Well if you had a good crew it was a laugh and good fun, if you didn't have a good crew it was a living hell. It was also like living in a goldfish bowl but in complete isolation. Goldfish bowl because there is no such thing as a secret onboard ship, you do something, everyone else will find out.

It was a visit, I used to work in the merchant navy on cargo ships. One of our ports of call for the ship I was working on at the time was Auckland. I was there for about a week and a half.

The park in question in my photo in the arena's you could get to on the circular bus route. I don't think it's far from the sky tower (I think that's the name of the tower) and the university campus if that helps. The photo was taken close to five years ago now smile

Neh, not really.

As for inspiration .. I've always found the Plague Doctors of the time when the bubonic plague was killing off Europe fascinating. Their outfit, their naïve courage. They really thought that putting herbs inside their masks would save them from the plague! Hahah. Still, I've much wanted to see a good painting of one..

A lone doctor in a sea of dying men, rotting away from the plague. He stands tall like a black lighthouse, offering his hand to the poor and needy, the sickly and dying.
