I agree with you. Learning Chinese or Japanese can help you, but the most helpful thing learning Korean can do for you is job applications. But I doubt they will need somebody speaking korean.

I think its quite cool that a white with no intention of living in Korea would learn a langauge that isn't that popular.

Korean is better to learn than Japanese, in my view.
