He is the ex-husband of Dr. Moira MacTaggert with which he had a son named David. He suffered a spinal injury at the hands of his old friend, Magneto during an escape from his increasingly-militaristic island society, the Savage Land, an injury that left him a paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair.
