James Tyler
Dr. Tyler
The nurse looked back at Rene and grinned mischievously. "So you heard that then?" He asked,"luckily for him, it was his first day here. I didn't throw him out onto the parking lot. That doesn't mean I'm going to let him become one of those doctors who work themselves to death. We need a dead doctor like we need a fire." He shook his head and motioned toward the cup in Rene's hand in a clear sign that he wanted him to swallow those already. Honestly, was he the only sane person around? Doctors who didn't see the point in sleep, nurses who gossiped like school girls, and patients who were uncooperative with the people trying to help them. This was getting slightly ridiculous.
"Don't make me think of something fit for you," he declared finally,"Oh, and it's a holiday today... Or a birthday? I can't remember. Too many holidays and too many birthdays in this country. Anyway, we're celebrating something so there are new things on the menu for today. I was going to let you know you're celebratory breakfast options but I didn't think you'd like being woken up to 'Surprise! There's new food and we're celebrating something but I can't tell you what it is because nobody took the time to explain these holiday things to me! Yay!!' so I just got you your usual." He wasn't from this country and his accent made it very obvious. He barely knew any holidays around here and couldn't understand why birthdays were celebrated. A lot of customs were mysteries to him, actually. He tried hard, though, even if a lot of his attempts weren't appreciated. Everyone liked how he stood his ground and took care of the doctors and anyone else who couldn't or refused to take care of themselves.
He shrugged and looked to the door. "Don't give your new doctor too hard of a time. I think he likes you," he warned the teen, adding an explanation after because he was sure that news would shock Rene,"It's strange how in this country patients and doctors have this wall between them. They're both people. In my country..." He chuckled and went to the door.
"Merry happy holiday or birthday," he attempted awkwardly just before the door shut.
James came in an hour later and gently began checking for bruises or sores like he would do every morning in place of his old doctor. Instead of the usual pokes and prodding, he did it gently and ran his fingertips over his back for a moment to apologize for the unwanted medical touches. "I got to walk out like a grown adult last night," he chuckled once he was finished,"but poor Price..." Price was the nurse who had just left.
"He doesn't even realize the special menu and everything is because it's his birthday."
