I'm not an expert in these matters, but I am an aspiring animator. Vehicles are not the easiest things to animate.

Consider all the texture and moving objects (rotating fans for instance) involved in animating one of the jeeps, or airships. 3D animation allows for depth and weight that 2D work would lack.

I...really? I doubt the vehicles are the easiest thing to animate to be honest. Cars in motion have been in CGI in every animation thing I've ever watched. Can you name any exceptions because I really can't think of any that were done particularly well atm.
