So I've got to create a game for my Flash class, and I missed the part where we covered most of the Actionscript for the class. I'm highly familiar with object-oriented programming in C++ and C#, and I've done some Javascript before in a very different context.

How exactly would a movieclip fit into the schema of object-oriented programming? How do I define a particular movieclip as being a particular class? If I can understand how this whole aspect works, the rest shouldn't be too hard.

When they say Flash is OO, they are being quite literal. You just click on your object and attach code to it.

I am unsure if this answers your question, because I am not quite sure what you are trying to ask.

Hm... basically, I want a character class with different stat variables. I have a mage and a fighter, and I want them each to be a character object. Where do I declare the character class, and how do I make the mage and fighter objects of that "character" class?

It's been years since I actually did anything with Flash, so I'm not going to be able to give you a quick and speedy answer. Apologies.

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/concept_symbol.html Again, apologies if this doesn't quite answer the question, but if I were working on a project that involved "characters" who interact with each other, I'd just make library symbols and attach code as needed to those. My method is also subject to change as necessary.

Ah, I think I see how that would work. I'll see how it turns out. Thanks!
