Hmm. BSL looks pretty similar to Auslan (Australian sign language). I know some Auslan that I learnt in school and when I was TAing for disabled kids. I don't understand ASL at all though. It's completely different from Auslan.

Have learnt a bit of shuwa (JSL) since coming here. Some of the signs are pretty fun. I like it.

Second, really? I personally think ASL is pretty simple, though I suppose I don't have much to compare it to.
Auslan alphabet looks almost identical to BSL, I think that might be because Australia's language came from England, right? Idek I feel like I learned that some number of years back xD

I guess as an Australia, Auslan was the first sign language I learnt, and therefore what seems 'normal' to me? Like learning a second language will always be more difficult that your native language. I do think it's interesting that English has several different versions of sign language.

It's true, the second language being harder thing. Sign was my fourth language... sweatdrop
Though, I had the most trouble learning my third language (if you can even call it that, because I've completely given up on it and never ever use it and never ever want to). My second language was almost easier than learning Sign.
The only reason England and here have different sign languages is because we're different countries, it doesn't matter that we have the "same" language. Each country wants their own and doesn't want to accept sharing I guess sweatdrop
Except Canada. They don't mind using ASL cx

yeah for progress! what book have you been using? i am just finishing up with the Learning American Sign Language by Tom Humphries, less then 4 classes until my semester is over

Uummm, last year we had Signing Naturally and this year we have The American Sign Language by Baker-Shenk & Cokely
