The GIMP: Where are the primitives?

Does GIMP have primitive shapes?

I've had GIMP for a while - current version 2.2.17.
I cannot find where the primitive shapes are. I can make a straight line by holding down SHIFT and dragging the mouse, but that's it. If I want basic shapes such as circles, ovals and rectangles, I trudge over to MS Paint, make 'em, save 'm and copypasta 'em.

Is that the only way?

Straight Line:
Click the pen tool, that looks like the one with nib, and click on the desired place.
Then make another click on another spot, and a line appears.
Click 'Stroke Line' on the tool bar.

To get a Rectangle:
-Choose the Rectangle Select Tool.
-Make desired shape.
-Fill with the Bucket Fill Tool.

To get a Perfect Square:
-Choose the Rectangle Select Tool.
-Press Shift while making desired shape.
(Don't press Shift before making the shape, or it won't work, do it after you've started. Let go of the right mouse button before you let go of Shift.)
-Fill with the Bucket Fill Tool.

To get an Oval/Ellipse:
-Choose the Ellipse Select Tool.
-Make desired shape.
-Fill with the Bucket Fill Tool.

To get a Perfect Circle:
-Choose the Ellipse Select Tool.
-Hold shift while making desired shape.
(Don't press Shift before making the shape, or it won't work, do it after you've started. Let go of the right mouse button before you let go of Shift.)
-Fill with the Bucket Fill Tool.

To do all of the above, only with a border rather than block color:
-Follow the steps towards making your desired shape.
-Drift towards the Menu Bar at the top.
-Go into the Select Menu and go down to Border....
-Type in desired chunkieness of the line you want.
-Press Okay.
-Fill with the Bucket Fill Tool.


I usually just do Triangles by hand because I couldn't find a quick method of doing it. Hope this helps in any case. 83

That helps, Jitaroo. The circle and square selections were irritating because as soon as I made them and clicked elsewhere, they disappeared. Didn't know they had BORDERS available...aw'right!
