"Kevin, I'm really nervous. I'm scared," I told my best friend over the phone. "I hate facing new things, especially going to new schools, you know that."

I heard him sigh loudly over the phone, obviously not happy with my self-doubt. "Jace, really, you'll be fine. I know you, almost better then anyone else. You can do this, don't be scared," he encouraged me, which had my eyes rolling in seconds.

Plopping down on my bed, phone glued to my ear, I stared up at the ceiling at nothing in particular. "Well, if you think that of me, then you don't know me at all, Kev." I sighed, and started playing with the heart-locket that hung loosely around on my neck. "I'm don't even know what I'm-"

"JACELYN!" My dad's slurred words cut my sentence off to an immediate halt, as I dropped the phone in shock. I paused for a moment, feeling all the blood drain from my face.

I bent down, trying to pick up the phone with shaky hands, hearing Kevin call my name over repeatedly, the sound fainted. My eyes slowly filled with water as I hurriedly put the phone back to my ear. "Kevin. Kevin, he's drunk again," I panicked in a whisper.
