Welcome to Gaia! ::

I agree with Orb and others. I don't think they should or will rerelease any of the old donation items, but if they made other items for these quests they would have their own value based on how many people want them (for looks) and how hard they are to get. On the other hand, I somehow don't think the new quest system will drain much, if any gold out of circulation. I can imagine a quest costing some gold, but in the end the idea of a quest implies you can't just buy your way through it if you wanted to. It seems like the quest system has a "Word hard, maybe spend a bit of money, and get something cool." concept, not as much of a gold sink concept.

Shay Straylight - The concept about renting is interesting, but how would it appeal to Gaians. The idea of things like property tax and such could easily fix the gold sink problem, but I don't think most Gaian's would like it very much. Currently I feel that the biggest problem with things like Housing 1.5, Gaian Towns, and the Casino, is that they don't cover all Gaians. You don't have to buy a house, and you don't have to gamble in the Casino. You could just abuse the market and horde gold, and there's nothing your really sinking your gold into except maybe some store items, maybe. I guess in the end it doesn't matter if a majority of Gaian's are sinking their gold into the provided sinks.

Anyways, I've talked long enough.

The issue of "new halos" or even "attainable halos" is a touchy one, at best. In my opinion, the actual halos should never be attainable. However. What I do encourage is the possibility of a "halo clone" that would still require upwards of 30 mil, and would be a reward of the questing system. Essentially, I agree with Trisk, but I think it's doubtful at best to imagine the admin ever rereleasing a donation item under any circumstances.

Because they would signify a lot of gold and hard work, these "fake" halos would still be items to be proud of, and what's more, they'd be possible for users to get. Think of Tin Hats. Anyone can get a Tin Hat, technically... you do not have to have joined at any special time. And yet they are significant items, because one must work hard to get one. I believe that the "fake" halos would exist on a similar principle.

Well, if you're really afraid of the Exchange, you could exploit one of your natural talents (art, signatures, anything, really...) for gold.. Or donate lots of money and sell the letters.

Or hold a panties auction to raise money! Or, if it's a case of 900k pure, invest it in donation items, maybe.
The only tangible talent I really have is icon making, and that doesn't exactly work for Gaia. xd

I suppose I could make up songs for people and record them for gold.. o_O But that's... not really... something you're supposed to do. XD

Nar. Methinks I'll try a panties auction once school's out, then I'll be able to pay attention to it and won't give up during the first thirty minutes (like I did with the one I made... a few days ago, actually. xd )

And naw, it's not pure. @_@ As if.

The exchange scares me... I always feel like I'm going to slip up and do something wrong.

And I have a horrible patience...

But if I don't start gaining more for my quest again, I suppose I'll have to try, won't I? domokun

Jas: It's risky, but you could try exchanging with some of it? Big rewards, there.

Boy, you've been bitten by the creative bug latley haven't you? This is a decent thread, I'm tired of all the "inflation is teh suzorz" threads. I keep going back to the point that gaia users aren't the only ones that don't like all the inflation, the admin don't either. They're trying to come up with a solution to the inflation that won't destroy the market but at the same time allow users to get the long sought after donation items that they love. I think patience is the best way to deal with inflation. I'd probably have more to say on the matter but the inflation threads just fry my brain.

Thank you. 3nodding

I think that the best idea the admins have come up with thus far is to have the really old donation items (I'm talking Halos, here) as rewards for the quest system. But the quests would take years to complete. People could have a Halo, but only if they were willing to work solidly for a few years.

I deal with inflation by investing in older donation items. If I need pure, I can get it. 3nodding

Midnight: Thanks for your input.
You know, I've heard several times about a plan to put out quests that would take months or years to complete, but with an assured item at the end. On WoW, there were quests like that, where you put in time, effort, even money, and you got whatever it was that was waiting for you at the end. If the admins instituted these quests, it would certainly help, because it would give some official worth to the donation items instead of letting users determine it at a whim. A halo could still cost 30 million in accumulated gold, and such, but there's something to be said for always having a halo available to those that reach that number.

Some would argue that this method of quelling inflation disenfranchises those who actually donated for the item... I believe that questing contributes to the site as much if not more than a donation because of the time and effort you put into the site for the money needed. A dedicated user base is just as valuable as money for bandwidth... Without one of those two, the other is useless.
<center>How many different solutions to inflation do you think you have seen suggested in the GCD?: Enough.
Out of all of them, which is the most memorable?: 'there shuld b a thing were ppl get baned wen dey overprice da itme'
Again, out of the different solutions, which did you feel was the least likely to have any effect (or most likely to have a negative effect)?: Same as last question.
When people say 'I want new users to have the chance at Ports and Bear Hats', do they mean 'I want Ports and a Bear Hat'?: Yes, they do. Unless, they already have an '03 item from before November.
Do you feel that people want a quick fix to inflation because they don't want to put in the hard work, or another reason?: Exactly.

Nar.

I've been working towards my sash for quite a while now, and I've got about 900k saved up. But the thing is, I seem to be at a complete standstill, and I don't know how to keep moving up...

You're right about the gold sinks, Chee, definitely.

I'm sure that Housing 1.5 and Gaia Towns will definitely remove gold from the economy. I remember reading somewhere that it will cost gold to add more rooms to your guild house (and it will cost gold to buy a guild house, presumably), and it also costs gold to put your house in a neighbourhood (which you need to do if you intend to use Gaia Towns).

With recent events it seems that instead of just giving us items for free, the admins expect us to pay for our items. The Gambino Donation drive... Having to pay for the signs...

Things like that.
