"This place will do,.. " Sounded the snarky and annoyed voice, coming from a son of Rome. The youth was a few feet away from the opened door of the new Ludas, standing in a freshly cleaned home. His family had just occupied this place, fearing for the slave rebellion and thus moving closer to the city of their home lands. His parents tried to be closer, alas no matter how much ties to the republic they had, nothing spoke louder then coins and that they lacked. Gladiator school was their business and thus every coin went to the training of their 'students'. Slaves was the proper term in his family however to the republic they were gods of the arena, high above men and closer to reach the gods then anyone else. They trained here for months at a time, barley surviving until they received the mark and once that was bestowed upon their flesh then they would be the whispers of the town. There was no greater honor for a slave then that, minus being a freedman but those men were even more so rare. After all it was only done by manumission or emancipation.

In his own family there had only been a few to be given a title of a freedman and the honor of having manumission given to them. Most of them were Gladiators who won over the crowed or some who were so loyal to the family that they were given a proper role. Of course none of this happened in his life time, not that he could remember so. Plus he hoped it would never happen as his family could not risk being thought of a weak in the heart. Not in a new city such as this or a new housing as this. Speaking of such he had to admit that the slaves had done a decent job of cleaning up the place thus far. It almost appeared to be a proper place to live. ' Still the ladies will be annoyed when they get here,' He thought while rolling his eyes as he walked further in to the ludas. he knew not of were his siblings nor the ruler of the house currently was, however he felt more at ease this way. He would rather be alone then listen to the on chatter of them, always about trying to be higher in the eyes of Rome. Truth be told be would be happy just taking over this house, this life, however it was more dangerous then ever to be here now.

There was a war, a rebellion of slaves that was starting up. The out cry's of the slave population could be heard with a roar once the first arena fell, and ever since then their family had been on edge. They were so scared of their own slaves turning on them that a few were sentences to death at even a whisper of betrayal. Thus far three female's and two gladiators had been sent to the mines or the pits for such talk. One however was given special treatment, a foolish man who came off the boat from Gaul. He was so defiant, which was normal for new slaves but it was the wrong time to be threatening. They crucified him in front of the gladiators and made his body stay out for three days, forcing the slaves to train. Personally he had no idea how they handled the smell of the rotting flesh nor the screams of the man. The sounds of his bones snapping even got himself, not being able to watch anyone train until the stench went away. Maybe it was a good thing they moved,.. Now he would never get to see that spot again.

"Sabeen!" He suddenly yelled out, calling for one of the slaves. " When is Adrastia coming? She should be here by now. " He said while glancing over towards the young slave girl. She was a Syrian girl by blood however she had been with the family for as long as he could remember. It was almost as if he had grown up with her, along with a few other slaves in the house. Normally he would have been more kinder in speaking to her because of this, however her feelings was the last thing on his mind. His sister Adrastia was joining them,.. He had only met her as a child but she was taken away to the beloved city of Rome. Something about learning to be a proper lady and have a better chance of marrying in to an elite life.

                                                    " Apologies,"

Another voice caused the youth to turn his head towards the back of the hall. Standing there was Nied, a youth who lived in the east of Rhine in his past but was another slave who was caught early. He supposed he grew up with both of the slaves in the room. He was mostly in charge of attending the gladiators by handing out their weapons and even helped with minor healing. Besides that he knew as much as he did of Nied as he did of Sabeen. Nothing. " Are the champions settled in?" He asked while raising his eyebrow at the youth. They had the gladiators arrived this morning, by carriage and horse. He was sure that they would all be in a prissy mood as the travel was a long one. He could already see Viridorix ranting about it. When he received a nod from Nied. he couldn't help but to shrug his shoulders." Have them unchained now and give our champion his new room. That should regai his favor with us." He said before turning away to continue walking around the ludas. There had to be someone interesting other then slaves here.

The market place parted ways as two figured were walking side by side, causing people to move with a quick speed and watch in awe. The first figure was known well in this town from her appearance alone as she was the wife of a high born. A noble Roman who was currently away on business with the war. She was told that he was going to work side by side with the great Marcus Licinius Crassus, one of the riches men in Rome. All of the republic for that matter. Her heart was beaming with pride over such news as surely this would gain the political words favor even more. They were already high on the map as far as the Roman elite were concerned however they had to keep their name. Going to war and being victorious would surly gain them some favor and bring her husband much honor. Although her husband was well known , she herself was also in high estate of a family name. She was related to the deceased Senator Albinius and cousin to Ilithyia and cousin-in-law to her husband Gaius Claudius Glaber. With those in her blood line she was surly the talk of Rome, most for fear of their blood line being cured. Personally she didn't think such a thing was possible, and thought it more of her elite family being too rich to think clearly. Not that she would say such things in public.

The other person walking beside her was a tall make wearing armor that gave away his title. Anyone who ever went to a single battle would know his male as he was a true warrior on the battle field. He was a Centurion, one of the highest class of warriors in Rome there was. To the people of Rome he may have been a solider, but to any true son of Rome who went to battle would know better then to think in such simple terms. The man was named Duilius, a male past his prime and no youth left in his eyes. His eyes gave away a tiredness that could only be read by others but there was a spark there. Something that screamed that he would lay down man who dared pick up a sword to him. "Ma'am you have to calm your steps. " He said with a hint of boredom in his voice. Honestly he had no idea why he was having to watch over the wife of his hire. He should have been in the war, fighting to rebels or something else then this.

" My husband may be away to fight some slave war but I am not his caged bird, now let me walk without appearing as target. You already are more suffocating then Jupiter c**k on any idiot maiden. It's already odd enough that my bodyslaves are not with me." Sylva whispered as she gave a minor glare towards the other. "Shopping with men for cloth and proper jewelry is not fitting enough for anyone, and the poorest. You all tend to lack certain taste, " She explained while pausing at a small merchant's cart. There seemed to be a large amount of personal items in the market tonight, although she could not help but to notice the food was lacking. A lot of the grain and rice sellers were low, more so then usual. She had heard rumors of Spartacus and his army attacking the city of Sinuessa but she had hoped it to be false. Alas the proof that the whispers were true were becoming all to clear now. "Give him 36 denarius for that neck-less and nothing more. " She said before turning her back away from the negotiation.

" Hm?" As she turned there was something which got her attention, a cargo of some kind with roman flags raised in the air. There was also a fair amount of gaurds around it. As the cargo grew closer she could tell that someone was inside of it, peering threw the red silk. The figure was someone who she knew fairly well, a young woman of Rome." Adrastia!" She called out as she raised her left hand to wave, hoping to gain attention. The cart stopped and allowed the woman known as Adrastia to be let out. The young woman hadn't aged a day since she last saw her in Rome." Adrastia what in the gods name's are you doing here? This is no place for a proper daughter of Rome." She said before giving the younger female a peck on the cheek as a friendly gesture.

As she pulled back to look at the other female, a smile could only grace her lips." By the gods though it is assuring to see such a familiar face and to be with a woman now, My husband has been forcing this brute to stand by my side all day and all." She explained while pointing over to Duilius who appeared just as miserable as she did. Two of a kind really." We must celebrate ! Now were are you off too young one? Are the rumors true that you are being allowed home?" She asked with a kind voice, now walking by the other girls side, wanting to hear of tales and such of her day.

"How long will they make us wait? " Came a rather annoyed groan from within the slave chamber's. In the depths of the new Ludas was the cages were the slaves were being held in, as the family started to settle down. They had been in the darkness with only small fire lit on the side of the walls, only having oil keep them lit. If a strong wind blew or one of the guards felt being cruel then they would be sitting in nothing back darkness. There was several cells in the hallway, all lines up near each other. Everyone in them could see everyone, eye to eye and even some as close as the bodies could be. Some had more of a privilege then others, being in less crowded cells. Most of the less crowded one's were filled with the champions of the house, the one's who had lasted years of fighting in the area. Or some who were not scene too much. The one who was groaning away was such one, being a female of the arena. A Gladiatrix. They were rare to have and even more rare to see fighting in the sunlight. Most were forced to fight in the darkness for their rarity as they forced the crowed to cheer with such lust and sheer joy. Some thought it was vile to have such sexes be in the games however at the end of the day if a fight was good then it will continue.

And she wanted it to continue. Vistilia was no ordinary woman, not a daughter of Rome nor one of any proper background. She was tough as any male who fought by her side and proved it on the sands each time she fought. The woman was a master of the Retiarius Fighting style, throwing spears at others who were caught in her fishermen web. It was a new style of fighting, still the crowd certainly enjoyed seeing it and she was happy to give them blood. Because of this fighting style and her beauty, the crowd often nicked named her a daughter of Neptune. Or some lesser rumors said that she was blessed by the sea god for no one else fought in such a way. However that was too the crowd as they could only see what they wanted, a fighter who was higher then any mortal men or women. If they saw her trying to fight with swords though then they would have thought twice if she was anything blessed. The poor thing was awful at it, unlike most of her fellow gladiators. Throwing spears was easier but not anything to boost about. All she truly had was a natural born talent for one fighting style.

Still despite this she was honored by most of the others as she had fought along side these men and woman for years now. Truth be told a part of her had given up on trying to buy for her freedom. Dying by the sands was an honorable way to go and to send someone off. The actions of late though did stir her mind though,.. Not that she would ever voice them out loud. She was hard headed but not an idiot. The past few days have been nothing but bloodshed for any traitor slave with a wiggling tongue. "And how long will the gods curse me as I surly have angered them. Spending time with you lot all day and night with no wine or blood is a curse." She explained as she looked straight across to another cell which caged a few of the more loyal gladiators. Her eyes landed mainly on Viridorix, the champion of the house. He fought bravely last month and had won his battles with such honor. The entire team had gotten wine and whores for weeks straight because of his coin but alas all things came to an end. And now the end was here, sitting with these smelly men in a cage with no light.

"Your paying coin of wine for us after this right Viridorix?" She asked with a amused smile growing on her face. Before she got an answer though the cell doors started to open one by one, thanks to the guardian of them; Nied. The lad have given them their key's to unchain their hands and feet, and started to tell them to go out in to the new training yard. When it Vistilia's turn she couldn't help but to give the German youth a light smile before jumping up, and started to stretch herself out. "Ah that's better, " She explained after she was done stretching, only to walk ahead with the others. She wanted to see this new place, wanting to know what the training school would appear as now. It took them ten minuets to arrive there from the cells and what she saw did not disappoint. The wall around the Ludas was large, making it seem impossible to get threw, minus the gates that was large enough for horses to enter threw. There was already training equipment set up, and even the wooden sword boxes had been placed outside already.

Her eyes landed over towards the men with a smirk growing on her face. "Not a bad new place to fall on your asses to my trident eh?" She asked with a hint of jest in her voice.

Traveling she hated it, the travels took too long and everything was uncomfortable. At least she didn’t have to walk anywhere on her own, but everything was lonely and it was too hot out for her tastes right now. The only person she cared to even speak with was Cato, her one and only gladiator she bought with her own coin against council of many people. It was almost a secret, to other that did not need to be in her business she told them he was a gift from a man, but that was not the truth. He was her slave and he fought for her and listened to nobody else, just like it should be. Adrastia was not one to trust slaves or even gladiators, and even less with the rumors and the revolts going around. That there was another reason she did not want to be on the road, those savages would attack anything that moved, but at least she was guarded and had Cato with her. Strangely she trusted him, but that trust was not a far reach.” I finally come home and it isn’t even my own home.” the irritation dripped from her words as the daughter of Rome complained for the millionth time on that ride. Peeking out from her curtains to see that they were coming up upon the market place, they wouldn’t even let her get out and stop, not that she wanted too right now. Shopping was very temping for a woman but what was even more tempting was a hot bath and some wine. There was always the nice add on of seeing her family too.

Adrastia had been shipped off at a young age of about five, to go learn her part in life. She’d killed her mother during birth and so that woman wasn’t there to teach her anything, about the ways of a woman and running a house hold and everything else she should be doing. Adrastia refused to let common slaves teach her any of that and every woman they brought into the house went out running from her terror the next day. The last option was to be sent off to some grand location, and that was that. Sure while away she learned the proper knowledge and also much more. She wasn’t one for sitting around in the shade all proper and eating grapes while being fanned, that was nice an all but she wanted to be in the action. Watch the gladiator battles and be a part of the dirty work. Secretly she’d been having Cato train her, and that wasn’t about to stop when she arrived at the Ludas.” Stop!” snapping a sharp command, swearing by the god she had heard her name, but how would that even be possible here? Nobody was going to meet her out here that was in a letter already. Pulling back the curtains her eyes coolly scanned the area until they landed on a figure that looked over joyed and happy to see her. It only took a few seconds to realize who the woman was and she let a smile slip to her lips. Getting out of the cargo and stepping into the outside world for the first time in what could have been hours.

”Sylva! A face I did not expect to see here.” walking over to the woman with her arms open, returning the quick pecks. She hadn’t seen the woman in years but would never forget a face such as that, no matter how young she’d been.” Passing through to another destination.” Pulling back slightly now to look up at the woman, some company would be nice, female company at that. Adrastia wasn’t one to get along with female all the time but I didn’t mean she did not enjoy their company from time to time. Hearing footsteps start to come up behind her, she kept her ears pealed while paying attention to Sylva’s words. She knew it had to be Cato, so she gave him a small sign saying to stand back. ” You poor thing.” pouting ever so slightly and looking over the woman’s shoulder to where she was pointing, keeping her eyes on Duilius for a few seconds before returning her gaze back to the woman in front of her. I am returning home, long overdue. Our family has a ludas here now, do come home with me.” turning back towards her own group of guards she quickly went into command mode. ” I was told the ludas is not far, is that correct? I will be walking so go without me and deliver my stuff. I will take Cato with me so do not try and stop me.” staring each of them down so they would leave. The guards were dare not disobey her orders and in front of people in the open. Adrastia would have had them all killed there for such a display, luckily for them it didn’t come to that.

” Come talk to me as we walk, what has been going on as I have been away?” Sliding her arm around Sylva’s as they began to walk through the marketplace together. She’d heard things while away, but it was always better to hear other sides from different people, especially ones so familiar. ” The place was awful and so boring. I swear it felt like the gods were punishing me.”The ludas was not far off but, with the talk and gossip it did take them longer to arrive. The thought made her laugh, whoever was home would have to be wondering why her things were there but she was not. ” You there!” Adrastia waved her hand towards a female in obvious slave garb as they entered the home. She looked timid but quickly turned and gave a short bow. Without giving the girl any time to reply, she went straight into barking orders. ” Send for my brother and while you are at it, wine.” Looking around the home, this place would do for now.” Shall we explore and find a nice place to sit?” She’d been sitting for so long, a nice exploration would be some much needed entertainment, until all the formalities were over.

The smell of fresh air was the last thing on Leon’s mind. It was nice that he no longer had to smell that decaying body but with time he had managed to block out some of the smell. At this very moment his mind wondered on to the past. He could not help but to think about his sister and everything that lead him to that Ludas. That old place had so many memories and a bit of him was glad to be away from it. In all honesty he hoped that the day he left the place was the day he either would be a freeman or a rebel. Seeing that his Dominus did not like to give people their freedom the second one seemed like the best option. He knew the layout of some of the home and knew his training ground by heart. It was his fake little piece of home. It held good memories and bad memories. The good memories came from spending time with his friends while the bad were linked to having to deal with the Romans and their stupid ways. The parties were a pain in his side and having to deal with the Roman women was even worse. Every time that he was done dealing with them he would go off and train to keep his cool. With the move he figured he would be training a bit more. They were not close to the rebel army and that meant he would be stuck here for a longer time. It was not like he would ever voice his hatred, he was no fool. This pent up anger needed to be let out in some way. Maybe he would sleep with some woman tonight or maybe he would just train until he dropped.

As much as he trained it was surprising to some that he was not champion of the house. In all honesty he did not want that title. If he ever achieved that he would be sick to his stomach. A champion in the Roman’s eyes was too much for him to think about. He just preferred to fight and stay at the position he was in. He may not get all of the benefits but he got enough to know that he was happy. Right now being locked up was not making him happy. It took him back to the days when he was forced to stay in the cage and hearing people complain was starting to wear on him. The long ride was hot enough and he wished that some of these people would have taken a bath. The smell of a rotting corpse was way better than the smell of some of these people. He was starting to wonder just when was the last time they took a bath. Do to his state of mind he was not looking like his normal self. He glared at anyone that tried to talk to him and retreated back to his own personal thoughts. Vistilia’s comment caused a twisted smirk to appear on his face. He had zoned in on one of her major words and that word was blood. The moment he got into the arena he would take his anger out on whoever they put up against him.

He allowed his head to lay back and he gazed around in the darkness. A bit of him wondered just how he managed to be put in a room with people he was somewhat okay with. He had no idea when he was going to be allowed out of this crap cell so he figured it would be best to take a nap. Just as his eyes were closing the sound of doors opening caused him to sit up more. It looked as if Nied was coming to set them all free. If there was one person he was happy to see it had to be Nied. He took the key and undid his chains and rubbed his wrist. He hated being in those chains but the Romans needed to feel safe. He did not waste any time in following the group out into their new training area. It was time for him to get use to his new home. There was no telling just how long he was going to be in this place for. Once he was outside he took in everything. This place seemed well protected and that was understood, especially with everything going on. If anyone tried to run away they would be a fool. He looked over at the equipment that was left for them and his body started to relax.

Finally he would be able to train and get some of this tension out of his system. He looked over at Vistilia when she started to talk. She could be such a cocky person at times and it did not bother him. She had earned the rights in his eyes. “Only the weak ones will fall to your trident. The rest of us will bring you to your knees.” He flashed her a quick smile before he started to look around again. He moved around and got a feel for the new grounds. It was nice but he would have been way happier if he could have been somewhere else. He looked over towards the other gladiators, “So who is going to be the first person to break in this training ground.” A bit of him was in the mood to fight but he did not mind sitting back and watching the others go at it. “It is a shame that today a lot of you all will be accustomed to the ground of this place than anything else.” He knew who the weak ones in the group were and if they tried to go first he would just push them back. Watching them lose would be very entertaining.

Decius had sent his wife and son on ahead of him. He wanted to travel with his adviser and a few other men who were in charge of the fights. To think Decius would not want to make sure his gladiators won such an important fight would be a laugh. He wanted to have only the best gladiators and slaves within his grasp, and having his gladiators going into the fights for such an important occasion was just not on. He had invited three of the more important men to ride with him in his carriage where he began his practiced speech of how the fights would go and who would get which weapon. The men were all to eager to help Decius with his plans when the man had promised them the use of his prized personal slave Zephyra. She was his ace in the hole, a beauty among garbage. She was one of his most useful bargaining chips and he's be an idiot not to use her to his whims.

He grinned at the men sitting opposite him, "So it is clear? These fighters will be getting the weakened and blunted weapons while my gladiators will receive proper fighting form spears and arrows and daggers." He glanced from one man to the next, waiting for their nod of approval before he swept up the scroll he'd written on. He leaned forward and flicked open the door to the oil lamp and lit the scroll on fire. He would never dare to leave an evidence behind of the things he was doing.

He leaned back in his lush seat, sighing with an eager grin on his face. He picked up his goblet of wine, taking a long pull before setting it back down. "Tonight men, we will celebrate, be merry, and give thanks to Bellona and seek her guidance in the crushing of Spartacus and his armies," he stated, his voice resonating within the carriage he rode in, the other men cheering to him as well.

Decius stopped in the market place to drop the men off before continuing onto his home away from home. He was expecting his family to have arrived already. He settled back into the satin seats, a large grin on his face as he planned out the night. He was lost in thought until he felt the carriage give a jolt and then stop. He pulled back his curtain and glanced outside and saw he'd arrive at the grand home. He allowed the footman driving him to open his door before he stepped down. He took in the sight before him, white marble stretching across a grand entrance. Oh yes, he would be quite happy here.

He swept up his robes and strode into the house, paying no heed for the moment to the slaves milling around him, serving him as he ordered. He moved into the house further and saw the back of some female. He smirked, walking up to her, "Slave, I am in need of wine and dinner, go now and prepare both" he demanded, holding himself with an air of superiority. He looked around the room, frowning slightly, "Where is my wife and my son, they should be here," he demanded, turning his sharp gaze to woman he was addressing.

The ride to this place had taken forever and she was just glad to finally be able to stretch her legs. She had grown use to her old home and was glad for a change of scene. It was a bit of a shame that her husband was not riding with her. It did not really bother her; it gave her more room to breathe. Sometimes she felt as if he was suffocating her. It was not that she did not love him; saying that she loved him would be pushing it. She loved how he carried himself; she loved how he acted and how brutal he could be. His coldness was something she was use to and that fact that he had power kept her close and warm at night, especially on those nights when he decided to screw a slave. On those nights everything that she loved about him went out the window. There was no power in the world that would make her touch him until he was clean. How he could ever find pleasure in those low lives was beyond her knowledge. It was not like she was going to leave him because of that. He was too interesting to let go off but she did have her way of getting back at him. It was not her fault if some of the slaves he screwed became sick and never recovered. He had himself to blame for that but she would never tell him that. It was her dirty little secret.

As she moved inside her new home she looked over some of the rooms but most of her attention was on the slaves. She really wanted one of them to screw up so that she could have some fun with them. That long ride had been rather boring and she needed something to do to pass the time. At last, all of the slaves were behaving well and she would have to wait until later. If her husband happened to find one slipping she would enjoy watching him punish them. That was always a fun thing to do when she had nothing to do. She always watched with a bored look on her face because sometimes she did not want him to know that she was enjoying it. The last room that got most of her attention was her new bed room. Her eyes went right over to the bed and she was glad that it was big. The size would help for those nights that she wanted to stay far from him. The space between them would give her enough time to move if he tried to do anything. Everything seemed to be in order and the only thing left was for her to greet her family as they came in.

She loved Ved almost as if she had given birth to him. Due to the age difference between them, it could never be true. She loved him anyway because there was something twisted inside of him. She could never pin it but one day she would. He was one of the people that she could not wait to see but someone else replaced him. Today was going to be the first day that she meet Decius’s daughter. She had not really heard much about her; all she knew was that she was sent away. It was hard to write to someone she knew nothing about. After nine years with him she still did not know much about his daughter. So today was important day for her. She wanted to make a good impression but at the same time she wanted to see if this girl was worthy of being called her daughter. There was no way she would spend time around a weak Roman. She had seen some of them before and hated dealing with them. She would hate to have to treat his daughter in a cold way but it was not in her nature to be around weak people. There was no sense in troubling herself with those kinds of thoughts, in due time she would met her. Before she spoke to anyone she needed to change clothes. She needed to look her best and these clothes would not do.

Once she had her outfit picked out she started to change only to be interrupted in the process by Sabeen. Sabeen was one of her favorite slaves to have around. The girl still needed some training and she was sure with time she would be perfect. The happy frame of mind that she was in went away when Sabeen said that Decius and others were in the house. She waited until her clothes were on before she went over to Sabeen. The calm look in her eyes was slowly fading away, “What do you mean you think. It does not even matter because I could have sworn that I asked you to get me before his daughter got here. I wanted to be among the first people she saw. How do you think that looks that I am no where around, especially since there is a guest among them.” Without any warning she hit Sabeen, “Do you know how that makes me look? I don’t think you really do.” She gripped Sabeen by the neck and glared at her, “I look like a classless woman.” Now it really was not Sabeen’s fault, in all honestly how could she predict that the girl would get there early. If Maria had been waiting in the front of the house she could have been there to greet her but she needed to look around first.

A bit of her wanted to snap Sabeen’s neck but she stopped herself. She removed her hands and looked her over, “Get rid of the blood on your lip. I don’t want you to mess up my image anymore than you have.” She waited until Sabeen looked orderly and then made her way out to greet the rest of the family and their guests. It did not take her long to reach the room that everyone had gathered in. The anger that she had was well bottled up and she would get Sabeen back later. She looked over at her husband and had to admit that he looked nice today. “It is good to see that you have arrived safely, Decius.” She moved away from him and turned her attention towards Sylva. It had been a while since she last saw the woman. She looked wonderful in her clothes, “Sylva it is a pleasure to see you again.” Her attention moved away from Sylva and over towards a lady she had not met before. She was not dressed like a slave so that meant she should be treated with respect. A bit of her wondered if this was someone that Sylva brought with her. The not knowing is what bothered her the most. Either way she would treat the lady with respect until she saw that did not deserve it. “I do not believe that we had the pleasure of meeting before. My name is Maria Zoroastres and what is your name?” She hoped that this was not another high ranking Roman. Dealing with one was enough; two would just mean that they were moving up in the world. The fact that she did not get to greet them would bother her to no end. She made sure to stay close to her husband’s side.

Zephyra had been sent ahead of Decius and his family with a few other slaves. Their carriage was cramped and jolted severely with each hole it hit on the road to the Ludus. She, like the others, kept quiet for the ride. There had been tensions rising within their stations, and no one wanted to chance being outed by a traitor. All any slave wanted was favoritism and freedom, both of which could offer a brighter future. Zeph wasn't too well liked among the other slaves that served Decius' family given his penchant for calling on her and treating her differently. She did not try to argue her stance to any of the other slaves, because really, she was in the same boat as them. She hated what she was forced to do, and she would fight until the bitter end for her freedom as well as every other slave's freedom. She had sent out yet another work written by Atticus the previous night, and it should soon be whispered about in her chambers by those surrounding her. She kept her head ducked the entire way, her hands fiercely clutching her journal beneath her robes. It was the one thing she would guard with her life. If anyone would ever find it and share it she would surely face a fate worse than death.

She had no idea how much time had lapsed since they had left, but the carriage had finally pulled to a stop. The driver didn't even bother with letting them out, one slave taking it upon herself to do the honors. Zeph said nothing by way of thanks, taking her leave to head into the Ludus and to where she would be staying. She needed to find a place to hide her journal, and the sooner she could do so without prying eyes was best. She ducked down a marble staircase, following couple slaves into what would be their quarters. She took a small room towards the very back where she was likely to get less foot traffic and quickly set to work prying at the stones on the floor. It was easy to find a loose one and that was where she made a new home for her lambskin journal. She stood from the floor, looking quickly to make sure no one had seen her and hurried back up to the main floor of the house.

Her initial task, until Decius arrived, was to assist in the preparation of food for the night. She moved through the building until she found the kitchen where a bustle of activity was already underway. She drew in a deep breath and inserted herself into the fray, doing anything that was demanded of her. Zephyra knew her place, and when other slaves snapped at her, she just let it roll of her shoulders, knowing that if they were in a more private setting she would have given the woman a piece of her mind, but as it were, she had enough to worry about. A feast day for some Roman goddess meant that Zephyra would more than likely be used at night and expected to show certain guests a good time. She shivered at the thought, and suddenly the kitchen felt like too much. She grabbed the nearest tray laden with food and drink meant for the gladiators who would fight in the Zoroastres' name.

"Excuse me, I will take this to the gladiators," she offered, making a quick exit, shaking off the feeling of being suffocated in a room busy with people. Zephyra breathed as she walked, following the noises of the rowdy fighters back down to where she had come from, their quarters cramped and dirty. Zephyra once felt uncomfortable among the strong and imposing figures, but soon learned to keep her spine stiff. "The Dominus and Domina have sent you nourishment to keep your strength for the fights, please eat and drink," she called out, setting the tray down and taking a step back, intending to stay and bring the tray back once it was empty and also to stall for time and keep from seeing Decius.

This had to be the longest of walks he had ever taken in his years of this earth. Even the gods were laughing at them as the sun was glowing in the day, burning every amount of flesh that was under it. He could feel the sunburn on his skin growing worse after ever second. Even with protective cloth on his body it wasn't enough. He sore he could even feel his feet blistering up as he each step further towards their destination. The only thing that made his journey possible was the fact that he was on a mission to protect his Domina. She was being forced to return home from the great city of the capital and now she was here, a place not too far but far enough that even a slave could tell the difference. The builds here were not as grand as the one's he saw, nor the statues being as lovely or large. The people were dressed as common folk, and rarely did he see silks on the woman nor their god like jewelry. Even some of the slaves were dirty, having an appearance of not washing for weeks. It seemed that it was mostly family folk, buying items for their loved ones or food to survive. A part of him wondered how she would do here, however he knew the girl to be stronger then she looked.

The only reason he had decided to fallow so closely by her was because of the rumors of the slave rebellion. It was said that some man named Spartacus was gathering up several slaves, including gladiators, to start a war with all of Rome. The man was once the bringer of rain, hope to the city and now he was the symbol of death to all Romans. It was amusing in a way. A part of him though it was curious however he would never join the man's army. If it meant war on all Romans then he could never do so. Even the thought of killing Adrastia was enough to cause rage for a few seconds. If anyone ever laid their hands on her then he would destroy them, slice them were they stood. And he has before. The young girl was the reason he still could breath air in his lungs and he would never forget. A day would not go by that he would ever repay the young girl back for her kindness, but still he tried. He would obey any order that she would give and strike down anyone would dare hurt her.

Suddenly a voice rang out, calling out his Domina's name, and causing him to stop in his tracks with the rest of the slaves. His eyes watched with mild amusement as another female walked towards them in a hurry. He knew the other woman as a wife of a Livius Maximus , a Roman man of wealth and power in the army. He never spoke to them as there was no need to, but he had listened to them prater on for hours several times at the gatherings of Roman elite. " Sylva," He muttered, now remembered the woman's name. There was formalities being given now, a huge Roman custom of trying to be polite to all of higher power. His eyes then landed on Duilius, who seemed to be as bored as he was while watching the females speak to each other, plus the eyes that never left their side. It seemed that the solider would kill anyone for that other woman as he would for his Domina. He ended up taking a few steps forward, wanting to be closer just encase something were to happen. Even if the market place appeared nice, he knew better. Danger lurked everywhere. However his Domina gave him a sign to stay bause, causing him to quickly stop in his tracks and bow his head lightly. The orders came quickly though, as he listened as she spoke to the guards. He was to escort her to the Ludus, keeping no more then three steps behind her. His hands were clenched the entire time, wanting to make sure that everything would be running smoothly and that the gods did not want to play any games of fate. He hated their games. Lucky for them though it seemed that the gods were away and they made it to the Roman household with ease.

A part of him was amused by his Domina, ordering a slave girl to find out were her brother went. He had almost forgotten that she had a brother. " Dom-" He was about to ask if she wanted him to put her items in proper order, mainly her weapons to hide here, however new voices arrived in the home. Just then a male who was older had walked in, at first he appeared to be harmless however then he spoke. Those words of ordering around his Domina?! ' By the gods,' He thought while narrowing his eyes at the man. The youth ended up taking a few steps forward, acting on pure instinct as he wanted to cut this mans tounge out. However lucky for him he was brought back to his senses when feeling his Domina's hand on his own, causing him to stop and lower his head again. He knew that touch and knew that she would understand his feelings towards this being. It was a good thing too as his actions would have caused his life for attacking a man in such standing. With annoyed ears he listened as another woman by the name of Maria Zoroastres walked in and introduced herself.

It was all their doing, Spartacus and his band of rebels that were taking over towns from the shadows. The reason their old home was now burnt to the ground and the reason the entire family packed up and moved closer to Rome. There were fewer slaves and brother and sisters of the sand during this move. Before they left the Dominus had all the traitors tied to stakes and burnt them down with the old ludus. Years of tradition and blood on that sand gone in mere minutes. He could still hear the screams of the ones who betrayed the house, but they didn’t haunt him. He had seen enough blood and death in his life time, caused many screams of his own to be affected by it anymore. It was a part of his life even before he had been captured and forced into captivity and soon after been trained into a gladiator. It hadn’t taken long before he rose in the ranks of his brotherhood and became the champion of house Zoroastres. Then that brought him here, right where he was in the damped and darkened group of cells.

He had gotten one of the bigger cells with nobody else inside the cage with him, at least as of yet. He couldn’t wait until the family settled in and then the slaves would be moved to their own permanent locations. He was already missing his small in closed room that he had occupied at their old place. In closed, warm and privacy from the others and all the wine he could buy with his coin and an endless amount of women he could ********. The situation right now wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle, the small fire that was burning gave little light and dared to go out with each slightly breeze that it battled. If he went out it didn’t matter either way to him, he enjoyed being in complete darkness, it was a soothing affect, but the others around him wouldn’t put up with it. He could almost hear the complaints already. In fact he already was. "You do not stray from your womanhood.” chuckling about and letting his voice break the dark silence, the only other sounds was the rattling chains that were still holding each gladiator and slave. Attempting to yank his arms apart but abruptly being stopped as the length of the chain reached its end. He would feel much better if her was unchained and could at least relax without the digging of iron in his skin.” Complaints reach deaf ears.” Smirking at the female across the way, faintly being able to see the outline of her body through the dim lightening.

Opening his mouth to answer Vistilia, he shut it again, watching to see who was entering the chambers. One had to be careful what they said especially in these times. His words were not going to be too kind on the right ears. Seeing it was Neid made him rather excited and thankful, if he cared about the gods he’d be thanking them. Pushing himself up of the dirt covered stones; he turned his attention back to the female and anyone else listening in. Hushing his voice just slightly so the guards could not hear them. ” Tainted coin with no honor, is what shall buy wine tonight.” he was starting to notice his battles were less then honorable on the sand and rather felt then getting boring.” My talent goes to s**t, as the Dominus rigs the games. I hear rumors about.” Viridorix wasn’t for certain if it all was true, and he wasn’t going to pry, but if the words he heard held truths, Dorix would hold a small hatred in every game he would fight in. When Neid finally arrived in front him he smiled at the younger male, holding out his hand. ”You are a welcomed sight.” It would be a lie, if he said he didn’t want to be out and see the new location. Doing a few quick stretched before he left his cell, Dorix took his time in joining the group as they travel up into the sun and fresh air.

Reaching the sands, he quickly took in everything around him, the grand structures and all the equipment that was already laid out. One person he expected to see was not there yet which was surprising since they had training to do before the games that night. ” It looks like we start without Doctore.” walking straight towards the equipment, and grabbing his swords, he felt complete again, flipping the swords around before walking back towards the center of the sands. Over hearing the jesting, he could only laugh while turning to face Leon. ” Why not start with and actual challenge, then you can get bored with the weak.” Smirking towards the male, Leon was someone he enjoyed being able to spar with and it helped that he strength and power was close to his own. Before they could officially start a female’s voice broke through the rowdy crowd. Pointing one of his swords straight at Leon from across the way he nodded towards Zephyra. ” First we get our strength and then I challenge you.” He wanted a fair fight and that mean full strength and nothing else. Setting his swords down, as he went to grab a cup and bowl of food. Quickly taking a large drink before acknowledging the woman with only a glance before walking off to take a seat on a bench.

The word broken was one of the many things that people could use to describe her. She had no voice and did just as she was told. There was a time when she was not this broken. She use to rebel against her master but when she met Vedius he found a way to break her in the worse way possible. He was a twisted boy and his father was no better. The day she was set free from their home would be the day that she started believing in the gods again. For now she just allowed herself to pass along in this home by doing whatever they wanted her to. It was not like she was given an option to turn anything down. The word no would never fall from her lips. Making Vedius happy made life way easier for her. Even though she loved to make him happy he could never keep her safe from his father. By being close to Vedius she just felt a bit safe. No one else in the house really bothered her when she was close to Vedius. He was her twisted savior and she appreciated him for that.

Her thoughts came to an end when cart stopped moving. Vedius had given her specific instructions on how he wanted his room clean. She was going to do just as he told her. She knew the way he wanted his room to look and she was going to make sure that it was free of germs. After spending so much time with him she became a bit of a germ hatter. She hated when anyone touched her, especially a Roman. Whenever anyone touched her she would tense up at the idea of all the germs that they had placed on her. Romans were such filthy people and their habits were disgusting. Whenever she was able to be alone she would clean the area that was touched. If they had better cleaning habits she was sure that she would be able to tolerate them a bit more. They never would and she would never relax when anyone of them touched her.

She made her way into his room and reorganized some things. Vedius could be a rather picky person and she did not wanted his room to be perfect. Her head turned when she noticed another slave was about to cough. She quickly pushed the woman to the outside of the room, “Are you trying to make him sick. I can handle this alone.” The woman did not look so happy and she did not care. If he became sick she was going to get it. The other lady would not get in as much trouble and that was something she hated. She was just about to move another item in the room but stopped and looked down at her hands. There was no telling if the girl was sick and she needed to clean her hands before she touched anything else. She took a minor leave of her job and did not come back until she had found a place to clean her hands. When her hands were pure again she finished organizing his room. Once the job was done she took a step back and ran over the list in her hand. There was no dust on anything and everything looked brand new. His bed was made the way he wanted and his clothes were nicely organized. There was nothing out of the ordinary and if anyone messed up this room she would kill them.

She made her way down the hall and stopped when she heard Vedius’s voice. It was a good thing that she ran into him before she saw anyone else. She had heard that the rest of the family had arrived and there was some guest in the house. She was not trying to run into any of them without Vedius being around. She stopped a few feet away from Vedius and made sure not to give direct eye contact while she was talking to him, “Dominus your room has been made the way you like.” She did not bother to say anything else but waited to see what else he needed her to do.

Zephyra didn't care if the gladiators took what was offered or not. She really didn't care much for them and their smug attitudes gained just because they could swing a sword round in an arena. She did, however, respect those who were thrust into the battle and shined because of their own strength of self preservation, but over all Zeph just saw a lot of masculine hot heads. Her one exception being Vistilia. There was something to admire about a woman who could make it in a man dominated sport. Zephyra admired Vistilia's strength and attitude. Sometimes she wondered what it was like to be such a strong female, but then realized being meek and obedient kept more attention off of herself. It was also a small wonder how the gladiators could find ways to be jovial with one another even as a slave. Zephyra rarely experienced those moments, but then again she also lived in constant fear of being found out.

She chewed at her bottom lip as she looked around at the gladiators beginning to move about, seemingly glad to be out of the dark, dank cells. Zeph could sympathize. After being starved of the sun's rays for so long, one forgot their true place. She was, however, pulled from her musings as deep, strong voices came near her. She took a step to the side, allowing them access to the food and drink. She knew all their faces, but rarely made company with any of them, sometimes seeking out Vistilia to offer assistance if the woman would need it. Zeph did frown however at the suggestion of a sparring between Dorix and Leon. They had just finished a rather gruesome fight and already they were wanting to fight one another. She sighed, shaking her head.

"I will never understand gladiators," she muttered to herself under her breath as she moved to take a seat on the bench nearest her. She crossed her legs and arms over her chest, sitting with her spine straight. She enjoyed the moment, taking time to soak up the sun before it would be gone for the night and merriment setting in to make all the nobles loud and even more obnoxious than usual. Zephyra was hoping to gain a few more precious minutes to herself before the night was over or her services were called upon.

She shifted her weight a little, her spine relaxing a little with the time she sat in the fading sun. She welcomed the heat to her sun kissed skin, and soon found her eyes drooping. She let the noise of the fighters dull to just a small echo in the back of her mind as she allowed herself to lean back against the wood panel of the training arena behind the bench where she sat. She didn't let herself fall asleep, merely allowed herself to relax, watching the energy between the gladiators, starting to enjoy the easy comradery they had with each other. Something not so easily found within the other slaves, though Antonia was a good friend and confident. Thinking of the young woman made Zeph miss her company. She resolved to find the woman when she was finished overseeing the nourishing of the gladiators.

She had arrived early to the new home, riding separate from her Dominus and instead with other slaves. It was rare that she wasn’t tagging along side her dominus but as ordered, she was to come early and help prepare the house for when the family arrived. She had a list of things to do by the time they arrived and one of them was arrange the bedroom for her masters, than after that attend to everything any anything that was possible. Cleaning, running errands and sending messages. The family was like a volcano, something she related them to quiet often. Never knowing then one of them would erupt, so especially today she was doing her best to not mess anything up and do her work as perfectly as possible. She’d been with the family since she was a little girl, so by now their every want and need and burned into her memory, but she was bound to make mistakes every time a new member joined or left the family in some way or another.” The house is rather beautiful.” speaking to herself as she was over watching the transportation of the salves into the chambers before anyone was arriving. Soon a few of the family member had come and she quickly attended to them and most personally her domina. Making sure everything was in order and for when she was allowed to have some free time away to do other things around the home.

Her big job was to watch for the arrival of Adrastia, the older daughter of the Dominus, since her Domina wanted to make a good first impression. She remembered the girl when she was little; they were the exact same age so her memory still had a place for the girl and her face. Biting down on her lips as her fingers fumbled the collar around her next, lost in thought as she took in one of the rooms where she’d been laying out small decorations for that night festivities. She was brought from her thoughts with a quick gasp, looking around to see if anyone had spotted her not doing any work. If word got around she knew for certain a punishment would be in her future. Wrapping her arms around her body tightly from just the mere thought. She didn’t always used to be so timid and scared, she could smile once but not it was all taken away from her. She even felt scared around the other slaves and gladiators, but at least around them she could smile and every once in awhile talk freely without a care.

When she heard Vedius calling her name, there wasn’t even a second of delay and she shuffled towards the room his voice had carried from. Stopping a few feet away from him giving a quick bow.” Apologies, I have not had any recent word.” Keeping her gaze down to the floor while she spoke.” I will go check now.” bowing again before quickly turning and keeping her pace quick to get throughout the house towards the entrance gate. The guards there were sure to know something, and sure enough they did. For when she arrived Adrastia’s things were present and the words were she would not be too far behind. Without having to even speak to one of the guards, she quickly turned back on her heal and ran towards the location Vedius had previously been at. She slowed her pace upon getting closer seeing Antonia’s form in the room with him, she only allowed a few seconds of eye contact with the other slave before having her gaze back to the ground.” Your sister and a guest will be arriving very quickly Dominus.” Pushing her lips together tightly as she excused herself from his presence, needing to hurry to inform her Domina.

Once out of sight from the eyes of the family, Sabeen took into a small sprint throughout the home; her time to inform was getting shorter by the second. She felt her heart sink as a young female’s voice rang out in a calling in a tone she was all too familiar with. Stopping and giving a timid bow to the two females who had just entered the through the doors. With receiving the command instantly the identity of the darkened haired female was known. The blonde was also known as Sylva, having been in her presence before. ” Right away.” hurrying off, she didn’t bother to go back to Vedius, knowing he would soon make an appearance, and now she needed to hurry more than ever to her Domina, getting more flustered and panicking as she got closer, Sabeen at least managed to stop one of the kitchen salves and relay the request for wine. Pushing herself away and towards the bedrooms. Coming to the doorway, she stopped and didn’t give herself any time to catch her breath.” The D-dominus and guest just arrived.”, her chest felt like it was going to explode with her heart beating so fiercely against her insides. The calm exterior of Maria scared her as she knew better than anyone it wouldn’t be there for long.

The smack across the face was nothing new, but it stung just as much as any other time. Letting out a small shriek of pain as her hands quickly went to cover the area. Tasting blood and feeling the heat radiating off her skin. ” Apologies domina. “ her voice was shaky and the gasp she let out caught in her throat when the female tightly gripped at it.” A-apologies.” doing all she could to mutter out another plead for forgiveness, while holding back the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes. When she was finally released, her hands went straight to her neck; rubbing the area s the pressure from her collar has also dug into her skin. Except for a small coughing fit, she remained silent and quickly attended to her face, clearing every sign of abuse she could. It didn’t take long, and soon as she was proper once again, she followed back into shadowing the woman and went along with her to the front entrance. Remaining at her side, arms folded in front of her body.
