Welcome to Gaia! ::

A cold refreshing gust of wind greets you as you step inside the small, dimly lit shop, wooden floorboards creaking underneath, a tinkling of small bells can be heard overhead as the cold air meets the sauna that is summer. With a sigh of reliefe you wipe your head of the sweat that had built up from the short jaunt between the train station and... Where was this exactly? You can't recall having been here before, everything seems slightly different, an electric connection runs throughout the shop, and something odd, something... scary, is watching your every move, but you can't put a name or face to it. As you nervously and timidly step further into the cool air you notice something. There's no sound in this shop, no buzzing of electric, no whistling of air-conditioning, so where is the cool air coming from?

The boards underfoot creak with each step, bearing your weight reluctantly. Motes of dust swirl through a pristine beam of sunlight shining through the back. Although wooden crates are stacked ceiling high, there appears to be no goods out on display... The sign on the window did say open... didn't it? A quick glance back at the door confirms it, the red 'closed' side crooked and glaring back at you. You feel compelled to wander further in, to find out what's inside, reaching a rather dirty, greying wooden counter you lean your hands on it, careful to test it's strength before leaning over to get a look at the papers lying askew on top, it looks like squiggles, you can't recall seeing anything like it in your life, aside from an old old documentary on vikings, you wonder if this is the original runic alphabet. Even stranger, there's no till to be found.Just papers upon papers of handwritten ruins, appearing to be correspondence as the handwriting differs on a few.

"O...kay..." You say aloud, your voice ringing in the silent shop, and eerie chill waves down your spine, hair standing on end as a voice replies from seemingly nowhere.

"Back here" You spin around and take a more careful look at the shop, it's dimly lit, seemingly only by natural light, a pair of old, dilapitating, crooked and turned stairs lies to the right of the old counter, and to the left a large square arch, nothing fancy or extreme. You cautiously bring yourself to the edge and peer in, this room is colder than the last, your breath can be seen in long trails and your skin pimples.

"Hello?" Your voice echos through the almost empty room, eyes straining to see further in, this room appears bigger than the last, making one wonder exaclty how big this shop was.

"Heyy" a cheery voice greets you, louder this time, as your eyes adjust you can begin to discern a petite figure sitting on... something... a crate? her hair is braided and pulled into an intricate self woven net of hair in the back. A simple, but long and out of date green dress stretches from her neckline to toe, sleeves from shoulder to wrist, pale, almost glowing white skin peeking out from her dress where allowed. She wears no decorations, but her eyes shine like moonstone in the dark room. Upon moving slower, drawn to her spot naturally, you can see she has a small, round nose and plump, wide lips that break out in a smile as she clasps her hands together and bows her head slightly in greeting. She seems Very out of place in a world of today, as did the entire shop. "Velkomn in" Her speech is thick with a northern accent.

"Uh, thanks. So.. What sort of shop is this?" You ask, in your opinion politely.

"Vi kall iht a animel stuhr"Unsure of her accent, you nonetheless assume it's a pet shop. 'Vi saell you exotic animels. Animels att vi thinkd har died long aygo" Again, you guess that she's selling some sort of endangered species, your eyes widen in excitement, what better to remove the boredom of summer than a possibly dangerous animal!?

"Oh yeah? Can I see what you've got now?" You asked excitedly, a grin spreading across your face.

"Jaaa, but I shuld tell yoo that vi onlee hav one just nao" Your grin fades

"Oh.. only one? Well, It'd still be interesting! Can I see?" She smiles and nods, walking away to a corner of the room and bringing back a crate, it looks heavy and as she sets it down upon the one she had been sitting on a cloud of dust arises. She calmy waves it awake as you almost choke. Pulling off the heavy lid, a glow appears from within, and warmth radiates throughout your body and you're compelled to lift an egg from the crate, the woman doesn't stop you, on the contrary, she smiles.

"It seems yoo hav fauwnd one yoo lajk?" You nod, struck dumb by the warm, featherlight movements under the shell. "Purhaaps vi kan majk a deel...?"

She goes on to explain that the animals were found in long-since abandoned caves unsure of what they were, she and her friend picked them up. The eggs would not hatch without having a specific person, so they opened up the 'shop' in order to help find homes, and study the creatures. They noted that while the eggs thrived in cold weather, they hatched quickest in more established 'homes', rather than camps or the back of someone's car when forgotten. She provided him with instructions that, for the chick to hatch within two weeks, he would leave through the door in the back, a task that greeted him with the cold, crisp winds of fall, yellowing fields of hay ready for the last harvest and a path only brown by foot and cart travel. There you had two options, you could follow the path to town and try to make a living there. Or wander out into the relative wild and try to make your way with your (for now) small companion. Along either way, she said, there would eventually be merchants selling other rare, odd animals, and to watch out for wilder ones, ones more dangerous than just wild boars and wolves....
