Since when did shoujo manga become soft porn for girls??? :(

Okay, this topic is not really a shoujo-bashing topic. At least not one without any base. I was just pointing out that the quality of shoujo manga seems to have declined a lot since I last read them, which was a few years ago.

Before, shoujo manga would have a solid storyline, and depending on the genre, be either funny, or have really corny romance in it. Which is not my favorite, but that's fine. A good example is Hana Yori Dango, or Kodocha, or hell, even Sailor Moon, cute, romantic, and funny, and sometimes kind of epic.

A few days ago I started searching around for new mangas, and I'm more a shounen manga reader but and of the shoujo ones I looked through, 85% ended up being some under-aged looking girl being "molested" by some tall, dark, handsome guy while she initially refuses but ends up marrying him in the end, all the while disguised by a storyline that had potential. Kind of like a bad fanfic.

Its just kind of disappointing because most shoujo manga have the potential to be, if nothing else, at least somewhat entertaining, and the pretty art making up for the weak ends.

So why do they always end up being about sex NONSTOP? I have no problem with sex, I know it happens in real life and while I prefer it out of manga, that's just my opinion. But when even whole epic storyline ends just like Fushigi Yuugi where its a stereotypical girl, an abusive guy (or demon. or vampire. or classmate. or teacher. whatever trickery they use to get people interested), and then whole story is just "OMG SECKS NOW" "Oh, but I have to stay a virgin" "NO YOU'RE MINE" "Oh, okay", I get kind of pissed. These used to be in the minority, but now its hard to find one NOT like that.

So, am I just getting old and not fitting in with manga today? Or are there honestly no good shoujo manga artists out there anymore?

And I didn't noticed until I typed this up how much this sounded like Twilight. Haha.

Titles like that are selling because it's the latest "fad".
But not all shoujo manga is in the same boat.
It's often under-appreciated, less popular titles that have the good stories.
You just have to look hard enough.

most of those kind are usually smut which is light porn. try just looking for romance or comedy or a combo of both. i personally like smut but that is my perfence. smut is the current fad of shoujo anime/anime like the fad of having one or two unrealstically busty women in shouen anime/manga. fads are what sells through they are genrally a hit and miss, they arent aiming for the minority who happen to not like big breasted women or smutty shoujo they are targetting the majority who do like and will pay for those things. that is my two cents take it or leave it

I'm pretty sure they aren't. The sex in it aren't in any ways explicit, and the art is still like all the other shoujo mangas out there. The sex is obviously there, but not shown explicitly, which happens in a lot of good mangas too. Just not for all 200 something pages.

I can name more than a dozen shoujo series that does not have any of that crap you mentioned. You just need to lurk moar. But I guess I somewhat agree with you in 'that' department (abusive hot boyfriend fad) because it's all the same junk which I never understood how girls can find it so appealing & not get bored by it.

And do yourself a favor, when Dengeki Daisy comes out in English, go buy it. It's definitely one of the better recent shoujo out there...

well i actually think that it all depends on the rating, i mean if its a teen its not that bad, and a YA isnt soft porn at all, but they usually add some soft porn for romances in older teen. but its not that all bad.

Given the fact that shojo merely means it's intended for girls, that content seems perfectly normal.
BTW, there are different ends of shojo, as in...
The demographic itself covers a specific age range, but there are separate ages within said age range.

The shojo aimed at a 9 yearold is going to be different than the shojo aimed at a 14 yearold, and so on.

In my case, I much prefer the more violent and morbid variety of shojo...
Although I can enjoy a magical girl on occasion, if it's particularly good.

The only one that i can think of that's "smuty" would be sensual phrase (had to check to make sure it was shojo, according to wikipedia it is) but it's also really good. At least I liked it. It was sketchy reading in public though lol...
