Come one, come all!

The time has come for the longtime Gaian the Wizard Random Sempai to throw open the doors to his vault of wonders and attempt to thank the many, many friends he’s made over the years.

This is an art contest not only for myself, but for all of the threadlings who have spent many an hour asking stupid questions and getting stupid answers. The thread still exists, a relic of the early days of Gaia, it can be found HERE.

The current plan is to run this contest from now until July 12th, 2014. This may be amended if there is enough interest in extending the deadline, but I will at least try to keep artists who meet this first deadline in mind when the time passes.

UPDATE: Due to a flood of last minute entries and request, an extension until 10/12 has been put in place. Current plans are to automatically reward all current entrants with a bonus.

Wizard Random Sempai: (AKA: Wizard Random, The Wizard, "Wiz" )

The Wizard was one of the first people to settle in the land of Gaia. When he was a recent graduate of his Magic College, he came here seeking friends and some excitement. Finding flitting from place to place a chore, he chose to set down roots in the chatterbox swamp. He found a mountain which was obscured by the mists and tall trees of the swamp, and using his magics to form a cave that was dry and livable. There he set up shop as a guru of all things, meant to dispense advice and information. As time went on, the swamp grew larger, but the Wizard's magics kept the mountain (somewhat) high and dry. Some travelers who stopped by chose to stay with him, and the wizard would always make sure spaces was available, whether they were just passing through or looking for a home of their own.
Those who chose to settle in became his threadlings. Now his cave is one of the oldest places still in use in Gaia, and he owes a lot of that to his friends.

The wizard is a bit on the tall side, though but too much, he has a youthful face, blue hair and green eyes. He dresses in blue robes, and he's never without a pair of gold rectangular spectacles on his nose.

The Wizard generally doesn't use magic unless he absolutely has to. He has specialized in time magic, but he also has the more general powers expected of a wizard as well. He's a bit of a homebody, unlike his wife, and ironically he's deathly afraid of flying.



SuperJen:: (AKA: “Jen” )

SuperJen is the Wizard’s longtime wife and companion. She’s a world traveler, explorer, and storyteller as much as the Wizard is a homebody. With her trusty umbrella, and a bit of telekinesis, she’s able to fly over even the most perilous terrain. Her umbrella also acts as her primary weapon when required. Often times she’s away exploring or working on her own mysterious projects. She often stops back at the mountain to rest, to see her husband, and exchange books as she always has a few on her person, usually including a travel log of her adventures. While many might question the sometimes long distance relationship, anyone who gets to know them would see the Wizard and SuperJen share a deep love of stories and knowledge which keeps them talking into the night at times. Even when he’s at his most dour, Superjen can bring a smile to the Wizard’s face.



Kai LittleBlacksmith: (AKA: “Kai”, “Emperor Kai”, “teh sex”)

Kai is the left hand girl of the mountain. (Seeing as the Wizard is left-handed and all) She came upon the mountain in the earliest days and saw what a wreck it was. With a bit of elbow grease and making sure the Wizard kept to his duties, she helped to make it not just a place of learning, but a home for many more weary travelers and denizens. The Wizard quickly declared her his apprentice and she is a fastidious administrator with a sharp memory. The Kai’s skill with magic is still developing, but her knowledge of the Wizard’s library makes her an indispensable asset.



Kelwyn:: (AKA: “Kel”)

Kelwyn is an ambassador of a fairly secretive and insular race of elves. She ventured outside her home to see what the world offered and she found her way to the mountain in search of wisdom, and upon seeing his library, she decided to make it a regular stop. The Wizard often puts her to use as an envoy to people and places that might trust an elf better than they might trust a Wizard. In return, the Wizard has granted her freedom to enter and leave the mountain as she likes, and would do just about any favor she asked. She's bookish and quiet, but fiercely loyal.



mcm:

mcm came to the mountain as a spammer and general nuisance, but The Wizard and his friends quickly managed to win him over and make him see the errors of his ways. A longtime associate of the Wizard and occasional moderator of Gaia itself, he seeks to keep order, though he also has a great sense of humor.



Shadowstar AKA Shad, Oneesan

Shadowstar arrived at the Wizard's Mountain in search of information. At the time, she was the leader of a group of spies, a public face for the Guild of Shadows. She watched as the mountain's following grew, and eventually found that her loyalties had changed. She left the Guild, bringing an army of squirrels to the mountain-- an army that knew how to fight spammers and how to stay quiet and listen for information. She wears a wreath of their skulls on her head, both as a tribute to the fallen and a warning to the disloyal. Occasionally, she leads them into battle against the eternal enemies of the Mountain-- spammers.



Kippy sneeze: (AKA: “Kippy”, “Kip”, “Kipsie”)

Kippy is one of the reclusive artists of the mountain, here for the quiet like some of the others. She has a bad habit of accidentally dying in the oddest ways, but luckily the Wizard keeps a very large stock of healing and resurrection potions on hand. She is an unfortunate combination of mischievous and clumsy, which at best foils her pranks, and at worst, adds to her death toll. She has an artist-alliance with Rei in which they do srs bsns, for srs.



Rosaleendhu: (AKA: "Rose" )

Pegasus hime's sister, and a young noble, she came to the mountain when Gaia encountered a temporal paradox which erased an entire day, so no one can really confirm she ever really arrived, but somehow she was there when the dust settled. Her hobbies are bantering with her sister and hording books, because that library degree has to be good for something! She was the one who lured Pegasus hime to the mountain sometime later.



Pegasus hime: (AKA: “Pega”)

Pega is a mischievous noble girl who’s hung about the mountain partially for the gossip and partially for friendship. She’s not the spoiled sort, but she is the founder of the League of Lady Perverts and is called the Felix Fangirl for her sister's banter with Rosaleendhu, which causes more than a few raised eyebrows from the Wizard at times. She’s quite intelligent in her own right, liking puns and other plays on words.



Onigirichan: (AKA: “Oni”)

Onigiri-chan is rather curious explorer of the world, which is how she wandered up to the Wizard's mountain in the first place. She’s seen a lot of the world by foot, including the darker areas of the world. She doesn’t speak a lot about her travels, but the Wizard rarely presses for details. She tends to wander off from time-to-time, but always returns. She isn't as good at expressing herself in words, so she uses emoticons to clarify her communication.



Mousey chan: (AKA: “Mousey" )

Mousey is a thief, first and foremost. She also is somewhat skilled in combat, but overall her job is to try and find shiny things without getting into any problems. She snuck into the mountain in order to find the treasure of the Wizard where she was caught by Kai. Kai managed to talk her into working for her, as well as the Wizard. The Wizard just allows Kai to handle her, mostly. So far all of the good silver is still in place, so the situation must at least be good enough for Mousey.



Siryn:

Siryn is a flirty catgirl who loves to dance, (nicely) terrorize her friends, and get into mischief. She is the child of a muse, and as such is capable of inspiring artistic expression in others. The Wizard has known her for a while and he treats her much like an outdoor cat, letting her wander off, but always leaving a place for her in the mountain. Her curiosity and love of art tends to keep her around the art studios of the other inhabitants.



Purr:

Purr is a jack-of-all-trades tabby catgirl who resides inside the windmill at the heart of Barton Town. She likes to make plushies of her friends, build crazy Rube Goldberg devices that can do almost anything, paint pictures, wear floppy hats, and sleep in a hammock. Purr is not a fan of footwear. On the rare occasion that she does wear shoes, they are always red. The Wizard has known Purr for years from even before he settled in the mountain. From time to time one might visit the other to see how they’re doing, with the Wizard always keen to know what project Purr will be working on next.



Misao:

Misao is an angel who has been a longtime friend of the Wizard’s. She’s not a regular visitor to his mountain, but the both of them have been known to give advice when the other needs it the most. She has exceedingly sweet personality and her white magic is as potent as one would imagine for an angel. She’s nearly a complete pacifist, only condoning violence once all other options have been exhausted. It’s this fact that helps maintain her friendship with the Wizard as he hates senseless bloodshed almost as much as she does.



ThreadlingBrain

The ThreadlingBrain is the result of an experiment conducted by The Wizard after the mountain had been around for a few years. The Wizard had noticed that many of the denizens came to have similar emotions or thoughts at the same time, a sort of shared sub-consciousness. Using this, as well DNA taken from a strand of hair from Merideth of the Bank of Gambino, the Wizard created a homunculus who could do general household tasks around the mountain. The fact that she has psychic powers and can read the mind of any of the mountain’s inhabitants makes her exceedingly efficient. She’s able to do something before anyone realizes that’s what they want done. The only problem is, when you and someone else in the mountain have the same thought, you can never be too sure if it was YOUR thought, or the ThreadlingBrain’s.

Rules!

1. final judging is at the sole discretion of the Wizard, while the various threadlings will judge the art done of themselves, awards will be given out by the Wizard once judging is finished. All art must be completed by the final deadline to be considered.

2. All art is welcome, from scribbles to oil paintings to fiction, the only requirement is that the subject(s) must be of the Wizard, the threadlings, or any of the other judging criteria. If something is not generally recognizable as any of those subjects, it will likely not be judged as well.

3. PLEASE be courteous to anyone in the thread, if you have concerns, please PM me and I will see if there's anything that can be done. Spam will not be tolerated, either the unwanted posts or the luncheon meat.

4. All art will be considered for the grand prize, as well as any other prizes an art piece is applicable for.

5. Additional prizes may be added in the future if interest is low, but the amount of each prize will NEVER be reduced.
