After posting a few times, people started to talk to me, and PFF told me how I could join and such. I've had 4 accounts cause of hackers so I lose track of these things. I know I wasn’t there on the first 300 or so pages, I checked, but probably in the 1,000 at least. I’ve probably won like 10K from this thread. But PFF donated a lot of gold and items, too. So I’m going to guess almost 100K with donations and items and stuff.
I've created many threads and wished they could be as good as PFF's. I dunno how she does it, lol. I try and try, and I get friends on here, but I guess I seem to be missing something...LOTS OF GOLD! I guess now a days, that’s what keeps people around. So good job PFF! :] I wish and hope that this thread will continue on its journey of many years. THE HISTORY OF THE THREAD

"My first quest was for emo glasses. Today I'd hardly consider that a quest and, in fact, if anyone came to my thread today and said they were question emo glasses, I'd buy them right away for them."

"My second quest, a big goal, was for the ducky hat. Those little duckies were so cute and unlike any other gaian item at the time. What other item from 2005 surrounded you with cute little animals? I discovered that the chatterbox was always full of chatty personalities and made it my main source of gold."

"Slowly I reached my ducky goal and also reached the realization that, though the chatterbox was the best place for me to earn gold, it was also cluttered with immaturity, what I found to be inappropriate RPing, leet speak, and a desperate cry for attention at any cost. At this point, I really didn't know which direction to go with my avatar but noticed so many others with dream avatars and advertising them adimately."

"I searched gaia and didn't really find anything particularly eye catching... except for the Horns of the Demon. At this time, they were around 80K. I had nothing better to do and I figured 'what the hell, go for it', so I did."

"I finalized the decision by following others' examples and creating a quest thread. I called it 'Now You See It, Now You Don't: Poll Changing Thread.' I liked getting gold from polls and figured I would be able to change it whenever I wanted so that I could get poll gold."

"Within the first few days I noticed a lot of other people advertising their quests and asking for donations in my thread. As much as I wanted to, I regretfully informed them that, because my quest was for something so expensive, I wasn't able to donate to their quest. As the price of the Horns rose, so did my determination. I added an avatar contest to help with income, yet still allowing a good prize that was worth the entrance fee."

"Donation requests continued to wander in and now that I had collected a good amount of money, I'd begun to feel bad for not donating. The price of my quest was rising so I couldn't pause to help others, all I could honestly offer was my word - "as soon as I get my horns, anything I make after that will be used to help others." It became my daily mantra, not only as an answer to donation requests, but also as motivation to my goal."

"Once the Horns hit 100K, the price began to raise a considerable amount daily. I became frantically desperate. I was inching closer everyday and at night, while I slept, it wriggled a few more inches away. The people in my thread - whom I had begun to consider 'regulars' and good friends - shared the excitement and panic I was going through that day I reached my goal. Just out of reach, I got a donation of 7K that allowed me to FINALLY purchase my lovely dream. I made it known to everyone in the next few weeks that I was still standing by my mantra and as soon as I refilled my gold supply, I would help others."

"I slowly began adding games, contests, raffles, and all the while changing the polls and chatting to everyone who came through. I did my best to keep people happy and donate to causes that I saw fit. I went around to other threads to see what they were doing that I could do better. Dice games were popular but too difficult. I made three games, no entrance fee, and allowed a handful of winning numbers. I also found numerous threads that asked you to answer hundreds of questions (that I found to be boring and repetative) for post gold. I decided to create odd and fun questions people would WANT to do as more of a game rather than a task. I also decided that they deserved more than just the post gold for dedicating their time to MY questionnaire. I had also begun to raffle monthly items which I got by donating real money to gaia."

"At some point during all this growth, I decided there was a more appropriate name for the thread. It not only represented what the thread was meant to do, but also what it had come to mean to me; 'Now You See It, Now You Don't; GOLD Giving, FRIEND Making Thread.'"

"A fantastic surprise happened on February 21, 2009; my wonderful thread was chosen to be a community spotlight. I was SWAMPED with so many new digital faces, so many entries in the avi contest, hundreds who stepped up to the challenge of my questionnaire (which at this time had expanded to timed challenges), so very many who participated in the dice games and hundreds of thousands of gold went to all the winners during what I consider to be the most stressful and exciting week of my gaia life. I was constantly busy answering PM's, updating contest winners, sending and accepting trades. On the first day, my inbox reached 98% of the inbox limit. All of the first day was dedicated to answering PM's, which some people didn't get replies until 4 hours later since I was so backed up (not to mention at work at the time!) This onslaught of gaians lasted about a week and caused the thread to literally plow through hundreds of pages a day, passing page 30,000 in a breeze."

"With 50k pages under the thread's belt, a resident thread artist was overdue."

"As long as I am part of gaia, this thread will stay alive. There are plenty of days when I feel absolutely crappy and come to gaia and see how happy people are when they come to my thread. It reminds me that the effort I put into helping others does work and keeps thriving. I collected positive comments that thread dwellers made towards me and my thread and put them on the front page, not only to let chatterbox wanderers know they've come to the right place, but also to remind myself that one person's actions and dedication can create something so massive, so beautiful, so structured and so friendly; it can be inspiring."

FAQ on the thread artist

Q. WHAT IS A THREAD ARTIST?
A. A thread artist is an artist PFF has chosen and who has agreed to do art once a week (minimum) for the active 'threadies' of NYSE,NYD (this thread)

Q. HOW MUCH IS THE ART?
A. The art is free!

Q. HOW CAN I WIN FREE ART?
A. The more often you post, the better your chance of winning art. I go through the posts to see who has posted at least 5 times in the last week to see who qualifies. That list gets sent to the artist and he/she chooses the winner.

Q. I HAVE BEEN POSTING A LOT BUT HAVEN'T GOT ART, WHAT GIVES?
A. There could be a few reasons why. Overall remember that no one is guaranteed art and there are many threadies to choose from.
Firstly, make sure you haven't done something silly like very long page-stretching posts (which include quoting first and second page content), because those have a likelihood of being deleted and won't go towards your post count. Secondly, posting 5 times in one day is more safe than posting once every day (since you don't know what day I will be checking... or do you?). Thirdly, if you have been in the same outfit, you may want to try and switch it up. Our artist has the last say in what avatar is chosen (or not chosen) and it could be based on your outfit.
