Do comic/manga creaters really draw on paper as small as the book before it printed or do they draw on normal sized paper and its shrunk down when its printed?
For the American comics industry, artists normally work in a larger size, roughly 10 inches wide by 15 inches tall. (This varies from company to company.)

The measurements for Japanese manga are a little different, and I don't think their original art is as large as Americans use, but it is usually larger than the printed version.
