About

Tim is the son of Jack and Janet Drake. Years ago, the Drakes visited the Haly Circus and met The Flying Graysons. Both families briefly acquainted, especially the sons of both families, d**k Grayson and Tim Drake, momentarily bonded while their parents asked someone to take a family photo of them with the Drakes' camera. After John and Mary Grayson's murders under Tony Zucco's orders, The Drakes learned that d**k became Wayne Enterprises' head Bruce Wayne's ward. The elder Drakes later sent a copy of the photo of them with the Graysons to Wayne Manor and try to put the incident out of their minds, but young Tim would never forget the tragedy he witnessed. After Tim reaches the age of nine, Drake deduces the identities of Batman and Robin as Bruce Wayne and d**k Grayson while watching a fight against the Penguin on television with his parents, and noting a gymnastic move by Robin that Grayson displayed while performing with the Flying Graysons. Seeing d**k as an older brother figure, Tim is inspired by his exploits as Robin and since then not only trying his best in school, but also persuades his parents to allow him to train in acrobatics and martial arts along with pursuing a self-taught course in investigation.

Noting that Batman has grown reckless and violent following the death of second Robin Jason Todd, who was murdered by the Joker, Tim tries to convince Grayson to become Robin again. Grayson agrees to aid Batman but maintains his Nightwing identity. Drake stresses that Batman needs an actual Robin and convinces Alfred Pennyworth to give him the Robin costume. Tim saves Batman and Nightwing from a battle with Two-Face.

Still haunted by Jason Todd's death, Batman provided Tim with a grueling series of trials that d**k and Jason never had to endure to ensure that Tim would be ready before he can take the role. After saving Batman and Vicki Vale when they are kidnapped by Scarecrow, Drake is allowed to be Robin. Bruce provides him with a redesigned costume.[4] To further reinforce Tim's skills, Bruce has him go abroad to learn from a sensei in France who trained himself. This leads to an international adventure in which Tim makes a personal enemy with the villain, King Snake, for thwarting his scheme to exterminate the population of Hong Kong while receiving additional training from Lady Shiva.
Once Tim has joined Batman as the new Robin, he serves admirably for some time. He even pursued and defeated the Joker after their first encounter while Batman was out of Gotham, succeeding where Jason Todd had failed and effectively redeeming the Robin legacy. After his mentor suffered a spinal injury during Knightfall, he was forced to patrol Gotham solo when Bruce Wayne's substitute as Batman, Jean Paul Valley, expressed no desire to have a partner. Even after Bruce Wayne reclaimed the Mantle of the Bat, Tim would frequently patrol the streets by himself and eventually gained his own rogue gallery in the city. He eventually became one of the founding members of a teen superhero team, Young Justice, with Superboy and Impulse, before it disbanded and then the trio joined the Teen Titans. Later on, Tim briefly left the Robin mantle when his father discovered his identity, leading Stephanie Brown to take it up in his stead. After that, Tim went through numerous hardships, including the murder of his father in Identity Crisis, which leaves Tim an orphan, and the death of his best friend, Superboy, in Infinite Crisis. Before joining the final battle during Infinite Crisis, Tim was confronted by Jason Todd, who was inadvertently revived by Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor, Jr., and becomes a murderous vigilantee known as Red Hood. Jealous that his successor have surpassed him as Robin, Todd engaged Tim in combat and defeated him. This encounter created a bitter relationship between them, yet it also made Todd develop a grudging respect towards Tim. After the crisis is over, the death of Superboy causes Tim to redesign the Robin costume yet again, discarding the green in the color scheme and instead choosing a red suit with long sleeves and a "feather-motif" black and yellow cape, embodying a desire to use "Connor's colors." After the One Year Later story arc, Tim is formally adopted by Bruce Wayne.

When Batman goes missing subsequently after Batman R.I.P. and Final Crisis storylines, Tim dresses in the classic blue and gray Batman costume to combat Jason Todd, who is dressed in an armoured Batman costume and murdering criminals (and anyone who gets in his way). During the fight, Jason demands that Tim join him as his Robin. When Tim refuses, Jason ends up stabbing him with a batarang, disabling him and leaving him for dead. Tim survives thanks to the reinforced armor of the Batman suit, and a special breathing technique Bruce taught him that slowed his heart-rate, blood loss, and creates a facade of death which fools Todd enough to halt his attacks. He is eventually rescued from Jason's self-destructing lair by their successor as Robin and Bruce's biological son, Damian Wayne.Following the Battle for the Cowl storyline, the character takes on the costumed identity of Red Robin. In a new (2010) series with the same title, the character is seen questing around the world looking for Bruce Wayne, whom he believes is still alive. Parallel to d**k's departure from Robin and becoming Nightwing, Tim cuts himself off from the rest of the Bat-Family to become Red Robin. The Bat-Family believes that Tim is having issues letting go of his mentor. Tim, however, manages to get proof of Bruce Wayne's continued existence but lost in time, and also manages to cripple Ra's al Ghul's organization. In response to Tim's betrayal, Ra's begins his attack to destroy everything the Wayne Family have built in Gotham. After capturing Killer Moth during his return to Gotham, Tim realizes that he has outgrown his role as Robin and fully embraces his Red Robin persona. Tim returns not only to reestablish himself in the city, but also to seek d**k's aid in the Batcave of finding people who have time traveling capabilities to help them in finding their lost mentor and to warn of the League of Assassins' attack. Unbeknown to Tim is that d**k, Damian, Alfred, and the Justice League have already deduced Bruce Wayne was not dead.

When Tim finally returns to Gotham and enters the Batcave he is greeted by quite a surprise. He finds Stephanie Brown, now as Batgirl. They realize that they must work together to protect Ra's possible targets. Stephanie still has feelings for Tim, which he seems to return; however, both seem intent on keeping things professional for the time being.

It is eventually revealed that Tim is named as Bruce's heir in accordance of his will, thwarting Ra's plans as he attempted to use Hush (who surgically altered his appearance to resemble Bruce Wayne) to gain control of the Wayne family resources (The plan was created by Bruce Wayne before his disappearance, reasoning that he would not be around forever). As a result, in addition to being Red Robin, Tim Drake is now the current CEO and controlling shareholder of Wayne Enterprises, ruining Ra's endgame.

Because of Red Robin's sound tactical defeat of him, an enraged Ra's congratulates him and calls him "Detective" (which the villain only used for Bruce Wayne/Batman), before kicking him off a high rise. Tim, proud of having saved the Wayne heritage, faces his death, only to be saved by Batman at the last second. He wakes up recovered in the Batcave, welcomed by d**k Grayson and Alfred, who are relieved to see him again. Standing along his recovery bed are Damian Wayne and Stephanie Brown, both of which have reasons to be angry at him - the former had already set about legal motions to make Tim relinquish his hold over Wayne Enterprises, while the latter evidently jealous of Tam Fox, who lied that she and Tim were engaged to stave off Vicki Vale's questions. Robin then gives Tim the headline announcing Tim and Tam's "engagement".

In another storyline from the issues of Batman and Robin, at some point after they defeated The League of Assassins, Tim informs d**k and Alfred of his findings, and they discover contradictions within the Wayne family records, suggesting that Bruce may have sent SOSs and passed them through his own family tree. On another storyline, Tim has a cameo appearance as Red Robin as one of the assault team led by d**k against the new Black Mask and his organization, suggesting that he's staying in Gotham.[6]

Tim is also seen as Red Robin during the Blackest Night [7] having been summoned back by Batman (Grayson) when both their parents are resurrected. Blackest Night: Batman implies that even with Tim's new ranking in the Bat-Family, he has still not gotten used to being Red Robin. Twice during the course of the storyline, when d**k Grayson (the current Batman) calls for Robin, Tim answers "What?" Both times, Grayson was actually asking for Damian Wayne, the new Robin. Tim also appears in World's Finest teaming up with Chris Kent to save Flamebird after mistaking Chris for Superboy in disguise.

He is later reunited with Superboy in Paris while trying to track down a Mother Box in order to get to New Genesis. After searching through the Catacombs of Paris for one of Lex Luthor's labs, Tim breaks down and tells Conner of all the hardships he endured in the aftermath of his death. Conner offers emotional support to his friend, telling him that he does believe Bruce is still alive. Tim later helps Superboy again by offering Lena Luthor Wayne Enterprise medical support.

Tim has since then returned to Gotham (with a newfound sense of purpose, as well as an Alfred -modified costume) to protect the city and to prepare for the formal search for Bruce Wayne, now that the rest of the heroes have started to realize that he is not dead.

Tim Wayne possesses the normal human strength of a teenager who regularly engages in intensive physical exercise. Before becoming Robin, Tim has already engaged himself in martial arts and acrobatics, and Batman and other instructors across the world have trained him further on those disciplines along others such as forensics, criminology, stealth, disguise, and escapology. He is also shown to be skilled in photography when he was thirteen.

His naturally high intellect has enabled him to excel in computer science and as a detective. His intellect is apparently so impressive that Batman has claimed to Alfred that Tim is potentially smarter than he is. His ability to deduce the secret identities of superheroes on his own has been used to underscore his skill. Among the identities used in this way are the Batman, both of his predecessors as Robin, the Huntress, Impulse, Captain Marvel and even the Flash, after Wally West's secret identity was wiped from the minds of the world by Hal Jordan using the powers as The Spectre. Furthermore, Tim apparently has a firm grasp of assorted scientific techniques, including biology, engineering, and genetics, which he has been shown to use in his attempts at re-cloning Superboy. Tim, much like d**k Grayson, is also a clever and experienced strategist with impressive leadership skills, having served as leader to the Teen Titans, Young Justice, and even being placed in charge of the rescue efforts of Blüdhaven by Superman, following the attack made by Deathstroke and his fellow villains.

Tim has shown in recent issues to be an extremely capable martial artist and strategist, able to fend off several notorious assassins from the Council of Spiders at once while protecting Tam Fox and also in the end game of his plan to destroy several League of Assassins bases; earning commendation from Ra's al Ghul himself who was watching the fight from afar. He was also able to briefly hold his own against d**k Grayson's Batman during their encounter prior to his leaving Gotham. Overall, his fighting ability matured greatly to the point of easily defeating and outsmarting several members of the League of Assassins and holding his own against the Council of Spiders while defending another person. d**k Grayson has recognized him as an equal, since becoming Batman. In addition, after defeating Ra's Al Ghul's master plan to assassinate everyone Bruce Wayne cared about and ruining the Wayne Family fortune, Ra's has called Tim "Detective", a title the villain once only reserved for Bruce Wayne.
