                                                    • It had felt like ages since Luna had stepped foot into Lavaridge Town, when it reality it had only been a few years. The battle between her and the town's gym leader was all she could really remember about the town. It had happened early on in Luna's career as a trainer, and had won her her fourth Hoenn gym badge. She remembered feeling so happy and accomplished about it, but now, Luna considered the event as a small speck on the list of her many achievements. The very reason that Luna had made a return to Lavaridge was testament enough to how much she had grown in the past few years. Luna wasn't here to battle some simple gym leader; Luna was here to save a gym leader's life. In a move that she had not seen coming, her mentor, Sidney, had entrusted her with the mission of accompanying several others on a trek across Hoenn to find two people who's absence threatened the existence of Hoenn as well as the rest of the world. It had been a bit of a shock to the nineteen-year-old, but she had tried to play it cool. Luna was already younger than the rest of her companies, and less experienced. She didn't need another reason for her to seem weak.

The purpose of coming to Lavaridge town had been to track down any clues in the disappearance of the town's gym leader, Flannery. The fact that a gym leader was missing was alarming enough. When you added the fact that Flannery just so happened to be the guardian and keeper of Groundon, a legendary Pokemon whose powers were immense, the case became extremely suspicious. Flannery was not one to up and leave her town. Although she was a new gym leader and, in Luna's opinion, a little too inexperienced to be guarding one of Hoenn's legendary Pokemon, Flannery was still a tough and formidable opponent, and she would not simply run from something. It was the opinion of Sidney, as well as the other members of the Elite Four of Hoenn and even Steven, the Pokemon Champion of Hoenn, that Flannery had been forcefully taken from her town and into someone's custody. The problem was, no one had any leads into whose custody she was in. It was easy to guess why someone would want Flannery: whoever held Flannery held the key to awakening Groundon and the powers that came with the Pokemon. But who would want to do something as stupid as that?

                                                      Team Magma.

Team Magma and Team Aqua were both separate gangs who had sprouted up suddenly in Hoenn over the past year. They had traveled across Hoenn wrecking havoc in an attempt to try and take over the continent. Luna had heard of their brash plans to obtain possession of both Kyroge and Groundon so that their ideas of the perfect Hoenn could be brought to life. Team Magma and Aqua were idiots in Luna's eyes, but it didn't take a genius to realize that the easiest way of capturing the legendary Pokemon was to take their guardians out. Luna had previously thought that Magma and Aqua were a small band of petty criminals who would fizzle out over time. Unfortunately, Luna had been wrong. They seemed to go stronger and larger within each passing week. Flannery could have been feasible to capture; she was new at this, and could have been taken off guard with the right man power. Wallace, the guardian of Kyroge, was extremely experienced and powerful, but had been captured as well. That's what scared Luna, although she didn't want to admit it: Team Aqua had gotten strong enough that they were able to capture Wallace. It was a frightening thought.

The farther into the city they got, the closer the Hot Springs became. The Hot Springs held Luna's fondest memories of Lavaridge town. They felt amazing, and could perk up any weary traveler, no matter how much that traveler had on their mind. Luna turned to look over her shoulder back at her travel companion. "Hey Jon, we should take a break and hit up those Hot Springs~." Luna gave him a cheery smile and a wink. She could not possibly see the man stopping for such a silly request. Even if they hadn't been on such an important mission, Jon did not seem like the type who would waste his time with that. Then again, Luna didn't know Jon that well. She was merely basing her opinion off of his manly looks. Maybe he enjoyed a nice dip in the Hot Springs as much as Luna did?

Yes, Jon Harding had been appointed as Luna's travel companion. Each of the Elite Four members had an apprentice, and each one had been sent out to carry the investigation that the Elite Four was just simply too busy for at the time. The group of four apprentices had been split up into two teams, with Luna and Jon being paired together. Luna hadn't really minded it. In all honesty, although Luna had seen her fellow peers everyday since she had become Sidney's apprentice, the group really didn't talk to each other much. They were acquaintances, nothing more.

Luna stopped walking, waiting for Jon to catch up to her. Luna had been known to have bundles of energy hidden in her tiny body. During their journey, she had constantly been ahead of Jon. She was a fast walker, and often liked to look back over her shoulder and try and tease the man. It had become a form of entertainment for her, something to ease the tension of her dreary journey. "Hey slow poke, at the very least, I think we should find a Poke Center. I could use a little rest."

                                                  • The same thoughts had been playing in Seth's head for days now.

"This is ridiculous. Don't you trust me?"

A sigh could be heard coming from the other side of the room. "You're acting ridiculous. Of course I trust you. But trust is not the issue here. You must understand that what you are up against... Team Aqua and Magma seem to be stronger than we previously thought possible. You-"

"I what, Drake? I can't handle them on my own?! Yes, I can! I can! I am Seth Rider, apprentice to the Dragon Master Drake and a future Elite Four member! I can do anything on my own! I do not need some girl's help."

"You do not understand. You have so much more to learn..."

As far as Seth had been concerned, he had learned enough to allow him to be able to travel across Hoenn without a babysitter. That really wasn't what Cecelia was, but Seth was a stubborn and proud man, and not even his idol Drake had been able to get it through his thick skull that Cecelia was more of an asset than a liability. In Seth's mind, he had made it: he was a future Elite Four member, and not only that, a Dragon trainer. When Drake decided to step down as the Dragon Master of Hoenn, Seth would take his place. He was unstoppable in his own mind, and a few criminals surely weren't going to ruin the golden image that Seth had given himself.

Regardless of his wishes, Seth found himself now in Sootopolis City with Cecelia Dubois, Glacia's apprentice and another future Elite Four member. The two had been instructed to team up together and investigate the disappearance of Wallace, the Sootopolis City gym leader and, more importantly, the guardian of Kyroge. Wallace had last been seen in his own city, and so it had been concluded that the most helpful starting place would be exactly that city. The fastest way to get to Sootopolis City was through flight, and so Seth had taken to the skies with Cecelia on his Altaria, his most trusted companion and friend. There hadn't been much conversation on the way there. That hadn't changed now that the two trainers had landed.

Upon landing, Seth had decided to keep Altaria out of her Pokeball. She was a fearsome looking dragon Pokemon. It was Seth's hope that her power might attract stupidity, specifically the stupidity of Team Aqua. Drake had instructed him to try and stay under the radar. The Elite Four did not want their apprentices to start an all out war with Team Aqua and Team Magma; they simply wanted them to gain information about the teams and confirm or deny if the two teams actually had Wallace and Flannery. Seth, however, disagreed with his mentor on that. He had so much more potential than just being a shadow. Why should he try to stay under the radar when he could easily end all of this with just one battle? After all, there was no way he would lose. The thought was impossible to him.

Seth stopped walking suddenly, frustration apparent on his face. "Well, where the hell are we supposed to start?" He growled, crossing his arms over his chest. The question was mostly directed to Cecelia, although he had looked at Altaria while speaking. Altaria tilted her head to the side, ruffling her fluffy white feathers. Her beady black eyes showed a hint of confusion. Altaria was just as lost as Seth was at the moment.

Jon had been an avid traveler before all of this.He had traveled for enjoyment, rather than trying to earn badges. It was only in his traveling that he met his partners, which were few, but strong. How he had earned the attention of Phoebe was beyond him. Perhaps she saw the promise in his stern gaze and how, someone as seemingly forlorn as he could form such strong bonds with his pokemon. Throughout his years, Jon had been witness to many things. Team Aqua & Magma, were of lesser evils compared to other gangs in other countries that did much worse than they. However, he had no foreseen this coming, especially not from them. But who else could be to blame?

He was on the trail of Team Magma, though he wondered how they had accomplished such a feat to capture gym leaders. He could see some of the younger, less experienced leaders being captured by trickery... but he had been astounded to learn that Wallace had been coveted away also. The man somehow felt there was more depth to this than they had yet to uncover, but he did not like any of what it alluded to. A pending dread followed Jon like a shadow, waiting for the right moment to snatch at him. He kept a good mask.

Jon was quiet, but not in a shy way. He only felt the need to speak when he was required to, but as serious as that made him seem, he did have a sense of humor. While it was hidden beneath a smirk and infrequent quips, he did know how to smile and have a good time if he felt comfortable enough to do so. Often Phoebe jested at his polite and courtly manner, comparing him to a gentleman or older man. He had been to so many different lands that he had just adapted a personality that suited all of them, so that he would not offend anyone from another place.

He was traveling with Luna, another apprentice of another elite four member. He did not know her well, as he did not know any of his fellow apprentices too well. But from what he had collected, she had a pep in her step and took great satisfaction in walking faster than him. Jon was a tall man, but he felt no need to put such urgency in his step. Surely, they were on an important mission, but the information they sought was still going to be there if they were just a few minutes shorter. His long strides also required less effort than her swift pace, he could easily keep up with her, though it was not how he preferred to travel.

At the mention of the hot springs, the male arched a brow at her. He did not understand everyone's fascination with the hot water. Sure, it was relaxing, but there were other ways to unwind. There was something about sweating in nearly boiling water with other people that put him off. "Of course you could use the rest. I was wondering when you would tire from the absurd pace you set for yourself," he quipped as they walked through the city. Lavaridge Town was not absurdly large and Jon had a very good memory when it came to navigating and directions. It only took two long steps to be next to Luna. He took lead, his strides were double hers, but he managed to pace himself.

Ahead he spotted the white walls and red roof of the pokemon center, welcoming any weary traveler with open arms. The doors slid open as they entered and they were greeted by the nurse on duty. The hot springs would be in the back, though Jon could care less. The town was the last place that Flannery had been seen and it was likely that the citizens had seen or heard something the night she went missing.

For Cecelia it was still difficult to adjust to the warm climate of Hoenn. She had dwelled north of the mountains and in Snowpoint City for so many years that her body was accustomed to subzero temperatures, ice, and snow. Hoenn was the complete opposite and she was forced into sporting short-shorts, a tank top, and her hair pulled away from her face. She could not understand how people wore normal clothing! At least while she trained with Glacia, the rooms were kept chilled because that was how the both of them preferred it. Any time the woman had to go outside she felt a heatstroke coming on just as her pale skin started to get caressed by the sun's warmth. While she liked having her Froslass with her, it became a necessity when she traveled. She could hike mountains and trudge through three feet of snow, however she was at an absolute loss for walking hot areas. Froslass brought a chill with her, acting as a walking air conditioner for Cecelia who did her best to hide her distress from the weather.

Flying had been nice, the moving wind had cooled her internal temperature and for a while she felt whole again. However, when they landed, she wanted nothing more but than to dive right into the ocean and take a swim with her Dewgong.
She knew the perplexity of the whole situation. The missing guardians and the possible assault on legendary pokemon. Glacia had schooled her on what she needed to know before she left, however, she had been distracted by the tropical weather since leaving her icy sanctuary. She could not claim she was too keen of being paired with Seth. While she did not know him quite well, she knew of Drake. He did not possess patience, that much was very obvious. It was probably why Glacia had suggested her to work with him.

Cecelia was a patient woman, relaxed and even-spoken. She had little temper and was good under stress. There had been a time when she participated in contests. She had done quite well for herself, but eventually realized that her calm personality suited her well in the heat of battle. Though, like many other ice trainers, she was often referred to as cold and distant. Training under Glacia, Cecelia had gained more of the older woman's traits and thus, became more proper. It was rare that Cecelia's well planned guise that was her face would crack with emotions she did not mean to display. Betraying emotions in battle gave your opponent the upper hand if they knew how to read you.

Seth seemed to be nearly polar of her, burning with a passion that could possibly even melt Cecelia's ice. However, they were still early into their journey and while Cecelia was physically tormented by the heat, she was not close to cracking just yet. "We could try the pokemon center or even the gym first. It is likely someone saw something no matter how slight. Wallace would not have gone without a fight," Cecelia suggested.

                                                    • Luna allowed Jon to take the lead, only because she could not find the layout of Lavaridge Town in her memory. She could not for the life of her remember where the Pokemon Center was located, and couldn't seem to spot the red roof anywhere. Her stomach grumbling, she clapped in joy once she saw the building in front of her. Happily, she ran up to Jon and scurried through the doors before they had a chance to close. Once they were in, she took lead again, eyeing a table close by. She went and nabbed a seat for herself, immediately pulling her backpack off of her shoulders and pulling out an apple for a snack. "Are you hungry?" Luna looked up at Jon, craning her neck so she could see him from her low chair. Luna began to pull a few other snacks out of her bag, mostly colorful fruits as well as colorful bags filled with chips and candy. "I don't mess around when it comes to snack time."

She proceeded to eat the apple to the core, and then went after a bag of chips once she had finished that. Her hunger being satiated, Luna was soon able to focus her attention on her surroundings. The door to the Hot Springs was in the very back of the center, near the nurse on duty. There were several other tables laying around resembling the one she was at, and several other trainers seemed to be as tired or hungry as she was. The center wasn't too heavily populated at the moment. It seemed as though things were generally calm. It made sense; this was a small town. The only reason you generally came to Lavaridge Town was to either challenge the gym leader, who was missing in action at the moment, or visit the Hot Springs. Maybe there were more people in the Hot Springs?

At that thought, the doors of the center flew open again, and two trainers came running in at full speed. One seemed to be making sounds akin to hyperventilating. The other trainer, a companion, or so Luna assumed, huffed and puffed behind him, trying desperately to keep up with the distraught trainer. As the trainers got closer, Luna recognized a lifeless Jumpluff in the distraught trainer's arms. The nurse attempted to ask what had happened, but all that seemed to come out of the trainer's mouth was babble. Realizing she wasn't going to be able to get anywhere with them, the nurse took the Jumpluff back, leaving the two trainers out front.

"I told you we shouldn't have gone to Mt. Chimney... There's been some bad rumors surrounding it lately. We should have listened!"

Luna perked her ears up, her full attention now on the two trainers. She was able to hear most of their conversation, as being quiet was the last thing on their minds at that moment.

The distraught trainer simply sobbed as his response. Luna raised an eyebrow, turning to look at Jon. "I wonder what's up at Mt. Chimney?" She would have liked to ask,but felt as though it would be distasteful. She instead strained her ears towards the direction of the trainers, wondering if they would drop anymore knowledge about the situation.

"Team Magma... I can't believe they've come here. I had thought they were made up..." The trainer was quieter now, but it was still loud enough for Luna to here. Immediately she jumped up out of her chair, her livelihood restored.

"Did you hear that? We have to go!"

                                                  • Seth was not one to mull anything over. At Cecelia's mentioning of the gym, he immediately turned to her, nodding. "The gym, yes. That's a good idea. Drake told me that the gym was Wallace's second home. He rarely left there. Someone must have seen something there." Seth immediately began walking in the direction of the gym. He was familiar with the layout of the city, and knew that the gym was in the very heart of it. As long as you walked towards the middle of the city, you'd find the gym. It was relatively easy to find, although it was not as easy to access. As it was surrounded by water on all sides, the only way one could hope to enter was by either swimming or flying over. Considering Seth flew on a daily basis and Cecelia had her Dewgong, this challenge did not pose much of a threat to the two.

The gym now in eyesight, Seth was soon greeted by the body of water surrounding it. He turned to Altaria, who had been faithfully following him. "You know what to do," he told her, and she immediately obliged, shrinking down so that Seth could get on her. He turned and looked at Cecelia. He hesitated for a moment, then offered her his hand to help pull her up. "Unless, of course, you'd like to swim. It's up to you," he said, acting as uninterested as he possibly could. He was a stubborn man, and was determined not to be seen as weak. To him, getting help and giving help was a weakness. He should be able to do everything on his own, and he shouldn't have to worry about helping others. That was always his mind set.

Once Cecelia had made up her mind on what she wanted to do, Seth commanded Altaria to go, and within what seemed like seconds they were on the small body of land in front of the gym. Once he had gotten off of Altaria, he immediately went straight for the doors to the gym. As hard as he tugged, they would not open. He grunted, trying again to pull open the doors, but to no avail. A look of frustration on his face once more, Seth threw up his hands and growled to the sky. He turned to Cecelia, gritting his teeth. "The damn door is locked."

Seth pounded his fist against the door, more out of anger than anything else. His temper was short, and it did not take much to set him off. He and Cecelia were opposites in that respect. He admired her for that, although he would never admit that in a million years.

Suddenly, the doors seemed to be opening on their own. Seth whipped his head back, surprised. A young woman came out. She was a tiny woman, although she seemed to be around their age. Her blue eyes were hardened, and her face seemed solemn. "The gym is closed. Wallace is not here."

Seth looked over towards Cecelia, arching his brows. Of course he knew that Wallace wasn't there, but perhaps playing stupid would give him an advantage. "Really? That's a shame. We've traveled all this way to see him... Could you tell me where he went off to?"

The woman's face did not falter, although her eyes seemed to grow softer. Did he see a bit of moisture in her eyes? "He went away on business."

Seth rolled his eyes. Okay, so playing stupid did not help him. Time to get back to his charming self. "I don't like to be lied too, okay. I know Wallace has disappeared. You're not fooling anyone. Tell me what you know."

The woman's eyes widened. She looked at Seth and then over to Cecelia. "I... I don't know. The last time I heard from him, he had said he had business to attend to at the cave in the back of the gym. There had been some weird things going on back there. Men dressed in blue had tried to gain access to the cave, and Wallace was getting tired of it. I believed they called themselves Team Aqua, though I can't remember for sure. Anyway, that was over a week ago, and I haven't seen him sense..." As she spoke, the woman's eyes began to water. Seth took a few steps over to the side of the gym, peering ahead of him and seeing the opening of the cave into the distance. "Interesting..." he muttered.

Jon had eaten at the beginning of the day. He didn't need snacks in between meals or much to eat. He could survive on a meal a day simply because he used to do it all the time. It wasn't often he would have more than just two meals. He wasn't a thin man, but he knew what he needed to make it through each day and ate a good amount in the meals he did take part in. "No I am all set," he told her before his eyes went around the center. There did not seem to be much going on, without a gym leader the town was actually quite dead. Only the occasional tourists would come by and even those were scarce it seemed. However, the peace did not last long at all.

Two trainers came stumbling in, one with a lifeless Jumpluff in one of their arms. Jon felt his heart crack slightly at their frantic words as the nurse took the pokemon. They probably knew it and Jon was already fully aware that the poor thing had not made it. Who would go to such an extend to kill someone's pokemon? Jon did not like where this was going. Most trainers did not push their pokemons to limits that hurt them too much in battle. Most were content on KO's and forfeiting when their pokemon clearly lost or was injured. It was in the trainer's hands to know when their pokemon had had enough. Some trainers pushed their pokemon into their early graves by continuing to make them fight when they had enough. Only a truly evil trainer would finish the job and kill their opponent's pokemon. But as awful as it sounded, some trainers would rather sacrifice their companion than lose.

Jon knew this was not the case for the pair who appeared frantic.Team Magma? It was both good and unsettling to hear the name. However, he had never known them to kill pokemon. Even with their skit a while ago to raise a legendary pokemon to power, they had never maimed or killed, even they had not been heartless. Something has changed, this is very unlike them. Pokemon are rarely killed in battle. Just what did these two walk into? he wondered as Luna, who also heard the conversation, spoke to him.

Jon also had stood, gathering himself as he pushed his grief for the trainer aside. He had never lost a pokemon himself, but he knew that the grief, especially for a long time partner, had to be immense. He couldn't imagine losing any of his friends. He had so few of them... "I agree, this is not a good sign. They have always been bullies, but murderers?" he shook his head as they departed from the pokemon center. "This could be much worse than we believed. Prepare yourself to see things you may not like," Jon warned, not knowing what to expect within Mt.Chimney. If they were willing to kill pokemon, there was nothing from also stopping them from killing people as well.

Cecelia trailed after Seth, who always seemed to be going a hundred miles per hour. She wondered how he didn't tire quickly from how swiftly he went about doing things. They walked through the city and found themselves looking at the gym from across the water. A tiny voice in Cecelia's head sang with joy as she fished out Dewgong's net ball. By the time Seth offered her a ride, Cecelia was already sending out her other friend. Froslass clung to her trainer as she leaped onto Dewgong's back, her toes getting splashed by the water. The sea-lion pokemon barked in approval as Cecelia used her balance to keep her upright, standing on Dewgong like a surfboard. The pokemon was clever enough to know that she wanted to go to the gym. Dewgong did not try to slow himself as he came to the ledge to the gym. Instead, he hopped him and slid across the rock on his belly. Lia had little warning, but managed to keep herself steady. It had been an old routine for contests and it seemed she still had it!

Dewgong barked in joy as she hopped down and rubbed his head endearingly. "We've still got it!" she told him, breaking her mask for a moment to grin at her pokemon who returned a dopey expression. Out of her group of pokemon, Dewgong was probably the goofiest. She only looked over when Seth mentioned that the door was locked to the gym. She returned Dewgong to his ball after thanking him and headed over to meet the other trainer. When he punched the door, the female just stared at him with a rather blank expression. "Uh..." but somehow it worked! The door opened and a young woman stepped out.

Cecelia only listened to the exchange, standing there silently as Seth barked the information out of her. Noticing her distress, Cecelia decided to finally step in but only because it was the proper thing to do. She could care less of the other female's emotions. "Thank you, hopefully Wallace will be back soon. There is not too much to worry about, maybe he went off without telling anyone where he was going," she explained as the young woman went back in the gym leaving just the two of them. Cecelia glanced over at Seth. "Try to be more discreet, we don't want to cause panic or make people cry from interrogating them. We'll get bad rep and word of our search will spread. We need to stay under the radar of whoever is doing this," she warned him icily before she stepped past him and started toward the cave.

She wasn't going to let Seth jeopardize this mission, especially if he was going to bully information out of people. He might not like it, but she was going to keep him in line.
