spending the first day of his last year with a watermelon for a head or something because he'd made her mad.

Nicole Parker was right on Glass's heels and Leo's grin widened as he called, "Hey Nicky! I missed you!" The summer was boring without his party buddy. He didn't know how but Nicole always seemed to know where the good parties were and how to get out of the castle to get to them. He squeezed past Glass to give Nicole a hug in greeting as well, then scooted back to try and make room for all three of them in the hallway. They were going to start blocking traffic if they didn't get a move on here soon-ish. He started peeking in windows looking for an empty compartment. There was one nearby with only one occupant, a Slytherin girl that Leo vaguely recognized....Seladore. The Seeker for the Slytherin Quidditch team. Leo found her weird, but in a good way. She didn't seem to care what other people thought and just did what felt natural to her. Feral, some people called her, but Leo thought they were just being jerks. He was going to open the door and suggest that they join here when a third voice, this one male, came from down the hall.

Leo glanced over Nicole shoulder and spotted Donovan Kennedy. Like Seldaore, he was a Slytherin and played Quidditch, though Leo was not particularly fond of him. To be honest, outside of the Quidditch pitch Leo really just tolerated Donovan. He was friends with Nicole too and Leo didn't really understand what Donovan's problem with him was. They were only a year apart and Leo remembered Donovan being kind of a jerk - your standard Slytherin - up until a few years back. Leo frowned but didn't say anything; the door of the nearby compartment slid open and Seladore popped her head out. She glanced at the group and pointed out, "You're blocking the hall...."
