I'm an Atheist, but ... uhm ...

Try reading the parts in the bible about God doing a whole bunch of genocide, and the part where he gets into a bet with Satan, and lets Satan go and kill Job's family ...

There are other pretty messed up stories in there, like the whole Moses/Egypt fiasco. Read some of those when you're bored. If anyone asks you about the service, just say you were reading something in the bible and got distracted, so you weren't sure what was going on. Then, poke your nose in the bible and avoid all conversation about the service.

Your reply to this young lady is very rude and uncalled for to say the least. If you want to point out supposed discrepancies, or your opinions, do so, but your approach is unwarranted and against forum rules to provoke.

If I see it again you will be reported.

Blood Valkyrie put me on ignore immediately right after I made the above reply to her.

I'm usually just zoning off.

Yeah, your brain/logic is screaming it's boring, I do suggest you start researching, starting with the bible. You're 17 and ready to give into an ancient textbook script?

Also, if you don't already own a journal, start writing, No matter if it's daily or weekly but write your own thoughts on that journal.

Sincerely, an Atheist. 4laugh

That boredom you are experiencing is your logic kicking in. You're no longer that impressionable child that will believe everything that is spoon fed to them. You have your own mind now. And thinking for yourself can start by actually reading the inaccuracies and the atrocities the bible have to offer.

That is manipulation.

If you wanted to encourage a young lady to think independently, you wouldn't have thrown your opinions in there with it for your basis. Classic manipulation, elementary mistake.

How is encouraging someone to think for themselves is an act of manipulation? If anything, what generations of force teachings of an outdated source material is actually a form of manipulation. Since these people had to be condition in a young impressionable age to follow religion in the first place.

It's quite fortunate the OP is at the age and era when actually thinking for themselves as they weigh the option between choices and consequences for there actions. Rather than to blindly follow just because someone says so like a child.

Your bottom line is a straw man argument. Your first is a misunderstanding of what I said and more manipulation.

Do not use terminologies of common logical fallacies if you don't even know what it means or when to call someone out on. Also I'm starting to think knowledge of the word 'manipulative' isn't quite right. Hell my original post to the OP wasn't even persuasive. It was merely a suggestion.

It's interesting to note that this person feel entitled to tell you how you ought to present an argument, while all the while not presenting an actual argument.

Mystifying. I personally saw nothing wrong with your advice to the OP.

I want to give this guy the benefit of the doubt that English isn't his first language. Given how many simple words this guy seem to have difficulty grasping. But a part of me thinks the bible is his somewhat only source of reading material. Since he most likely is a Christian base on his stance on the argument; he probably just damn ignorant and delusional.

You're going to report me because I told her to read stuff that is actually in the bible in order to keep herself entertained while in a church? The bible is hella interesting. The messed up stories are especially interesting. It was one of the few ways to keep myself from falling asleep when I was a kid in church.

BTW, threatening to report someone is itself against ToS.

Something tells me I should ignore you.

Wow how did I miss this? Did you report this?

Nah. I just ignored him.

Besides, mods can be silly on occasion. I didn't think he was worth any trouble.

Ok. I have been going to church every Sunday since I was born. But lately, at church, especially during bible study, I'm usually just zoning off. (It maybe due to the fact that I have to wake up early to go to church). Anyway, I DO believe in God but I just can't get into the bible studies & sermons (I usually skip the sermons & just come home). I can't even remember what the bible study message was all about. Sometime in January, I will be baptized again to confirm my belief (I am 17). How do I gain interest at church? Will I gain interest when I'm an adult? Because right now, I'm bored & keep on thinking when the bible study class would end.

No. You will not all of sudden become interested when you become an adult.

It doesn't sound like your having a problem with church (little c, big c Church is the Body of Christ). It sounds like your having a problem with God.

You shouldn't be going to church to get food. That's like eating only one day a week and starving yourself for six. You need a shot in the arm of awesomeness. You need a booster shot of hope, of love, of beauty!!! You need to clean your glasses of and look at the passionate radical love of God =)

It is in our daily walk with God and our daily worshipping of Him that we grow closer to Him. Sometimes this can be drudgery and many times it can be painful but if its not glorious and beautiful, awe inspiring and hope igniting at least some of the time than its good to take a step back and ask questions.

I recommend a good book, one that sets your heart on fire once again for God. I don't know you but feel compelled to recommend one, I would try Preaching and Teaching with Imagination by Warren W. Wiersbe. Its basically a book about imagination. But perhaps a different book. Make sure your Bible is in a version that you can read without a freaking translator next to you also. Because that's a great book to read (I like John =) )

The point is, it doesn't sound like church is the problem. It sounds like you have an apathetic mindset towards the Living God and think more about vain religion. This can only come from having failed to see the grandeur of the Living Christ, for anyone who truly sees Him shouts glory glory glory! This is something we all must battle against. It can be nothing short of war to stay in that secret place and stay close to Christ, because all of Hell is coming against you to pry you away from Him, that in the distance you would say to yourself, why am I doing this again?

I hope I helped you to look at the question in a new way.
Blessings

you should have read the title - Christians only

Hahahaha oh wow, my sides.

Erm... iPod, I guess? Throw on some music?

Or try going on a church search. Find something more in tune with your preferences. Maybe something a little more lively?

My sister goes to something like that. They dragged me along one year for Christmas services, it was kind of obnoxious. They played songs with this screen with the lyrics and they had a band up there, and it was just too much stimulation for my taste. If I was going to go to a Christian service, I'd prefer something like the Catholic mass. Lots of exercise, sure, but really comforting for the senses. Sound, sight, even smell.

Sorry, went on a tangent. Um... yeah, try and shake things up a bit, maybe?

I'll be honest, that sounds like a load of bullshit to me. Like I was saying, a lot of people worship in different ways. Sometimes what works for some people doesn't work for everybody else.

Books are all well and good, but "drill it in harder" doesn't fix it when the sermons and bible study bore a person out of their skull.

Actually - OP, have you taken this issue up with your pastor, by any chance? If you don't feel like switching to a new group of peers, maybe you just need some help with the whole thing from within. Maybe someone at your church has ideas that we haven't considered.

But really, don't take any of that "Just study more" nonsense. I mean, you should study a religion or anything you're into, sure, but that s**t is dry as ********]. It's not going to get any easier if you're already struggling with it.

Hello! I'm 19, going on 20, and I was born again on 8/7/2013. Before I thought I was legit, a Christian, but I was never really serious. Cursing, watching things I wasn't supposed to (pornographic stuff), graphic yaoi rp's and stuff. No drugs or drinking praise God but those things were like drugs to me. Being born again and realizing (More like getting hit in the face with the things I was doing) I gave my life back and since then, I'm not saying it's easy, but it's been better.

For me, getting more 'interested' or staying awake during services was pretty easy, but I guess it depends on what church you go to or how the Bible is taught wherever you go. Try looking up passages you may be interested in online or watch some Spiritual movies and try to find the connections made in the movies from the Bible. The best thing I can say is pray and trust that God will show you what to do. God bless you sister!

You don't have to go to church you know. You can read the bible, sing hymns if you want, pray to god, etc. at home. Church is not the only place for worship, anywhere can be. From the kitchen table, to your bed, anywhere, even on the toilet if you're in to that...

Do you know how many Christians don't go to church and are still Christians?

That's normal; I used to get bored at Church, too; the studies and sermons sometimes drag on. Try reading on your own and maybe your interests will expand. BTW, if you only want Christians to answer, you should try a guild

I'm 20. I'm bored as well.... with me though... it's repetition. Instead... I chose to read the Bible myself instead of being told what's in it.... so far.... it's got my interest more than any sermon ever has. I started in Matthew.... I'm in Acts now... 4laugh If this doesn't help.... ehh.... Idk... I'm the type that gets bored easy... so meh. sweatdrop I'm still trying to find a solution... usually if I'm bored I watch anime. stare Though I really wish that I could teach about God more than listen to what I've heard millions of times.... It's much more satisfying to teach than to hear a sermon constantly. Especially when the people you know lecture you with then same things the pastor preaches. Change of pace.... I'm reading for myself!!! stressed I'm annoyed with repetition. Though my interest in God/Jesus/Holy Spirit is still extremely high.... never will change. God is always interesting. I just can't sit still in church. I'm ADHD but not diagnosed... 3nodding
