Ok I heard this from a friend of mine at the anime store that I go once and a while. Where I live they are passing a law that all Graphic Novels includeing Manga's in bookstores should be covered up. What I mean is they want to put it in a plastic sheet, seal it, and have on the front a blank sheet of paper with only the title of the Novel, who wrote it, and age rateing on there. Also they won't let you take it out of the plastic sheet to tumb throught the pages if anyone is intrested of buying it. And they want to see some ID when buying it so they would know if your the right age to buy it or not.
So what do you think should they pass this law or not.
If they do, the same should be done to romance novels and any other books involving sex. They'd end up spending a lot more paper than needed.

That's an idiotic rule, but it would keep the fanboys from fapping to women with oversized chests. That's something at least, right?
There's a bookstore downtown where I live that does that. I think that if the inappropriate stuff is close to other things, you should have it covered up... Because not everyone wants to see that crap.

But if there's a seperate section that's secluded from the rest of the books, they should just check your ID, and not need to cover it up.
They should absolutely NOT do this! If they did that, they would have to do that to every single book in a bookstore!

That's a rather stupid law. If they only cover it up with a plastic sheet sure but to only have a blank sheet on the front with the title and author. That's nowhere near enough information for a person to decide on buying the book or not. People are going to wind up getting a book that they hate just because they didn't get a chance to preview it. Sure some people take advantage of the graphics novel being unseal and read them without buying but less people are going to want to buy them when they have no guarantee of getting something they like.
They usually wrap all the mature-rated manga in clear plastic.
Well, at least in every bookstore I've been in.
I think that's good enough.
I thought something like that should happen. What i think they should do is separate the innapropriate MATURE manga from the 16+ down to the YOUTH and ALL AGES manga.
covering up stuff isn't going to help, neither is showing I.D. I hope they don't do that here! gonk
It would prevent people from reading and not buying (I have friends who finished the whole manga in 30 minutes...) but it's ridiculous for manga that's appropriate for all ages. How would one even know what the story is about?

Although at some bookstores, they do cover up manga for 16+ or 18+, and id when required. In this instance, I feel it's ok, but they should have the back transparent so people can read what the manga is about.
I think they SHOULD.
Because some stuff, shouldn't be read by certain people.
sounds like what they do to porno movies and magazines in stores that don't put those in their own little section in the back. lol

A lot of bookstores do that for the "Mature Audience" mangas.

Which I don't really care, I don't want to read/look at that anyway.

But I'm 13, and I do NOT want to not be able to buy Death Note just because it's recommended for "Older teens."

WTF is this s**t!

You need to be a certain age to read?
neutral Thats pretty intense.

What are those things? Just all porn or something?

That's pretty ridiculous; it's fine to put clear plastic wrap over the cover, to protect little kids from reading mature manga, and so people can't read the entire book in the store... but how are people supposed to know if a title is interesting or not if they can't even see the cover art or read the description on the back? Plus, honestly, if some 13-year-old kid wants to look at some porno comic, he'll find a way to get it. And if they're so scared of a little kid finding a mature manga, they should have a separate section for books rated 16+, or 18+, instead of shelving them with Tokyo Mew Mew and Sailor Moon.
thats just really stupid. Fortunately i live by a comic store that sells what seems to be all the manga's in the world from G-rated to X-rated and never ask for id.
