Better to Forget: Request by Ayako
The sun was shining brightly in the sky over the grass where Tsuki sat on the grass that flowed with the tone of the soft and cool wind of the coming fall. Her soft blond hair lightly swayed with the breeze although it was pulled back into a bun. Her eyes were closed as her back arched away from the bark of the tree and she let out a little yawn of pleasure.
"I wonder who is moving in today?" She asked herself and opened her eyes to see a smiling wolf in her wake. "Kyle!" She yelped with a jump that brought her to her feet. She had only been the Mayor for a few weeks when she noticed the smug wolf seemed to give her more attention than the others.
"Hey there, Tsuki." Kyle replied with a sly grin on his mouth with his bright teeth shining in the sun's rays. "Hey! I heard the train was coming in about an hour. Would you like to get a coffee first?"
Tsuki smiled a little and nodded. "Actually my plan was to meet Skye there in a few minutes actually. We-" The sound of a train whistle caused her head to snap in the direction of the station. "I thought it wouldn't be here for an hour!?" She asked as her feet moved before her mind did. She was already in a run towards the station, knowing that as Mayor, one of her duties was to greet the newcomers as they arrived.
So far she was good at it! Except one time Isabelle chewed her out for missing Bob's arrival! She still felt terrible about that moment. She paused in her steps just as a new wolf stepped out into the town.
His fur was a navy blue with cream accents. His black eyes looking out curiously at the scenery. His ears gave a single twitch and his head turned to see her. Something seemed to register in his eyes and Tsuki found herself speechless.
She got herself back together quickly as she straightened her shirt and began walking towards the newcomer, not knowing that Kyle was watching her closely.
"Hello!" Tsuki said with a bright smile and held her hand out to the wolf. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I am the Mayor of this town. Thank you for coming."
The newcomer huffed a little bit as he took her hand and gave it a little reassuring squeeze all while winking. "Hello. I am Wolfgang. And you are...? Just Mayor?" He grinned.
"Oh!" Tsuki laughed nervously as the handshake had sent shivers through her. "Sorry! I'm Tsuki!" She smiled. "Skye has told me to work in my greeting!" She chuckled and looked down with a sigh.
Wolfgang tilted his head curiously, his ears perked up in amusement. "I won't be staying long. This is just a vacation of sorts."
~~~
Tsuki sound herself caring more about her appearances daily since Wolfgang's appearance. Something has changed in her and even Skye seemed to notice. Skye was her best friend who was the first to open up to her upon her arrival.
She was also the one to tell her about The Switch by the beach. The Switch was known to all the villagers, but could only be found by the Mayor. Most thought it just a story, but Tsuki once saw it with her own eyes. It blended well with the rocks on the side of the cliff to the sand. If it was just a fairytale, she was not sure. Maybe it was a prank the villagers had going. Although, she hoped it wasn't!
She was just finishing putting her hair back into a bun when she heard the doorbell. "Coming!" She called. She knew it was Wolfgang. They had planned to go for a beach walk days ago. It was only just this morning that they set tonight's full moon as the night.
Something told her she was falling for him, but she kept trying to push the thoughts out of her head. She can't be falling for a tourist! Or anyone for that matter. She knew Kyle had a thing for her, but he only made jokes whenever she tried to be serious. No. He was only a friend. But Wolfgang was different. She was forming a bond with him.
~~~
Wolfgang had his arm wrapped up with Tsuki's as they walked down to the beach. The night was slightly chilly and he had taken off his jacket that now hung loosely over Tsuki's shoulders. This was his last night in town, but he had grown so close to this human over the past couple weeks. He couldn't leave without telling her how he felt.
By the time their feet were wet and sandy from the quiet walk on the ocean line, he couldn't take the suspense anymore. Tsuki herself even looked worried about something. It was time...
"Tsuki..." He started and turned to face her with his paws holding her soft hands in them. "I have to tell you something. It. It can't wait. This is my last night."
Tsuki tilted her head curiously in the same way Wolfgang did once when they first met. The only light was from the stars and the moon shining high in the darkness. Luckily they also had illumination from the water's reflective nature. "Yes?" She choked out and she found herself nervously shaking and not from the chill of the sea breeze.
"The train will be here tonight and I. Well..." Wolfgang sighed and pulled her closer by the wrists. Her arms went up as she gasped in shock, hooking her hands together around his neck. Her eyes were wide as he leaned down and kissed her hard.
Tsuki gasped as her lips met his. It was happening! Her feelings were reciprocated! But! He was leaving!? What was he doing!? Her mind was racing but once again her body moved first. Paws were on her hips as she reciprocated the deep kiss. The sparks were sending fireworks through her vision even with her eyes closed.
She stood there a long while even after he walked away, her mind blank as she watched the waves. GET IT TOGETHER! Her mind was screaming.
It wasn't long that tears were streaming down her face as she ran for the train station. "Wolfgang!" She shouted again and again, the memories of their encounters rushing through her head. But by the time she got there, the train was gone.
Only a picture of Wolfgang remained behind. She picked it up and held it close to her heart. "Come back!" She screamed. "Come back!" She knew it was useless. He wasn't to return.
~~~
Days went by and Tsuki only fell only into a world of depression. She talked to nobody. She greeted nobody. She only did her paperwork and shouted away anyone that came close.
One day she was walking along their path on the beach that night that felt like so long ago. Her hair was messy and no longer in a bun. Instead, it was hanging off her shoulders. She never changed her clothes from that night.
She was in her own mind when she bumped into the cliff. "Ugh." She looked up just to come face to face with The Switch. A form of suicide. Forgetting everything. Everything erased. Start over. Start new.
She grinned and pushed it without a second though, but not without saying, "I love you."
~~~
The train pulled into a new town and a smiling Tsuki hopped off the train.
"WELCOME!" Screamed the villagers. Their names were Skye, Kyle...and Wolfgang.
