Now that it's the end of the school year, I have enough confidence to post a poem I wrote for no reason other than I couldn't get the first few stanzas out of my head...or part of them...anyways, here it is!
A Love Poem
Roses are red,
and violets are blue.
I have something to say--
I love you.
The violets are purple,
and the roses pink.
Please! I have to know
what you think.
The roses have faded
and the violets are grey.
I guess there's
nothing left to say.
Those violets are weak
and the roses have wilted.
Nothing hurts more
than the fact of being jilted.
The roses are dull,
the violets dead.
The day after I told you,
I now lay in my dark bed.
The violets turned to dust,
and the roses black.
I can never hope
to call you back.
The vase I gave you is empty
for the flowers have long since died.
You had never thought that on that day,
you may have lied.
You keep wishing
for a way
to turn back time.
Yet here I stay.
You come to visit,
and for a while, stay.
To bring those flowers and think
those three words you never got to say.
I didn't know, for my spirit was gone,
you came to see me that day--
to hold my cold hand,
but your tears didn't stay.
If that accident never happened,
would things be the same?
Would you have thought about
your feelings? Or still make me feel lame?
It doesn't matter now.
Those thoughts are in vain.
You know nothing can bring me back
and that is your greatest pain.
You came to visit
each and every day.
Until your time came
in the very same way.
Now side by side--
together at last!--we lay.
