How many times can a liver regenerate itself?

I'm wondering if you can do it more than once?

As long as it's still functioning it will heal itself.
It can't fix permanent damage itself though.
In cases which a person has to have a part of their liver removed, a piece of another person's liver can be put on it, and it will begin healing itself once again. That should give a fair idea of it's ability to keep healing itself. 3nodding They are quite impressive with their ability to recover.
Why do people need things like liver transplants then? Why is stuff like hepatitis such a big deal if the liver is so resilient?
The liver cells are able to multiply, but they will not align in the correct structure. So when your liver has been damaged severely you will have a reduced liver function. This might lead to the need of a liver transplantation.
