Welcome to Gaia! ::

Empyrean Spirit

Oh well, you know, we all have our sour days. But I hear the sweetest wine comes from grapes touched by frost.

I'm afraid I don't venture terribly far outside of a couple of forums, and I'm not in a habit here of debating. There have been instances where I've wanted to temporarily tear a page out of a magazine so that I can still read it, but that small piece of page you couldn't quite tear off is still there in some form or another. Perhaps the new issue has similar pages for whatever reason, and it's at a point where you have to decide whether or not to unsubscribe. You could apply this to anything in your life, online or offline.

Speaking more specifically, I would hope I haven't done anything to particularly sour a person's view of me but it's naive to imagine that it hasn't happened a couple of times. I am disappointed with the monopoly of a handful of users who release helpful guides and threads because of the very issue you touched; perhaps I don't really want to be friends with them or risk the possibility of an interaction, but I--even in a small instance--enjoy that convenience they provide. Do I shop at a business that donates money to a cause I'm against? It's convenience that kills our confidence.

Wild Bookworm

I've just checked my ignore list. There's nobody on it. I don't know what that says about me. Either I'm very tolerant, or very lazy lol Actually, the two things could very well go together.
I don't generally find it necessary to ignore anyone, I can just avoid their topics. No-one's ever harassed me personally. Getting a snarky reply or whatever in a thread doesn't bother me that much. I don't sweat the small stuff, and really everything on Gaia is small stuff in the cosmic scheme of things.
There used to be names there, back in the days of image trolls, and one person I remember who used to give me a major pain in the butt, but I think they have left the site. So...haven't ignored anyone in years.
If there were people who provided a service I found useful, but had a horrible personality (and I can't think of anyone like that off-hand or am not aware of how they might interact with others), I guess I would just skip their posts and still use the service.
However, anyone really messes with me personally, I'll pop them on ignore faster than a speeding bullet, no problem!
Come to think of it, I do tend to be a bit oblivious of in-fighting and personality clashes unless someone draws my attention to it, and then I'm like eek
Head in the clouds, I suppose xd

I'm best pals with the ignore button. Fortunately the things I commonly ignore people for aren't big GCD problems. I like to have my online experienced cleansed of annoyances, I come here to have fun and relax. Same with other websites.

I agree with this. I've come across some people who are simply so damn awful in how they post, their attitude, and their special snowflake entitlement (i.e. you're entitled to my opinion) that the ignore feature is made for them... and I'd not see anyone less than for exercising their right to ignore someone.

I personally don't usually use the ignore feature often. I usually prefer to gloss over a person's post. If they're habitually caustic for the sake of being caustic (and seen that in SF) then I realize they've nothing to add in my life, they're a waste of time and it's better just to move on.

I used to post quite often on the GCD but the constant repeat of inflation threads kinda got old at some point, I just strayed away to just hanging out with my friends, playing dress up and coming back for my daily beef in the update threads. I think I only ever ignored one person from this forum because he/she was being an outright p***k from the start, other than that, my ignore list isn't very crowded....and I don't take this site seriously because at the end of the day, it is for my entertainment, so I am pretty much allergic to drama and such. Won't say I don't like reading about it though. ninja

I don't really post much in the GCD, I lurk for the thread lists and interesting topics like this for the most part, but I enjoy the people here.

Though talking about blocking people, I don't do it unless I absolutely have to, which means the person has made me feel legitimately threatened. Luckily that only happened once. Though I absolutely have an abrasive personality and I don't check myself before posting a lot of the time so I end up on a lot of blacklists, whether it be for my opinion or just what I wrote in general, which is why I state I win when people block me in my signature. It's petty but I like to hope it makes people think twice about whether or not they really want to put me on their blacklist.

I'd like to add that apparently someone who has me blacklisted is now one of the list creators. Now I can't really participate if there aren't multiple threads made for updates.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I believe mine's the lost in rythm person and the only interaction ive had with 'em was about selling art.

Its tempted to be like "yo either stop making lists or unblock people" but at the same time its easier to make a discussion.

I wish announcements WERE th threads for discussions

For me I've been blocked by someone who was harassing me to the point that it was obvious they had some serious issues with social interactions. They kept sassing me for their own misunderstanding on a stance I had (it was about not being able to name the CEO which I think is total bullshit and she went off about how how I shouldn't post addresses and all this other stuff... and I responded trying to say that I understand and agreed with them but that a name was not nearly the same thing given the past how cool Craig had been etc... I told them I'd sass them back if they didn't stop. They blocked me.) However knowing that they have like what seems to be half the Site Feedback and GCD on ignore (looked up their topics shows no replies so I'm not surprised ha) shows that in the end it saved me aggravation and the temptation to be an aggressive b***h... xd

Haha, that's the person who has me blocked. I believe mine had something to do with an interaction in a thread she made about the MP in the site feedback. It was so long ago I couldn't think of any specifics beyond that. I don't even remember if I was disagreeing with her not. I'd love to post the same thing, but at the same time it's not worth a report for circumventing the ignore system.

I like the idea of being able to talk about the item right there on the announcement, but I love lists for the list portion more just because I'm primarily a lurker in this forum.

Apocalyptic Trash

I only ignore a user if they've personally attacked me and will not stop. But that was mostly happening in the Avatar Arena. lol

I don't ignore anyone in the GCD, I think this is the only forum where I haven't actually put anyone on ignore no matter how annoying/ignorant/sour they are. I just roll my eyes at the post and scroll on since I don't feel like getting into arguments. I just leave it alone and then I forget about the post. XD

Hellraiser

I'm essentially lurker. I experience this forum mainly through reading what other people have written. It's cool and I've intended to keep it that way. I write few posts to random threads almost every time I log in, and having some actual conversation feels like cool idea but NAAAH. I'm too awkward for that, ya know.

I've never ignore listed anyone. Of course I don't agree with every sigle thing I read, but I like being exposed to ideas and opinions which do not aling with my own. If anything, it's good way to get reasons to think about things and life and internet. At the best at least.

Of all the cases I know, I know only one person who has ignore listed me, wasn't on GCD tho. Anyway, we had pretty different outlooks on subject we were talking about, and I think she took that bit too personally. She left the thread after writing bunch of irritated replies to me and couple of other people participating in discussion, and then ignored every one of us who she disagreed with. I used my mule later to see what she has written for me, but later I think I shouldn't have. It wasn't worth it.

Well, I can't say I have ignored people here, cause I have no friends in Gaia at the moment. eek

Bloblike Cutie-Pie

There are people I ignore... And then take off of my ignore list when I want to see whatever stupid thing they've said recently.

The gcd seems more like a reality show to me, everybody vying for attention...

Stubborn Gifter

I never put people on my ignore list unless they are really harassing me or being a douche 24/7. However, I do know two who put me on ignore over petty stuff. Dunno if there are more that I don't know.

Truth be told, if I don't want to talk to the person, I'll just end my conversation and move along. No need to continue with the conversation as well as putting someone on the ignore list. But I will admit that it annoys me if people QUOTE me first and then put me on ignore list. That's not how it works. Quoting means you WANT to talk to the person as well as getting the person's attention. Not the opposite. D<

I don't ignore a lot of people. Only those I know I will have problems with. Like this one time I saw a self proclaimed fascist, racist, and anti-feminist in SF and I noped the ******** away to my ignore button.
