Hi everyone,
Ask The Admin takes place on (almost) every Monday at 5pm PT in the Gaia Community Discussion forum. The premise is straightforward - a group of us here in the office get together and answer user questions for about an hour or so. We've been holding ATAs pretty much since the site really got going years ago and only miss it on rare occasions, such as when Monday is an office holiday or we're really shorthanded for some reason. And even then we'll try to reschedule.
ATA can be a bit crazy, given that we typically field hundreds and hundreds of questions in that hour. To help you get the most out of the event, we've put together this list of tips on how to participate.
Tips to get the most out of ATA
-Don't take it personally if we don't answer your question. We do our best to answer as many questions as we can. But you guys outnumber us significantly, and it's impossible for us to answer everything, especially when you consider the time it takes us to put together and type out a (hopefully) thoughtful response.
-Do keep your questions as brief as possible. As mentioned above, we're going through tons of content in a very short timeframe. Anything we can read and respond to quickly is much more likely to be answered.
-Do read through the thread after ATA is over, especially if we didn't answer your question. We tend to get a lot of repeat questions (understandable in this format) so we'll often start skipping over duplicates. There's at least a decent chance we answered someone else who had your question earlier.
-Don't copy and paste your question over and over to try to get a response. That's annoying both to us and to your fellow attendees, and actually makes us less likely to answer.
-Don't use ATA to report bugs. Squashing bugs is very important to us, which is why our devs regularly check the Bug Reports and Technical Support forum. But in ATA we're moving too fast to investigate bugs, and because we're taking in so much information, it's unlikely we'll remember the specifics of what you told us.
We'll add to this list as we think of more tips, but hopefully this will help you get the most out of the session. And we hope you join us at our next ATA!
