The other nicknames were just random names like Fred and George.

My grandpa could hardly remember our names, but there were 7 of us. He'd rattle through his kids' names and then the grandkids' before he got to the right one while scolding us. It was really funny.

I have never heard of Merk's Cheese, but I am always willing to try new foods, especially if it involves cheese!

It's actually shortened from Heavens to Mergatroid, which was the cartoon character Snagglepuss's favorite exclamation, and also my grandfather's nickname for me when I was just a wee one. =]
