My problem isn't the basic concept of it, as it's essentially rhythmic poetry. But most of the time I'm not a fan of the content. I'm a nerdy white girl from a middle class family, so most of the talk about rolling in money, getting girls, coming from the streets, or how awesome they are, really don't speak to me.
I'd love it if someone could point out some artists to me that branch outside of the normal stereotype that seems to go with rap. I know that some of the mainstream rappers will have tracks that are about something outside the normal rap content. In that case, I'd love the name of the song. But please don't just say "well so-and-so's songs aren't all like that!" I'd rather not have to wade through an artist's entire portfolio to find the few songs that stand out.
Random sidenote: I will forever struggle to see Drake as anything other than Jimmy from Degrassi: The Next Generation.
