How to make a character
There is a form on the second page of this where you can create your character. All you need to go over are the races, the map with all the information about the places, and to tell me what kind of role you want to play. Just submit the form here, do not roleplay here : O
Setting
~The Shadows~ is set in the fantasy continent of Torei. Inspired by Feudal Japan, Torei is home to a multitude of different races, monsters, and Kami; spirits of the land. Will you be a honorable Samurai? A shady tea peddler? A busy farmer tending to everday life? It's up to you!
~The Shadows~ Main Roleplay
This is the main roleplay group consisting of four people. Whoever gets into this group has to have the free time to reply consistently and to learn about the world. These guys and gals will be on a epic quest, and will be receiving a lot of free doodles and other surprise things if they keep up the rp. If for some reason someone has to quit, a spot will open and others can apply. (I will put up a notice here on the main page.)
Other Adventures
Anybody else who wants to rp has the option of either creating their own little adventure with me or having a few people with them on another quest DM'd by me. These are considered the side stories to The Shadows, and are taking place at the same exact time as that group. You'll still be important, of course, but the adventure might not be as epic as the main storyline. Maybe it's going against a Daimyo, or getting revenge on a ronin. Who knows, but it'll be intimate, and you'll also receive free doodles.
Casual Rping
Don't get too stressed out on making your character, or roleplaying and not knowing like, every single thing about the area. This is casual. A lot of times you guys make the best stories. If for some reason you goof on a big detail, there's always the edit button : P
How to fight
When attacking, blocking, using magic, or resisting magic you roll a d10. The Highest number wins, so for example if an Oni attacks you and rolls a 7 and you block and roll a 5 you're going to take a hit. 10's are critical hits and 1 are critical failures. If the Oni rolls a 7 and you roll a 1 for your block you're going to get really hurt. You don't want to know what happens when that Oni rolls a 10 and you roll a 1, especially late game. biggrin
Stats
There aren't many stats in this rp. It's basically dice against dice. You don't level up, you get more items that add or subtract to your dice. Though each race has their circumstantial additions (like Garuda get +2 to their attack roll against Naga), other then that it's armor, trinkets, and all that fun stuff.
Special Abilities
Sometimes items I give you give you special abilities, like getting to attack an extra time a round, or doing out of combat things. If you have any questions on how a particular item is used, just PM or spoiler your comments : 3
Rules
- Please, no steering the ship!
Meaning, don't take control of the story. Like, of course you're free as a rper to do actions, and to try and sway events, but don't make something ridiculous happen... like having a monster that I don't control come and attack us, or automatically one hit K.O. my NPC's????
- Keep track of your stats
Maybe you got a new, magical weapon from me that adds +2 to your ability to hit. Please remember that when you are rolling dice, for I am not a very smart woman and have the memory of a goldfish, that you add this +2. :B Besides, there isn't that many different stats.
- Post at least a couple of sentences
I don't mind non lengthy texts, because hey, this is supposed to be a little more casual then most rps (I think its casual.. is it? >__> ) If it's in character for your dude to be like.. "I agree." and that's it, then go for it. You won't win any points for like, being outstanding, but I'm not going to boot you for it.
- No mature stuff!
Abide by Gaian law, none of that adult stuff!!!
- Disappearing
If for some reason you are not responding, in a weeks time I will have your character fall unconscious or have some other random thing happen to them. After a month of not responding, I will open a new slot up for someone to take your place. If it's just you and me, It's a little more lax on this rule, but if you are in the main group, or another sub group, there's other people that are counting on you to reply.
Other stuff
If you want, you can roleplay as a NPC.
Let's say you really want to rp someone else other then your character. Like a bad guy or like, a store owner. I'll let you, we just need to talk about it a bit to make sure the direction your going is going to line up with the story : )
Note: Just so I make it clear, I'm not a historian! This isn't based upon real life Japanese or any other Eastern Asian history, language or religion. So don't take things you learn hear as real fact. Just had to put it out there! : )
Torei is one part of a even larger system of big islands.
Raksha - A small merchant island full of shady doings and home to a variety of scallywags. Home to a variety of races.
Daigon - A Kitsune and Human haven. Pretty flat area with lots and lots of settlements.
Kishin - The great forest of Kishin is the home of all Oni.
Nogu - Home to a hodgepodge of all sorts, Nogu is a more foresty Daigon.
Kyuta - Probably the most beautiful place on the map and populated by all kinds. The lakes there are quite a sight. Su'rei is the Garuda home mountains.
Hika - Farmer's land. Lots and lots of poorer but well cared for people live here. Mostly made up of Kitsune and Humans.
Obashi - The Shogun lives here. It is surrounded by a great wall bordering the river. Not many people come in, and not many people leave unless for military business. Self sustaining. Mostly humans.
Rashan - Known to house some of the best cooks. Many wild and rare spices and medicinal herbs grow in this rolling hills region. Lots of settlements abound. Filled with all sorts of different races.
Gyodan - Home to the infamous ninja clan, not many know about the inner workings of its smallest hidden corners. Lots of forests, and some high level areas. The most populous race are Kitsune.
Byuta - Craggy shorelines and not much else. Naga make their home here. The small amount of inhabitants include all sorts. Most are hardened sailors.
Fara - Full of lush forests, a favorite spot for nobility of all kind.
-Aksha - A mysterious piece of land, Aksha is not visited by any of the Playable Races.
Surama - A rather remote island chain that dabbles more in artistry due to the beautiful shores that have a aurura borelis constantly going. The rich and the famous come here on vacation, including the reclusive Emperor who resides in another region apart from Torei.
-Shadowlands - Mysterious and always dark, no one goes in and nothing comes out.
Do I have to roleplay to get a commission?
No! Please, don't feel like you have to.
I see your main RP group is full. I want to play, what do we do?
We make our own! Fill out the character form, specify if you wouldn't mind other people in the rp with us or not, what kind of rp you'd prefer (horror, love, dungeoneering, etc) and you get your own little adventure. It won't be interacting with the main cast, but you'll be transported somewhere else, on your own quest.
How many RP's are you doing at a time?
I'll only go up to four or five roleplays at a time. At most two big roleplays, and the rest will be short roleplays lasting a month or two. If I find I have more free time to do more, then I'll tack on other spots.
It says ALL your RP slots are full, how long do I have to wait?
Typically a month at least.
I see someone has dropped out of the main RP and I want to join. How do I catch up with the story?
There will be updates to the second page and I will also be summarizing events in my shadowsrp wordpress. Also, sometimes it's good for roleplay if you actually DON'T know what's going on. That way it is truly more authentic when your character is like 'beholders? What happened with the beholders?'
Is there anybody else we can rp with? Are you the only DM?
Unfortunately for the moment, I am. I know I'm not the BEST roleplayer, or best DM for that matter, but until we've established the world a little more, no one else can take up the mantle and DM for you.
Can I make up my own race?
Sure, why not? This isn't a place set in stone. Just make sure they have a legitimate reason for being on the continent though.
What happens if YOU stop replying altogether?
If for some reason I am not replying diligently, it's probably because of RL issues. If something happens and I'm unable to continue the stories, all of you will get free pictures and prizes for atonement.
What do I get for RPing?
Free doodles, free animations (if I'm up for it), a chance at a new sick item every week, having fun, making new friends, filling up your free time with nice people.
How do prizes work?
Prizes are awarded to those that go up and above the recommendations of roleplay. Maybe making a picture, beating a boss single handedly, roleplaying amazingly, donating money, or if I need help roleplaying NPC's! There's only one prize every week and only one winner, and that's amongst ya'll. Yea it's nice to get a prize, but don't be sad if you don't get one, there's always next week! And the more prizes you get, the least likely the next week you'll get one. : O So choose wisely when you want to go out of the way to do something.
Also, prizes vary in value. One week it might be something worth 1,000,000,000, the other 70,000,000,000!
If I don't think anybody has done anything spectacular, I'll reward it to the person who has not received anything as of yet.

Hey! You can call me Foltztron, Scribbles, Foltzy, Dungeon Master Sama, it don't matta. I've been drawing all my life, starting with DBZ and Pokemon, and now I mostly focus on my own original stuff. I've been roleplaying since fantart central was a thing (lmao, like 10-11 years) with a big gap during my college years. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in English, so I'm ... okay at writing...
