FOUR MYTHS THAT AREN'T TRUE ABOUT WOLVES!!!
#1: Wolves Attack People
There has never been a case of a wolf killing a human being in North America..... Because they're AFRAID OF US. In North America, bears (black and grizzly) have killed 27 people since 2000, and since 1990, cougars have killed 12.
#2: Wolves are Eating all the Elk
Elk numbers are at an all-time high in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Wolves do make hunting elk more difficult, by keeping herds on the move, which is good for both the health of the land, and the health of the elk. The hunters' success rates are the SAME
#3: Wolves are Killing all the Sheep and Cattle
Wolves are responsible for less than 1% of all livestock deaths.
EXAMPLE: In Wyoming, 42,000 cows and calves died in 2005 from all causes. Wolves killed only 54.
#4: Wolves Kill for Sport
FACT:Wolves are timid creatures and therefore are often frightened away from a kill by the presence of people or by other predators. Wolves kill to sustain themselves. Killing elk and deer can be difficult and dangerous for wolves. 80-90% of the time they hunt, they're unsuccessful.
