Duchene Muscular Dystrophy
(DMD) is also known as Pseudohypertrophica. Children are usually diagnosed between two and six years of age. This disability is a degenerative neuromuscular disease. This project will have many interesting and shocking truths that I will tell you about this highly dangerous disease, which is only biologically inherited.
Duchene Muscular Dystrophy is caused from dystrophin genes being mutated. The mutated genes keep these critical proteins called “dystrophin” from being produced. Duchene’s causes a major progression in muscle weakness. It mostly affects the hips, pelvic area, and shoulders, but it rapidly progresses throughout the body. The calves are often enlarged. Duchene’s affects mostly boys. It is extremely rare for girls to get (DMD).
Here is some unusual fact about DMD that you might find both shocking and interesting. Women are usually carriers of DMD. The survival of patients with this disability have a survival rate that is usually the early thirties. Research for this disease is being done on mice in Europe. Part of this research is taking muscle fiber from humans. Then, they mix the muscle fibers with blood and stem cells. Plus, they then put them into a virus shell and inject them into a mouse.
What people with DMD can and can’t do are some common things these days. The first thing they can’t do is write letters or write there homework. They usually scribe or type instead of write, so they still get their work done. The second most important thing, people with this usually have complete mental function of their brain.
Sometimes people put them down and are not smart enough to know better is calling them mentally slow or mentally retarded. The truth about this is that some people with DMD are mentally slow, but it is rare.
In conclusion, it will eventually affect all the voluntary muscles. Then, it will affect the all important breathing and heart muscles.

It's been over six years since you died. I'm thinking about you today because you came up in conversation with my girlfriend. I know you'd love her. I know you'd be proud of me, dude.
I'm doing okay. I've graduated high school and I'm working at the Y with some kids. Sometimes it's surreal to remember you're gone. I know I don't talk about you much to others, but I think about you a lot. Sometimes I feel bad that for the last few years of your life, we weren't close. Because you would talk about death and I'd get scared, you were fifteen and I was thirteen. I didn't know how to comfort you; I'm lucky enough that I've never had to face my own death like you. And instead of trying I ran away. Sometimes I wish I could apologize to you first hand. I hope there's a way for you to read this, where ever we go when we're done on earth.
You'd be turning twenty-four this year. I'm turning twenty-two in October. I'm sorry you aren't going to see so many things that you deserved to see. Like your twenty-first birthday, like your wedding day.
I just hope whever you are now, you're strong, and happy, and in love. I hope you have everything you didn't get to have down here. A lot of people miss you.
