Depends on the formula. Several useful Level 1 formulas (Orb Aggregate, Golden Magical Giftbox, Philosopher's Cache) can be made with common items from shops, Towns, Fishing, zOMG, and other Games. And the last two, the Giftbox and Cache, can give you the fancier stuff, if you're lucky.
