Welcome to Gaia! ::

All right, I received the certified letter I was so fretting about...it's a summons. I am required to give testimony in the case against my estranged, the man who raped me. The charges? Felony sexual assault. He's sitting in jail right now.

The letter states that it's a "hearing in the above captioned matter" (the state vs. my estranged), so what exactly does this entail? Is it a full blown trial, or is this to see if the state can make its case? Or does the state already have enough evidence, are they trying to see if they can plea it down or whatever?

I'm honestly horribly ignorant as to the whole legal system, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
They want you to testify? Maybe they're still building the case, then.
I'm not that greatt when it comes to the legal system either, but uf they're summoning you to testify, they've probably get enough evidence for a case. I would take it as a good sign if you're planning on making a case. smile
