Pretty much. But as I said before, there will always be exceptions-- because different people have different amounts of those hormones. Women have testosterone and men have estrogen-- and women have different levels of both at different periods of their cycle. And different people have different estrogen-to-testosterone ratios, which is also a factor.

Ohh jeez. That's such a complicated subject I don't know how to address it in just one profile comment-- I could write a ******** book on it. But my feminism has nothing to do with think that men and women are the same-- most feminists don't believe that at all. (And in case you're wondering, not all feminists are lesbians, man-haters, excessively hairy, ugly, etc... though there's nothing wrong with being a lesbian either... and I could get into feminism and gay rights activism too.) Basically, I believe that women should not be discriminated against, be it in legislature, in their careers, or in society, and that gender roles should not be forced upon individuals of either sex. For instance, in middle schools and high schools across the US, if a boy has a lot of female friends or has certain interests (varies depending on location, but anything from hair care to soccer), he will typically be teased for being gay, regardless of whether or not he's sexually attracted to other boys. That's not a consequence of homophobia alone-- it's a consequence of gender roles. And it restricts people from being who they are and from expressing themselves.

Obviously there are physical differences between men and women, and some of these physical differences are hormonal. That means that certain character traits are more prominent in women than in men or vice-versa. And it's tricky to judge how many of these traits are actually inherent, and how many are created by society, because from the day a boy or a girl is born, he or she is bombarded with gender roles from all angles-- "Oh, I bet he'll be a strong football player," or "Oh, isn't she a princess!" But even if it IS inherent, just because some characteristic is more prominent in the female population doesn't mean it's uniform among all women, and assuming such is a very dangerous thing that hurts society and progress.

For instance, assume for a minute that women are more nurturing than men. Does that mean that Shirley is automatically more nurturing than Amos, because Shirley is a woman? Not necessarily. And if, based on this assumption, society dictates that Shirley must become a stay-at-home mother and Amos must go out and work all the time, well, the kids are the ones that are going to suffer. And unfortunately, our society does assume this. Women get custody of children in the vast majority of divorce cases-- when they are not necessarily the most qualified parent.

Then there's the stereotype that men are better than women at math. Again, regardless of whether or not this is true generally (in which case it may be more societal than anything else), there are always individual exceptions. I'm taking AP Calc next year, for instance, and there are plenty of boys in much lower math levels at my school. But let's say society dictates that women are bad at math, and a girl (We'll call her Jane) is born with a brain that focuses on logic and mathematics. As soon as she is in elementary school, her ability at math is ignored or underestimated, because her teachers subconsciously focus more on boys than on girls in her math class. Still, she's bright and manages to learn, even though a fair amount of her potential is wasted because her teachers do not give her individual attention. She ends up applying to the best colleges in the country for math and engineering, and is shot down because her ability is examined much more closely (since it's so unusual for a woman to apply to those schools) than it is for male applicants. (A little a-la-xkcd: http://xkcd.com/385/) She ends up having to go to a decent, but not fantastic, college. But her struggle isn't over yet, because when she tries to get a job she faces the same skepticism faced when she applied for college. She has to struggle to have any of her work taken seriously. Naturally, all this stress must get to her, and probably inhibits her ability to produce the brilliant work she is capable of. Who knows what brilliant things she mig
