Airship Battle Lesbians
12/06/14 - Prepping for launch, captain! It's been a long time in the making, but this Holiday season, there's going to be a new B/C in town that delivers... well, exactly what it says on the tin, really. Characters will be randomized to give out, and then given out. Thread information will be updated. Cities will fall and rise again two days later. It's a fast-paced world.
Because ABL is the overdue, still-clinging-to-the-womb neonate of the B/C world, it's going to take a bit of time to get in the swing of things, but by the end of the month, the goal is to get a good 4 or so quest characters handed out. (Read: I'll make a list of the current approved threads and roll from there.) Expect big things!

- North America. Mid-24th century. The pandemic of the "Bold Molly" super-virus that eradicated half of the world's population - every last man - came and went nearly four hundred years ago - in 1965. Continuation of the human species has been fueled by advances in cloning, artificial gene mixing, and artificial wombs. Today's generations are far removed from the tragedy that struck so long ago, and so they must turn their attention to the problems of today.
These women are all that remain.

As there were once helicopters and planes, there is now the airship. After the introduction of the first airship several decades ago, airships have grown to meet every need and serve every purpose - from commercial airliners to military weapons to hotels - and now, every city and town has a flurry of these slow-flying zeppelin contraptions soaring overhead at low altitudes.
Our story takes place in a land far west: California. The Golden State is home to the Yosemite Valley, the once-intact (and now very much not) Hetch Hetchy dam, the ruins of Hollywood, and, the more inland you get, a lot of sleazy, partly-torn roadside advertising. A bit north of center in California, and as far to the coast as you can get, is the city of San Francisco, one of the top airshipping hubs in the world, and the center of our story. San Francisco has changed a lot, but the little eccentricities still remain, from Bay to Breakers to the It's It Ice Cream Sandwich (now available in 16 delightful flavors including "Hardtack." )
This is the time you now live in. Welcome to the world of Airship Battle Lesbians, where mid-century aircraft design meets late 80s/early 90s grunge attitude and fashion, set in a estrogen-laden, war-torn, sparsely-populated future.

⓵ Go forth and be excellent to one another. Do not create or expand upon "drama," try to include newcomers as well as old friends, don't take artwork or thread graphics without permission - the usual spiel. We shouldn't have to tell you not to breach GaiaOnline's Terms of Service. ⓶ Know your friends, know your enemies. Please be courteous to staff members - and people in general. Separate reality from in-character interactions. Realize that the way you behave reflects on you as a person. Above all, be reasonable.
⓷ Speak properly and respectfully whenever possible. As far as role-play: role-play battles and that sort of thing in third person, past tense, if it fits. Otherwise it's anything goes. You can role-play a character who only contacts others online and speaks exclusively in obscure mid-90s chatspeak for all we care.
⓸ Always assume best intent among friends. If someone has made a comment that is making you uncomfortable, please tell them about it - peacefully - and try to avoid conflict. Otherwise, contact the mule (the thing with the bird and the windpump.)
⓹ Under no circumstances may you kill someone's character or permanently destroy her airship. Assume that losing a battle only temporarily damages the ship and everyone repairs between fights. Alright?

Q. Do I have to role-play or battle to keep my character?A. Nope! We are perfectly fine if you just want to create a character that will go in your signature, so no worries. Really. If role-playing is not your cup of tea, we can completely respect that.
Q. Can I get a free character?
A. Sure. We approve quests and give out free, but otherwise hard-earned customs during events among other things.
Q. Can my character breed?
It's possible, thanks to scientific advances, and your character can have spawn, but is it practical to say "I am going to breed character X to character Y and make a new baby in real time," play-wise? No. Time in this shop setting thing elapses roughly at the same rate as in reality, events aside. For now, existing children will not have official artwork unless they are grown (or almost grown,) but you can always retcon them in there.
Q. Can I invent a building or rest area somewhere in the region that my characters go to?
A. Sure, we’d love to have this sort of thing happen. We could even, eventually, add an “official” subforum or thread for the meeting place should it get popular enough.
Q. Can my character have this? Or that? I NEED to know!

This is the world of Airship Battle Lesbians - it's fractured, it's strange, and it's often every woman for herself.
The general trend is that coastal, urbanized regions are more stable than rural, landlocked ones, generally due to a sizable military and/or police force - however there are notable exceptions. The population is significantly lower now than it was some 190 years ago - and though there are still urban centers and moderately stable areas, there are certain zones wherein only the toughest and craftiest women survive. This is definitely, altogether, a far, far more fractured and, in some cases, Darwinian, world than we are used to. Outside of a few cities, primarily on the coastline, much of the land of North America has reverted to some level of wilderness, with abandoned, decaying houses sprinkled here and there amidst the scattered remains of long-unused freeways.
While the story of Airship Battle Lesbians takes place predominantly in and around San Francisco (and to a greater extent, California and the West Coast) there are tons of fractured and far more desolate places your character can be from in this great former country, from Ozarkland to the Northeast and beyond.
Airship Battle Lesbians
Battling at Airship Battle Lesbians is remarkably simple - and remarkably common. These women battle over everything from land to politics to honor to the law to paying child support to other women to who has the prettiest airship. Battling in stabler areas is generally less frequent than battling in areas that are downright war zones.Battling will typically begin when two airships come in close enough range and their respective pilots display hostilities over the radio - or, if they're really close - by yelling insults at each other at enormous volumes. Two players wishing to battle simply set up a thread in the Battles sub forum in the guild, and then decide who gets to shoot first by rolling either a 4-sided die (and claiming odd or even numbers, respectively) or by generating a random number from 1 to 2. From there on out, battling is turn-based, with one player rolling one (or more, if applicable) die, and then the next person rolling.
You can carry on multiple battles at once - though it is up to you to keep track of them. If you refuse to complete battles because you are losing, you will have your battle privileges revoked - so be fair! An example battle is carried out here if you learn better by seeing how it's done!
Battles need not be roleplayed, however the winner of a roleplayed battle (as opposed to one that is simply dice rolling) will gain 4 points, instead of the usual 2. Losers will still lose 1 point, however point totals may never fall below 0.
In addition to battling, roleplaying is another way to gain points - a slower, less risky one (as you cannot lose points through roleplaying out non-battles.) Completed roleplays (15 posts or 1500 words of completed RP, whichever comes first) are worth 2 points each - with the exception of Solo Roleplays, which are worth 1 point. Events may also give out points for participation, which can count towards your character growth.

Ranks in Airship Battle Lesbians are quite informal. In order to rank up, a character must have a number of points from roleplay and/or battles. Though neither roleplaying nor battling are required to keep any character, or keep her at a certain rank, they are required to advance her to higher ranks. All characters begin with 0 points.
