If they're going to adapt the book more faithfully then I approve. The original film, as good as it was, was not an accurate representation of the original graphic novel, and I'd like to see that graphic novel more faithfully represented on the big screen. At the very least I hope the new film gets more people interested in the graphic novel. Not many people know that the old film was based on a comic at all, which isn't surprising as it's part of a more underground level of indie comics that existed at the time, before publishers like Image were turning indie-level, creator-owned comics into mainstream successes (still hoping for a Saga movie).
For what it's worth, the creator, James O'Barr, is still heavily involved in the new film, and he has control over the soundtrack, which he's said will feature classic Joy Division and The Cure; music that's frequently alluded to in the actual book. So that's nice.
