                                      • THE┊FIRST CHAPTER UPDATE ◞ * this will be made pretty later

It was that time of year again and in a couple hours, it would simply be another extravagant dinner gone by. But unfortunately, the first item on the list was to listen his boss ramble on about the school rules (which would just be ignored later anyways probably by the disciplinary council) and expectations and any special announcements or notifications. And of course, the usual stereotypical, motivational speech that any headmaster should give at the beginning of the year followed afterwards. To make a long speech short, it would have sounded exactly like “Word hard, don’t fool around in your classes, take the missions seriously and you should be able to achieve your dreams.” It was much longer than that though.

The lightning user shifted forward in his seat, slouching against the palm of hand as he waited for the magical words of ‘let the year begin’ which he would bet a dime on that his boss would use yet again this dinner. And yep, his boss used it again for the fifth time in a row to open up the dinner. Not that he really cared, the only thing that mattered at the moment was to get that delicious looking chicken onto his plate. He might have had fought with his family’s cloud user for the first piece - only with forks and knives of course - but it was finally on his plate. And there was definitely not a knife stabbed into the table in front of one of the innocent little first years at the end of the meal.

After everything deescalated and the end of the night was nearing, Katsurou watched as the headmaster rose from his seat. “Now everyone, I hope that you have taken in the note in the letter to get a lot of extra sleep before today because we are have a mission tonight. Now, most of you are seated with other students that share the same flame as you considering if you listened to the instructions on the boat earlier.” The lightning user chuckled as some people shifted around spots to sit with their fellow flame users. When everyone finally quieted down, the sun user continued, “If you lift up your plates, you will all find a B-ranked ring for each of you. The top five groups of this mission will get to keep their rings for the remainder of the year.”

Followed after was the mission details. It was not much since all of them were essentially told that they have been put into groups which were listed on the wall somewhere in the hall, that it was a trial of some kind which they would have to last the night through. Right, and that they were not allowed to stop by their rooms for anything either for the moment except maybe their weapons. Depends if the headmaster and deputy headmaster were feeling generous. Katsurou smirked as he stood up with several other members of his family. It was time to start deactivating the protective barrier around the school.

Fleeting’s note: So everyone should have already found their groups. When each group left the room, they were given a device that is meant to record the number of demons. One hour has passed since dinner and everyone should be wandering around the halls (with their weapons luckily). First years have just been given a random weapon unless your characters has specifically bought theirs from home. You guys can slay the monster waves however you like, just one or two at a time everyone - maybe visit titanpad to plan out when people should post for the monster slaying? They are all low-level and medium-level demons. Oh and not all of the monsters have to be killed btws. I changed the groups because of balance issue, sorry everyone D: You can name them too - I will just add a name to the monster when one is used ♥

Group one: Este, Pierre, Vincent, Gregory
Group two: Paolo, Tav, Julio, Lucas, Jun
Group three: Hugo, Bellamy, Kaili, Thierry
Group four: Marcus, Nico, Elias, open
Group five: Anri, Shouji, Kouichi, open

Monster type one: (low-level - 5 remaining) A bat-like creature that appears to look like it is made up from black ooze. Its techniques usually involve manipulating the ooze to either form projectiles or haul at targets. The ooze is mildly acidic and this monster although resistant to storm flames, it is weak against rain flames.
Monster type two: (low-level - 5 remaining) Essentially, it looks like a goblin carrying a small sickle. This monster moves rather slowly in comparison to other creatures but it has the ability to coat its weapon in lightning flames. There is no particular type of flame type that is strong against this monster and for a low-level creature, they are surprisingly durable.
Monster type three: (low-level - 5 remaining) A low-level spirit that has the appearance of a human with antlers. These spirits typically have some kind of nature or green motif with their Japanese-style clothing. They trap opponents in twisting vines and can strangle opponents to death. Books say that they are nature spirits that have grown corrupt over the years and that those with sun flames are the ones that can heal their tormented souls.
Monster type four: (med-level - 4 remaining) Delicate, this creature looks like a fairy about half the size of the average male. However, looks are deceiving and this fairy-like demon can use mist flames usually in the form of song to drive their enemies insane. They also can use their flames to temporarily “heal” wounds by creating very real illusions on themselves. They are generally weak against other mist users or those that can fight past their illusion.
Monster type five: (med-level - 4 remaining) With the appearance of a youthful woman, this spirit utilizes cloud flames to create clones of herself. All of the clones have equal power to one another but are weaker than the main spirit. This spirit is swift and efficient when it comes to dealing paralyzing blows by striking a person’s pressure points. Every five minutes, this spirit can phase through flames and solid matter. They are weak to no particular flame.

[[ooc: -stares at everyone- Also, those in my group, I figured I'd just place them in a hallway. We can still discuss things, but I wanted to try to get something started. ]]

Paolo followed behind the other three boys, creeping down what seemed like darkened hallways. Had the school been like this before... or was his mind just making things appear more eerily than when he had first stepped onto campus. He presumed the latter to be true. After all, things had seemed so bright and new that morning, even when he had had that embarrassing run in with that upperclassman.

He had seen him seated at a table. It would figure that Lucee would climb all over the face of one of the sky-flame users. Granted, Paolo still didn't know what that meant in technical terms, but he understood that they were true-to-life born leaders. They were judges looking for a fleet, an army, protectors. They were individuals who would likely never see Paolo as anything beyond a low level exorcist with no connections to the mafia. Maybe he really didn't belong in this world.

He managed to stop himself from bumping into one of the massive boys in his group. Wow, talk about unlucky draws. None of the three other boys he had been partnered with were Nico. They weren't even Nico-like. They were rough and rag tag and rowdy as far as Paolo could tell. They were also all giants. Now Paolo knew what it felt like to be a bug. He was terrified one of them would step back suddenly and that'd be it. The end of Paolo at the tarnished, dirty sole of one of these barbaric upperclassmen. Just -splat- and they probably wouldn't even notice. No sir, why should they? It's not like he was doing anything useful. He didn't even LOOK imposing. Goodness, where did boys this big come from? Though, Paolo was sort of pleased to see two of them had freckles like him, but that was hardly the kind of conversational topic he'd attempt with the titanic two that shared this one meager trait. It was probably the only trait they shared with him. Paolo wasn't even sure they were fully human... To be honest, they terrified him far more than any demon could ever manage.

The object in his hand ticked, or perhaps beeped. Lucee fluttered her wings. Paolo let out a timid sigh. How long had he been holding his breath. "Something..." he bit back his own words, the noise slicing through the silence of the hallways. He startled himself, even with that meek little tone. When had it become so quiet? Where were the other boys at? He gagged. Could people DIE!? he wondered.

Tch. The device once again made a strange noise. Paolo shuddered a little, looked over his shoulder, and with great trepidation, reached upward to one of the large freckled fellows. He prodded his thick arm with a gentle finger and retracted said finger as if the boy's skin were made of lava. "The meter..." He held it up. What was this thing called? "...something is coming this way?" he tilted his head, now turning the device towards him. Lucee rose from his shoulder, her light dim, like a willowisp in fog, and she made small halos around his head. If only he could change her into her other form, he could do something useful with her. Until then, she'd just be a little night light, guiding all the big baddies straight to her little master. Paolo ignored her for the moment, too concerned with whatever might be coming this way. In his other hand he clutched a pair of bolas. The school had given them to him after a lengthy review of weapons. It was apparent to whomever he was speaking that Paolo, while not a pacifist, had no interest in stabbing foes through or cracking heads. Somehow after all the interviewing, he had ended up with a net and a bola. The bola was fine... his party would be in trouble if he had to use the net any time soon.

                            • Este’s mood had improved with the prospect of demon killing. But with every passing minute, his agreeable attitude faded. The device on his wrist that served as a demon counter for the mission hadn’t decreased in number since the barrier around the school dissipated. It hadn’t made a noise or signal that a demon was near. It hadn’t done anything except remind Este that nothing had happened for the past hour of hunting. Nothing had happened spare the fading of his ready-to-prove-himself attitude that sparked at the sight of the storm ring under his plate. And the demon counting device had been only one reason as to why.

Este spun the scimitar in his right palm as he turned his head to look at his teammates behind him. The shadows of the hallway made it hard to see, but Este could make out the two boys as clear as day. Pierre looked just as cheerful as he had since they met - a jovial, teasing smile playing across his lips when they caught eyes. They hadn’t exchanged much, but not due to Pierre’s lack of trying. In attempt to avoid another shot of conversation, Este turned his attention to Vincent who on the other hand, hadn’t said a word except for when he introduced himself. Though Este preferred this to Pierre’s busy-talk, the storm-user still couldn’t get past his comrades apathetic aura. And while Este usually favored the silence, he couldn’t make himself comfortable in it. It was more infuriating than the floaty words from Pierre.

A bump against Este’s consciousness caused him to turn forward, and the scimitar in his hand stopped spinning. The storm-user felt Mango’s anxiousness before he heard the quiet tch of his demon counter. He kept his voice low as he took a step towards the end the hall, not yet peering around the corner where he knew the demon to be. Found one.

Mango stretched out her wings, giving away her position to her master. Este looked up to the cornice and then back to his teammates. He furrowed his eyebrows as if trying to translate something in his head. Horns …? … Antlers. It’s a demon with antlers… Mango flitted her wings again and Este knew he had got it right. “I don’t think it knows we’re here. I’m going to set a trap.

Before Pierre or Vincent could protest, Este tightened his grip on his blade and brought the B-rank storm ring to his lips. He whispered the enchantment under his breath and crouched down to the marble floor. Slowly, surely, Este swept the bladed edge of his scimitar across the marble, a light hiss piercing the silence. The disease spread quickly through the floor, its tendrils stopping steps away from the antlered demon. Este stood back up and looked to where he knew his familiar to be, hiding in the shadows of the darkened corner. Other than a small peek in curiosity, the demon’s demeanor hadn’t changed since Este set his trap.

It’ll infect its legs when it steps on it, Este explained in a hushed tone. I don’t know what kind of demon it is, or what it’s capable of, but the trap should at least slow it down.

Este spun the scimitar again in his hand. Let’s get it’s attention.

Oddly enough the dinner went as quiet as the night sky, much to Pierre's unyielding excitement, he had thought that Anri would've at least tried to hurt him on the way but he was disappointed that he hasn't, if he did it would've been a good way to turn the party up a notch, but in the end the heir enjoyed the meal nevertheless and the rather surprising mission that came along with it, he was trudging along at the moment with his new found partners: Este and Vincent, the two seemed to have taken a liking to the quiet side of things, so Pierre decided it was up to him to provide moral support and sunshine-y enthusiasm to their already grime and gloomy expressions, though it had totally no effect to them no matter what he say or do, even his secret "candy"-themed jokes that he only had shared with his familiar, aria, didn't seem to do any good.(they were comical gold!....at least to Pierre they were...)

They stopped however whilst Pierre was on the verge of telling his rather famous, Great-Melon-Joke, when Pierre noticed a rather peculiar presence around them, he focused his senses and immediately sensed the demon writhing before them, though he still had no idea what demon it was until he sees it in plain view, he tapped his feet twice, calling on his familiar to materialize near him, aria tapped something on his heel, and he bent down to pick it up, it seemed that aria had been carrying Pierre's sword the whole time, hiding in the shadows waiting for her master to call for her, Pierre responded with a pat on the head before placing the sheathed blade on the back of his shoulders watching as Este did some rather complicated spellwork on the spot, at that point, Pierre's eyes instantaneously sharpened, far from his usual expression, it was a rare sight for him to be this concentrated and serious, he was observing Este would great interest, his strength and tactical prowess would be a great asset for him...but it was too early to choose guardians right now..besides he already has two individuals already picked way before he even received his heir-class ring, and it would be a waste to foolishly rush his next few choices...

                                          "A distraction?~....Hmmm I think I can provide...Vincent ready yourself~...

With a mischievous glint,he raised his foot and proceeded to push Este little by little inside the demon's line of sight, of course the noise he would make by retaliating would only aggravate whatever demon it was that was near them, and just by showing up in front of it would be another great way to get its blood-boiling. Oh such a wonderful opportunity, first-hand experience to Este's skill as well as a chance at seeing vincent in action!~ Oh what delightful fun!~

Vincent trailed behind his team mates, occasionally touching the B-ranked ring on his finger. He hadn't meant to be so quiet. The truth was that he was terrified and horribly distracted. He would have blamed Tavish for stripping right in front of him, but that had been a couple of hours ago and he really should stop thinking about his room mate's freckled back. A leanly muscled, decorated with tattoos and spots and-

Oh god, he was going to Hell for this, wasn't he?

Even Pierre's jokes were falling flat as minutes went by, though Vincent would have laughed at them any other day. His mouth turned dry at the thought of his barely finished dinner. He had lost his appetite the moment the mission was given. Rubbing his stomach absently, he checked the demon-checking device with a glazed look. This was too surreal. Demons. Demons.

                                              DEMONS.

The first year almost walked into Pierre's back - ha, back, was this going to be a thing now? backs? - when he realized that his team had stopped. He exhaled as silently as he could, wrapping up his panic at the thought of actually facing a demon. He didn't even know what he could do, for goodness sake!!

Vincent watched in growing fascination as Este swept his scimitar blade over the floor, explaining that he was setting up a trap. Tendrils snaked across the spot. He held his breath, then spotted Pierre's look of concentration. It did not last long, however, as Pierre had already taken the initiative to nudge Este into the demon's line of sight.

He gulped, hand shooting out to grab Este back, but it was too late. The demon's long garments swished as it turned, its attention centering on the trio.

There was a low snarl, then its hand swung through the air. Vincent reacted on instinct, pulling Este and Pierre closer towards himself. His familiar, Ten, materialized on the top of his head just as vines shot out from the demon's hands. Ten chattered loudly, leaping and twisting in the air to avoid being hit by the vines.

Ten scampered towards the demon, taunting it with loud insults that made Vincent's ears burn. He tried not to listen too closely, only catching bits and pieces such as "antler scum". It was by far the tamest choice of words that Ten had used. Scary Demon with Scary Horns - as Vincent dubbed in his mind, or SDSH - growled, then stepped straight into Este's trap.

                                              It surged forward, then froze.

Vincent exhaled shakily, only to startle at Ten's shout. "Whatcha idiots waitin' for, eh? That won't hold the Antler Scum for long! C'mon, boy, do something!"

Vines whipped against Este's trap, the demon struggling to remove itself by sheer force. Vincent dared not shut his eyes, though he was ready to run in the opposite direction. This was madness. He hadn't even been taught anything! How was he supposed to fight? Trembling, the first year tried to concentrate on something. Anything.

I have to do this I have to do this I have to do this

                                              The ring glowed faintly

Oh my god I don't wanna die what is this what is going on???

A burst of mist flames lit the ring for a second, and then died.

"You've got to be kidding me," he almost whined, rubbing frantically at the ring. Without realizing it, the mist flames that had previously appeared were already forming a two-headed spider that pressed itself against Vincent's back. It did not tower over him like most of his illusions, barely reaching Vincent's height. One of its heads swiveled curiously at the trapped demon while the other looked as though it was about to fall asleep.

It was not the best illusion he could come up with, but it would have to do for now. "Okay, just, look threatening and, oh my god, now what..." Vincent blabbered, hands flailing uselessly as Spidey skittered towards the Antler Scum.

"What do spiders do?!" Ten's shrill voice pierced through Vincent's panic, "You idiot!!!"

                                              "They spin webs!"

Vincent yelled, then clapping a palm over his mouth in horror. The Antler Scum was twitching angrily, almost freed from Este's trap.

Spidey obligingly leaped onto the demon, all eight legs weighing down on the body as it began spinning a web. It was, however, still an illusion and could be broken if they didn't do something sooner.

                            • The rustling of the demon’s vines kept time in the suspenseful silence. Este took in a quiet breath as he peered around the corner and into the darkness. The demon’s silhouette stirred only with apathetic sways of its body. He couldn’t tell which way it was facing, but the trap he had set reminded him that it didn’t matter. All they needed was a distraction.

What a perfect moment for Pierre.

The sudden push against his back sent Este stumbling around the corner and into the hallway with the antlered demon. Consequently, the quiet air the storm user had been trying to keep broke, and in a fraction of a second Este’s audible shout of surprise reverberated down the hall. The soft susurrus of vines whipped to face the disturbance and didn’t hesitate. Two yellow eyes lit from the darkened silhouette as it retaliated, and it sent one of its twining limbs toward the end of the hall at Este.

It came faster than Este anticipated. Still recovering from Pierre’s idea of “helping”, Este found himself off-guard as the vine whipped towards him. Bent over and out of breath, Este braced himself, and he swung his sword upward in a pitiful attempt to deflect the blow or – hopefully – cut the vine. But again, right when Este expected something to happen, the action didn’t come from where Este figured it would.

Another hand was at his back, this time grabbing him instead of pushing. Este’s ironed white button-up was freed from his slacks as he was pulled, roughly, backward and into Vincent’s chest. Pierre’s left arm brushed then laid easily against Este’s right, Vincent’s other hand gripped tightly around his wrist. Pierre’s demeanor and playful smirk suggested Vincent hadn’t been as forceful. Then again, Pierre hadn’t been shoved into imminent danger. Este broke away from Vincent’s hold and glared at his companions, faking irritated interest in fixing his attire. His farce quickly broke when he reached to straighten his tie and instead of tightening it, yanked it loose and off his neck. Este pointed it in Pierre’s direction, anger clear across his face. Vincent’s familiar took the opportunity to tag himself into the fight.

Brilliant plan Pierre! Este hissed to the smug boy in front him. The tching of the familiar drowned out the rest of the curse, but Este’s voice rose until it was audible over it. That’s not what I meant when I said distraction!

The demon shrieked, and Este tore his aggravation away from Pierre. He moved and willfully stood in the demon’s line of vision, watched as his trap took effect and the demon slowed its pace. The dim light from the lanterns on the walls showed its twiggy green legs turning black, the disease’s tendrils spiraling up from the demon’s feet and to its knees. It took a couple more sluggish steps before it froze completely, ensnared in the paralyzing darkness underneath it. The demon threw its deceivingly human-like head back and shrieked again - a sound not at all recognizable - helpless as it concentrated its attacks on the area in which it stood. Its vines cracked when they whipped against the granite, and for the moment it was trapped.

Este allowed himself to forget about the demon to turn his anger elsewhere. However, instead of aiming another retort to Pierre, the insistent tching of Vincent’s raccoon caught his irritation first. He focused on Vincent, throwing his tie to the ground just as the spider appeared on the young male’s back. Este swallowed his words and threw himself back into the hallway of the occupied demon and brandished his scimitar. Mango whizzed past Este’s face in attempt to pacify him, but whatever she tried to get across went unheard.

                              V-V-Vincent …! …! T-there’s… a …!!

Mango flew by Este again, and then over to Vincent and the spider the threatened his back. When she didn’t attack, Este’s uneasiness lessened and his blade lowered slightly. When she flitted by a second time, she made sure to fly by Vincent’s mist ring, prompting her master to the afterglow of his resolve. Sure that she had embarrassed Este, she fled back into the corner of the ceiling, tiny teeth hinting at her amusement.

Este tightened his grip on his scimitar as his face reddened, and he quickly turned away from Vincent and Pierre. He didn’t say anything and tried to ignore the jests of his peers by concentrating on the screams of the demon, which was beginning to find the use of its legs. Its yellow eyes gleamed in the lamplight as it caught sight of Este and retaliated with another whip of its vine-like arms. Este was ready this time and quickly ducked and rolled to the other side of the hall. Mango flew down from her perch and flew circles above Este’s head, anxious. From his peripheral vision Este saw the spider crawl past him with sickening speed. And even though he recognized it now to be an illusion, Este couldn’t help the shiver that ran down his spine.

Tired of her master’s distractions, Mango clawed gently into Este’s shoulder as she perched, driving Este from his fears – We’re not finished yet.

Este’s ring emitted a reddish tint as he refocused on the task at hand. As gently as if he petted a small kitten’s neck, Este stroked Mango’s head with the back of his finger. Given her cue, Mango took off and followed the spider’s path down the hall. While she distracted the demon, the spider diligently worked at creating a barrier of web. Thinking itself trapped, the antlered demon flung its vine arms at the illusion and the familiar, its screams reverberating desperately throughout the hall. Mango dodged and bit at the vines efficiently and easily, an elaborate dance she had played out many times before. By the time one of the demon’s tendrils hit the arachnid and caused it to disappear, it was already too late for the demon’s fate to change.

The web faded with the demon’s realization of the illusion. Mango took the opportunity to escape from the once perceived smaller area and back into the darkness of her cornice, her job done. The demon screeched again in fury as it prepared an all-out attack towards the three students; however, as the shrill voice of the demon held, it slowly transformed from vengeful to terrified. Its vines began to tangle wildly around itself, like leaves helpless in an unpredictable and powerful wind. One-by-one the vines that had been bit by Este’s familiar began to melt, dripping acidly to the floor of the hall. The sounds the demon made suggested to Este that it knew it was dying – high pitched shrills that feared death. Mango’s imbued storm flame bites swiftly corroded the vines, and it wasn’t long before they were no more, spare for one that sank pitifully to the ground. The demon’s tortured screams faded. Silence followed.

Este allowed himself to get comfortable at the sight of the disheartened demon, and his scimitar sagged in his hand as he turned to Pierre and Vincent. Just in time to miss the demon’s final attack.

Quick as its offensive barrage, the solitary vine whipped and found Este’s upper arm, serpentine limb twining and squeezing the male’s bicep. Este dropped his blade at the sudden pressure, gasped for breath when the vine slithered effortlessly along his shoulder and to the base of his neck. Its strength seemed to grow at the capture, and as it constricted Este’s throat and silenced his cries for help, began to grow new appendages that found bearings on Este’s other arm, his ears, his hair. Mango swooped down protectively in attempt to ward off the demon, but before she could reach a limb she was struck down, hard, into the ground. Este let out a strangled groan before he found the source of the attack through his blackening vision.

The demon’s constant cries must’ve been for more than just painful whines. Of course it would call for reinforcements. At the end of the hall, where the antler demon had first been found, stood another silhouetted figure. And while it didn’t share the appearance of the demon suffocating Este, the device at the three males’ wrists confirmed its being.

                              Another demon.

The mist user chuckled lightly, flashing Elias all his teeth in a Cheshire smile. As expected of the vice president! He wasn’t phased in the slightest by any attempt at riling him up. Still, he could at least look at little flustered for Jun’s sake. But nope, the other male was as cool as a cucumber. Too bad. If he had gone red, Jun would have seen if he could persuade a couple of people to visit their room late at night. Their other roommate might not appreciate it all that much, but Jun would have gotten a laugh out of it. Oh well, at least there was still a possibility of a party to throw-

"Also no, a bachelor party isn't my fore take - nor would I even dare to see a fellow classmate strip in front of me."

                                                          Tsk. What a downer.

                                                          "Although... “

Oh? Did the sword master have a thing for a teacher after all? That might be harder to swing, but hey, if all else failed there was always illusions.

“If you wish deem yourself worthy, I recommend for starters to hand over your so call playing cards."

                                                          Oh.

“Have to say, Elias, thought you were going in a completely different direction with that. Well,” Jun’s smiled turned sly as he reached up for his jacket’s zipper. He pulled it down teasingly before tossing the article onto the bottom bunk, leaving the top for Nico. “if you ever change your mind, let me know~ Ill happily find someone to do it. Or maybe I should do it myself. I hear it burns a lot of calories and certain people are always yelling at me to work out more.”

Jun gave Elias and look that was cross between offended and horrified. He clasped protectively at his thigh where his cards were located, safely tucked away in their holster, like an elderly woman and her pearls.

“Elias! How could you! You know I need my cards to protect myself! What would I do if something attacked us? Or someone? Not everyone here as nice as I am! Just a while ago, someone tried to turn my face to paste. I’d be defenseless. Not all of us can be sword masters, ya know”

It was amazing how many half-truths you could shove into a conversation. While those who paid attention would know that Jun’s primary weapon was in fact a card deck, it was actually an entirely different set that he used. He could use the playing cards, if he had too though. In theory anyways. It’s not like he ever had to try. He’d never faced a demon or monster who’s managed to get close enough to destroy more than one or two of his cards. And it’s not like he’d waste the energy on classmate. Most of the students had the embarrassing habit of advertising their movements.

Jun’s eyes darted to the window, firmly shut and locked. Wouldn’t be the best escape route anyways since they were all the way on the fourth floor. It wasn’t like he could jump and even if he could, he wouldn’t. That left the door, which was looking rather friendly as Elias approached with his swords. Jun has swords too. They just weren’t as pointy or three dimensional right now. So, yes, door was good.

“Come on Elias, I’m sure you’re a proper businessman! And everyone knows you don’t do business on an empty stomach! Makes people cranky. Cranky people aren’t good people. How about we talk after dinner?” Preferably when Nico was around to act as human shield.

Not waiting for an answer, Jun lunged for the door and headed for the stairs. Purple flames exploded between his legs as Fandonia decided this was the perfect time to manifest, tripping Jun just before the first step. He yelped as he slid down the first few on his rear before he managed to grab hold of the railing. Jun whined as he pulled himself up, rubbing his sore back.

                                                          “Why!?”

He didn’t get a response, only a flick of a purple tinged tail and what was definitely a smirk, no matter what anyone else said. He looked up to see if Elias was chasing, before grabbing and tucking the fox under his arm like a football.

“Quick! We have to hide! To the dinning hall!”

He managed to sneak out of the dorm building without getting caught and lose himself in the current of students who were all heading for the dining hall at the same time. Jun had forgotten all about the beginning of the year speech and grinned at his good luck. Nice! Now he just had to find a place to sit. He was about to wander over to one of the table when the back of his shirt was grabbed and he was yanked in the direction of a different one.

“Weren’t you paying attention on the boat? You’re supposed to sit with your flames tonight.”

Jun blinked in surprise as he recognize the voice of his fellow second year mist user. The other male didn’t let him go even after his explanation, instead dragging Jun with him like a misbehaving child. Which was actually an accurate description.

Jun blinked in surprise as he recognize the voice of his fellow second year mist user. The other male didn’t let him go even after his explanation, instead dragging Jun with him like a misbehaving child. Which was a fairly accurate description.

“I was distracted.” Jun replied with a bright smile as he was set down at a place sitting.

Hmmm. Jun was torn about this little game that the teachers had prepared for them. On one hand, it was an interesting idea. On the other, it seemed like a lot of work. But he followed the flow of the crowds to the hallway were the team register were hanging, fiddling with the b-rank ring on his finger. Paolo, Tavish, Julio, and Lucas. Well, he has no idea who Paolo as. Tavish, Julio, and Lucas were a different story. Well, they seemed competent enough to play this game without him. Off to take a nap!

Heading towards the dorms were probably a bad idea, he couldn’t be the only one planning on skipping out on the activity so the teachers were sure to be watching the area. So that meant hiding in the open. Well, there was bound to be a unlocked classroom somewhere. After ducking into an empty hall way, he fiddled with a couple of handles. Locked, locked, locked…

                                                          “Bene~”

The door swung open and a streak of silver came at him. He barely managed to jump back before the scythe cut through flesh. Jun stumbled a couple steps back, trying to get a better view of the monster hiding in the shadows of the doorway.

“Wow you’re an ugly thing.” He said with a laugh as the goblin like creature pulled his weapon out of the floor and…picked up a red leather pouch. Jun’s hand shot to his thigh, only finding his jeans. He’d been played. The monster was never aiming for him. “But smarter than you look.”

Well, looks like there was only one option than.

                                                          Jun turned and ran.

He turned down one corridor and into another. He glanced behind him, seeing the monster chasing after him. It was slower than him, thank god, but it was a persistent little b*****d and he was without a weapon. Facing forward, he spotted three familiar figures. Looks like Jun’s luck was kicking in.

“Get it! Get it! Get it!” He yelled as he sprinted past them, skidding to a stop only when he got a couple of feet behind the wall of tall. He leaned over breathing heavily. Looking up, he saw the fourth party member. The one he didn’t know. Huh, he hadn’t seen him behind the other three. Ah, where were his manners? Surely he hadn't left them behind with the goblin.“You must be Paolo. I’m Jun, piacere!”

After all that insidious, dastardly prank that Pierre had placed upon poor Este, it was pretty clear that the Segal Heir wasn't through with them with all the laughing that he had been doing as the two had fought off the agitated demon on their own, though Pierre had his reasons for not participating, mainly because he wanted to see how adept they were in situations like this, and though it did disappoint him a little, he was a little bit satisfied with the way things had turned out, though his smile faded as Este was soon caught by a vine from the antler'd monster

                                          "Tsk."

Pierre quickly stepped forward and drew the sheathed blade that was being held by both of his hands, sitting on the back of his shoulders, drawing a quick glint of metal, as Pierre suddenly became engulfed in a thin layer of flames they were pretty normal looking at first glance, but when one takes a closer look, it could be seen that he was suppressing a lot of his flames, but between with the irritated look of Pierre and the wave of power that engulfed around him as his sword was completely drawn, shining with a savage shine as the heir suddenly disappeared into a blur.

A streak of red and a rush of wind and silver crossed through the vine that was holding Este, shredding the demonic vine into pieces before the demon itself was torn and tossed around by a more streaks of red, the slashes and blurs all converged into one form that was Pierre...

"I don't like backstabbers...", He muttered as he flicked his blade unto the corpse of the demon, cleaning its blood from his blade, he then tilted his head towards the second demon that had arrived

                                          "Vincent...hold that one off..."

The heir then turned to Este and held out a hand for him, though at that point his cold demeanor had shifted into a rather giggling one, snickering at his ally's situation~

      • tab Whatever objections or applauds Tavish got from stripping down and redressing were entirely bypassed, the only thing left on his mind was getting to that swimming pool in time. Swim shorts hung loosely on his hips as the vest of a worn-down sweatshirt was tugged back on and each ferret found themselves nestled into different nooks to tag along. It was a rare sight to see Tav without his fuzzy little buddies, their rumps could locate all the nooks and crannies to rest within. With body suited up it was a quick wave to his roommates, a short farewell, and Tav was gone.

tab Fifteen minutes was all it took for Tavish to B-line across the courtyard and out to the schools designated pool. Though he enjoyed taking a swim in the nearby ocean as well, the school security tended to keep a pretty good eye on the few places you could get in. At least, in the daytime they did. Upon arrival it was a quick shed and an gawky dive into the pool, Korri remained in the pile of warmth left behind, whilst Mar waddled after his human and followed suit; more falling into the pool than diving. Rather than actually attempting to catch up to Tav, Mar strutted his own path through the water, always keeping an eye on his gangly human. Tavish, as well, kept to his own stream. Cutting through the water in an almost graceful fashion as he flipped at the long end to send himself rocketing back towards the start.

tab Two, three laps? He'd lost count by the time it hit. Slowly at first, just hitching his breath as the bits of summer began to leak in. By the end of the fourth he was dragging himself out of the pool and attempting to heave in breaths. Each one came slower than the one before it, heaving out of his chest like someone was punching him in the gut each time he tried. Korri was the first one too him, nudging at his shoulder until he sat up enough she could curl herself into his neck. Mar came up soon after, nuzzling into his knee until his breath finally caught. By the time it was gathered his entire body was shaking, fingernails were digging into the concrete beneath him.

tab There was no reason to deal with this right now. To deal with the havoc that was his summer vacation. Instead he focused on the good things that had happened. Spending time with Shaun again, stomping around the old home-front. Feel fractions of normal in a place that had been filled with chaos for so long.

tab Perhaps that was enough swimming for one day. Once he was situated enough he slid his body back into the pool. The marvelous back-float was his choice of stroke at the moment, Korri following after this time and climbing up on his stomach, making sure to keep herself close. It was only a couple more minutes of this until his heart fully slowed back to it's regular patter and he began to inch his way back to the edge of the large pool. Korri trekked the distance across his face to hop ashore before Tavish pulled himself up once more. With no idea of time he hurried only slightly. Drying himself off and scooping up the towel to head back to his room.

tab Upon his arrival to the dorm he found it empty and checked out the time. "[********]" He was going to be late. No matter how much he quickened his pace, it didn't matter. Shedding his clothes he hoped into the shower as quick as one could, washing off the chlorine before he assembled his uniform to head out. By the time he arrived in the mess hall, each ferret assigned to their own pocket, everyone was already seated and digging into their meal. The headmaster was stepping off the stage from his opening speech as Tav navigated the room to his group of storm users, finding a spot next to Este in order to catch up on anything he missed while simultaneously stuffing his face with anything and everything put before him.

tab Once fully satiated he lounged back in his chair, allowing Mar to finish off any remainders on his plate. Every now and then the ferret would venture past him and onto the table to gather more nutrients. Perhaps the little guy knew more of what was to come than Tavish and Korri did.

tab Headmaster up on stage once more Tavish actually managed to pay full attention. His interest highly piqued by the idea of getting to kick some demon a** his first day back. What a perfect ending to the shitstorm that had been his 'break'. A large grin upon his lips as everyone was excused to go and find their groups. It was a hop and a skip that lead him into the hallway to group up with his team. And what a team it was. Both Julio and Lucas he knew to be competent fighters. Julio a smidgeon on the lazy side -- not that Tavish wasn't at times --, and Lucas on the insane, superficial, bossy-a** side -- not that he'd actually seen him in combat before--. The little one, on the other hand, was someone new. He was pretty cute, with his freckles and the way he trotted a couple feet behind the other three. Their last member, Jun, was a no-show from the beginning, no surprise from the magic-wiz. Not quite the same fighting-spirit as Tav. He gave each a hello, as well as an introduction of sorts to the wee pale one, and as always Tavish managed to entirely ignore any form of personal space with any of his group. That was, except Lucas, whom he kept himself a polite distance from.

tab Trekking down the hallways was.. boring. The low beep that echoed behind him slowly dragging on his nerves as they itched for something, anything to show itself. When that small hand crept its way against his arm, where even there some freckles littered, he twisted his body and looked down at the lad. "Wha' was dat little laddy?" The second part was clearer, Tavish leaning over him and gently gripping onto his wrist to get a better, and closer, look at the device guiding this notion. Slowly but surely a grin began to spread as what was once boredom slowly sprouted into full on enthusiasm once more.

tab Digging into his pocket he pulled out Mar, giving the male ferret a quick peck on top of his head before dropping him to the ground and sending him own the hallway in a shuffle of his rump. That proud little chest puffed out and no fear showed in the small animals stride. Behind him lay a trail, invisible to the naked eye, but Tav's flames could follow it anywhere it went. At least, if he bothered to practice more. As it was, they went out about fifty feet in any direction, useful enough for now.

tab Footsteps were heard before he spotted him, and as soon as golden orbs layer eyes on Jun hauling-a** down the hallway Tav nearly broke into laughter right then and there. Luckily Jun missed Mar on his bolt behind them, the small Mustelid continuing on his ever-important journey. As the small goblin-like creature rounded the corner and bounded down the corridor after it's pray, seeming to speed-up once it spotted the new members of the party. The lack of new people being a deterrent only fed Tavish's excitement.

tab Little Mar finally came to a halt about twenty feet out, Tavish slamming his hands together in a loud 'clang' he waited -- for what felt like a life time -- until the demon made contact just a step or two before his little buddy. Both hands went slamming down to the ground and from them a spark darted across the floor. Loud and crackling it grew if fury and speed until finally it hit Mar, the small ferret erupting in crimson flames that threw the small goblin across the hallway and slamming into the wall. Though it fell to the ground, it didn't take long before the small thing was shaking it's head and starting to gather itself up again.

tab Tav took no time to stop and star, Mar already half-way back from his vacation was scooped-up on the way. With a glint in his voice Tav yelled back to his teammates. "Jun! Ya ********' gran luke!" And he meant it with every fiber of his being.

tab This was going to be ******** brilliant.

and why do you sing нαʟʟєʟuנαнif it means nothing to you
why do you sing with me at all?

[[ooc: This is probably terrible. I just figured one little gobbie was too little for a team of five! ]]

                                "Wha' was dat little laddy?"

Paolo tilted his head, taken aback by the strange and sloppy accent of the man whose attention he had caught. "What?" his mouth let the little syllable fall without thought, but it went unheard. Instead, the man moved closer and took hold of Paolo. It was a gentle grasp, but no matter the type of touch, it made little goosebumps rise on Paolo's forearm. He held very still, tilting his head away and down from the bigger boy, though his eyes did hazard an upward glance, timidly peering towards the giant from below white-blonde locks. When he was released, Paolo did not pay much attention to what the other did. He was too busy trying to forget the way the touch hummed on his skin. It was so strange.

“Get it! Get it! Get it!”

Paolo let out a small panicked gasp as he heard a boy yelling from somewhere in the not so distant distance. He pressed himself against the tall boy near him, then immediately fidgeted backwards and pressed himself against the wall. As he did so, he peered around, trying to crane his neck as far from the wall without his behind leaving its safety.

All he saw was a strange brunette. He tilted his head once more. What was he screaming abou-

“You must be Paolo. I’m Jun, piacere!”

"Oh," Paolo let out a little whimper. He clasped his hands together in front of him and looked down, giving a nod. "Mmhmm." was all he could manage though he wanted very much to ask the pretty brunet boy who he was.

Fortunately, his social faux pas would be excused, granted that there were demons about. That and his teammate seemed to have a penchant for explosives. Paolo heard the other boy yell out, something completely unintelligible (Did he call him a sort of fish? What in the world was going on?) There was not much time for the Italian child to grasp whatever was occurring. Something blew up, the red headed giant headed into the fray and he was left there next to their other teammates. Terror was upon him, only because he had no idea what was going on. Was someone hurt? His eyes set to the brunette that had run into them. He gave a scan. Gave another scan after that scan to make sure he hadn't missed anything. Then he looked back to see what was happening with the Red Head.

"What is that?" he asked out loud. It looked gross, but not terribly menacing. It was much smaller than Paolo had imagined. Did all demons look like that? No, he had seen images of others. Some of them had antlers, some had big silly teeth that made no sense, others had wings. Paolo's ears twitched. He thought he heard something. Oh! He was being so unhelpful in this fight, but, well, didn't this many students against one little goblin seem silly?

The string to his bolas were a thick metallic wire. Paolo pulled it taut between his finger tips as he unhooked his weapon of choice. It did not appear that the creature would be going anywhere, but Paolo could not think of another way to assist, and it did appear the goblin was getting up (Goblin! That was the English word!). With a few swift flicks of his wrist, Paolo was twirling the three stoned bola around and around, and with a bit of concentration, he managed to ignite a small flame of lightning through it. It pulsed green, letting bits of something like ghostly static crackle between the taut, fast spinning wires. The breeze around him seemed to spark and pop. Now the ends of his boladero was glowing a bright, sickly green. He let them lose. They passed, mere centimeters over the charging Red Head's shoulder. From his distance, Paolo could see the green static frizzle just at the tip of the other boy's hair. He smiled. Maybe he'd think of it as a tickle... or wouldn't notice. That'd be better.

The weapon blew past, slicing through the air like a blade, despite its weighted ends. It hit the target, to Paolo's delight, and the wires spun, spun around its legs. There was a whack as one weight hit the wall and the sparks flew, electrifying upward along the bricks and backlighting the goblin's skeleton in a magnificent display. It let out a gremlin like cry, but Paolo couldn't tell if had hurt it...

                                or made it angrier.

It levitated with the bola around it, though its little, gobliny arms were still free. At least that should slow it down, Paolo hoped, as he watched the Red Head finally come onto the thing and go in for a swing.

Lucee buzzed near his ear and Paolo thought he heard a whisper down the hallway. He glanced at the scene ahead of him: a half wrapped up goblin spool and a threatening stormy giant. There were ferrets in there somewhere, too, he was sure. And that brunette. And the other two giants. He bit his lip, glanced back down the hall, and edged away from his group. They could handle a goblin, no doubt, and if there was another demon coming, Paolo wanted to make sure he had an eye out for it. The meter tched once more. "Ah," he grabbed the brunette's sleeve this time as he reached back. "We might have more coming." Paolo unhitched his other bola in his free hand and watched the meter, until the dot was close and his eyes flickered upward. "Very soon."

Down the hall he could see a form, shrouded somehow. It made his heart stop because he was certain, very certain, that no girls went to this campus, and he hadn't seen much in the way of female facility. Just as one came into view, he saw another appear nearby. Just as that one stepped away from the intersecting hallway, coming to view, he saw one more. Paolo shook his head. "Should we call an adult?" he asked over his shoulder.
