I didn't even like the manga too much in the first place so
I haven't read alot of it, just some random chapters years ago... so I started from start after this thread.
Holy s**t people bitching over nothing, calling him a "jock" when he's just a normal kid for whom glasses wouldn't do s**t. I dunno, the first three chapters were pretty fun read.

He sports an actual jock-like look later in the series. He's supposed to look like some f*****t-a** beta wimp in the beginning though so giving him glasses in the anime is a pretty smart move by the character designer.
Plus, the art design for the characters are pretty outdated so I wouldn't be surprised if they retouched on some of the characters to make them look more modern, I guess.
