Ambition is a poor excuse for not having the sense to be lazy.

History
~A history of Xiephyron VII~ Xiephyron did not come into the world like the average life form. He started out as an IT, and was intended to be the means to achieve a goal. Made by alchemists under the rule of the Serpent King, Banyudai, to be the Ultimate Soldier, Xiephyron didn't turn out as was intended.
Made from several different parts, most notably Diety's Tears, Dragon Scales, Phoenix Heart, Gargoyles Tongue, White Tides of Moon and Black Blood of Destruction, IT never really had a sense of being. Deamons wouldn't sense him as a living form, since IT wasn't alive. Oddly, just before the day of presentation, a raw soul blundered upon the creation, and took refuge within, creating a being, a male, ultimately ruining the future planned for the thing by the alchemists. So, Xiephyron VII was abandoned in the ocean depths where he slept unawares for 7.8 centuries.
As for his name, Xiephyron was the seventh creation attempted, and was the first completed. He has no real memories, and sees fragments of the true past mostly in dreams.
Azure was the name of the head alchemist, and being that Xiephyron failed to meet Banyudai's high expectations, became known among the alchemists as "Azure's Folly" or mistake/failure.
A short time after the beginning of the seventh century, an elderly couple found Xiephyron washed up on the small beach of their small island. They took him in, figuring him to be a traumatized, shipwrecked individual. When they deigned him satisfactory to be on his own, they fitted him with the necessities of survival for a vagabond, and sent him on his way.
That is where his story begins....
~An Understanding of Whisps~Elemental Whisps are distant cousins to the various sprites that live on Vortex. However, they are few and far between. One Whisp is born about every fifty or so centuries, or at least that is what is believed. Once born, they immediately call out to the one that they have chosen as their Bound. In this case, a Whisp has made you its Bound.
Usually a Whisp would only select a person among the highest Deamon classes, drawn to them by their magical essenses.
Once the Whisp and the Bound meet, the Whisp is forever at the Bound's side, aiding him or her whenever aid is needed, to the best of the Whisp's ability, which is very mighty if I might add. The longevity of the Whisp is great, which probably accounts for their low numbers. That longevity is passed on to the Bound.
Despite this long life, they can be killed. By no means are Whisp and Bound immortal or invulnerable.
Another fact is that the great knowledge of the Whisp is selectively shared with the Bound.
Whisps take on many forms and shapes, and if it is the will of the Bound, remain unseen in the eyes of all others.
