I see what you are saying, but I don't think you see what I am saying.

I didnt mean to generalize and say that all gay people hate straight people. I understand when you say many are probably just playing it safe. But the type of person I am talking about honestly I dont think cares if they are judged for being gay. Intact, I think they invite it because they enjoy the drama. Like I said in the OP, they are specifically saying they don't like straight people because they are closed minded and less fun. Most of these people who say these things are the people who are claiming strongly to be homosexual and then going and screwing the opposite sex.

As for the whole "gay scene/straight scene" thing, I mentioned that gays complain about bein stereotyped but many of them just feed into it. I am a lesbian. I don't fall into many of the stereotypes of a lesbian. I have a femmenine side and a masculine side. I don't parade around with rainbows everywhere shoving it into people's faces nor do I go whoring at pride fest. In my relationship there is no "pants." There cannot be a "man" of the relstionship because both y girlfriend and i are women and identify as women. Now, this is not MY generalization of what gays are, but this is often how I hear people stereotype them. It really gets old, because not every lesbian or gay is an immature partier, and that's how a lot of people see them.
Calling it a "phobia" is saying that it is either an IRRATIONAL fear of that it is hate. Since a lot of straight people harass, mock, and assault gay people, it's not an irrational fear to be cautious around heterosexual-exclusive groups.

I know the kind of "gays" you are talking about and it is my experience (having been exposed to many, many gay people of all ages) that these sorts of people are the minority of gays.

Also you said this is happening at your school, right? Consider that this might just be a weird trend at your school.

Yes, I know. In my relationship there is no "pants", no "woman" either. And I get that. But I also can participate in things like pride without falling into the "stereotype".

You do realize that 70% and 40% add up to 110%, right?

Being gay and being "from the bad side of town" are not mutually exclusive events, the math is fine. Way to stereotype, though, brosef.
You're not getting the point. She said "the other 40%" or something. I was judging it based on her quantitative phrasing, not the specifics.

Continue to press this and you're just trolling. I was basing it solely on her saying "70%" and then "the other 40%".

It's entirely possible that I'm trolling, but I'm also right. You either misread, skimmed, or have a poor grasp of the English language. There were two independent statements with percentages given. Firstly, that 70% of the school are non-heterosexual. Secondly, that there are "very few sporty or preppy kids" with the possible exception of the 40% from the wrong end of town. That is, a percentage for sexual orientation, and a percentage for subculture and/or socioeconomic background--read: not mutually exclusive events.

Edit: Ah, saw the edit. Never mind then, so long as you're willing to admit you were off base. Happy hunting.

It was the former. I misread. I wasn't even talking about the concepts. I just saw numbers that didn't add up AFTER I read it all. They jumped out at me.

Yeah, I made the same mistake (and had been going to make a post poking fun at it) before I'd actually read through the entire paragraph. Funny how the brain works like that, numbers stick out so much more than words.

Yes, I know. In my relationship there is no "pants", no "woman" either.

I sort of hate that this idea that a homosexual relationship would still need to follow heterosexual patterns is even out there. I have to wonder if there are any significant numbers of homosexual relationships where individuals fulfill heteronormative roles.

I have no idea. I felt urged to say "yes" but I actually don't know, because I don't talk to other gay couples about sex very much. All I know is that my relationship doesn't. We're not "tops" or "bottoms"... we're "switch"es.
you know, this would all be so much easier if people didint give any ******** regarding where people choose to put their genitals at night.

I mean im straight, and i know why im straight, end of story and thats good enough for me. If someone's gay thats cool for them and everything, im not sure how that would ever be of any relevance to me whatsoever though.

I do feel like all of a sudden being bisexual and/or gay has been increasing. To me it seems that a lot of kids at my school are gay for like a month and then they actually admit that "I'm done with the whole gay thing." It's almost as if it really is a fad or another trend. It makes me think that people can actually choose their sexuality.
I believe it is a choice.

Heterophobes are perpetrating the same hate homophobes are. It is stupid.

I did not wake up one day, get out of bed, and say to myself "Herm... I think I am going to like v****a AND penises today". Being bi was no choice of mine.

Edit: Do tell, when did you decide to be straight? I mean really if sexuality is choice, lets not exclude heterosexual folk.

Yeah, it's one of those things that I don't think really has any support one way or another. I just find that besides quirks where particular individuals might be characteristically top or bottom, it comes off as strange to assume traditionally gendered roles. Especially for homosexual relationships.

I don't know how serious I should take someone who refers to people who live on the poor side of any town as "Ghetto". I grew up in what people would consider the "bad/poor" side of town and I'm sure as hell not ghetto. And I'm sure that's not true of all the kids who live in those places in your area.

Anyway.
You're in high school... Everyone has a clique that they belong to.

And secondly. The kids who are claiming to be gay and straight haters aren't even really lesbian or gay.. They're the obnoxious kids who say and do stuff for the shock value. So why the hell does it matter if they're claiming to be gay or doing all the other stuff they do for attention?

Let them have their little snow flake group and carry on with your own life.. If people want to pin you to being one of them.. Don't let them, show them that you aren't one of those kids.

As for the main topic.
I don't consider myself straight either. And I have tons of friends that are from both sides of the fence and some inbetwen as well. We're nice blended group of people in a lot of different ways. I have met a few people that acted the way you mentioned in the op.. But I never payed much attention to them because they weren't worth my time and all the other people in my school felt the same way.

I really didn't mean to make a bad stereotype there. I live in a run down tiny apartment and we are barely considered middle class. I just meant the people who "act" ghetto. It was bad phrasing on my part, especially seeing how most of them live in richie neighborhoods and just hose to act that way.

No problem. It just kinda caught me since you're talking about people who stereo type themself and others.

I live in an area that is similar to the OP's situation. My opinion I know is unpopular, but I stand by it.

My personal thought on this, is that a lot of people are developing sexual fetishes and then claiming that it is their sexuality. THeir sexuality then becomes their identity, and they struggle to find purpose in their life through their sexual fetish.

I personally had a strong sexual desire toward women to the point where I was basically a lesbian. I would only fantasize about women, watch porn about women, and want relationships with women. I only really liked one guy, who I actually started a relationship with and claimed bisexuality. Now, I understand that it was a gradual change of my mind based on past sexual experiences and fetish.

After I stopped feeding my sexual fantasies, they totally stopped. It was kind of like a sexual fast or cleanse. I didn't have sex or actively seek out fantasies about sex at all for around 5 months. I am not a lesbian or a bisexual, I am what nature made me to be, not what my mind created. I do not find my identity in my heterosexuality as i tried to find an identity in my past sexual fantasies. It's what my body is made to do, and in the end what I will choose whether my past fantasies wanted it or not.

How about emotional attraction? I don't feel sexual attraction... at all. Emotionally, I'm attracted to people regardless of sex, and find some people attractive physically regardless of sex.
Rendering sexuality merely, well, sexual, it can be stripped to that. But there is a lot more to sexuality than wanting to have sex with someone.
