[Ω] Profile Design v8.1.2 [Ξ]

'lo, welcome to my old a** profile. I'm a freelance IT guy that specializes in more stuff than I can count anymore, but I largely just focus on system administration, web/software development and security auditing/analyst gigs.

If my profile somehow looks broken or messed up to you, it's a good sign you're on a hideously outdated browser, you should update.

As for Gaia's migration into HTML5/JS (again not sure why the sarcasm to this as Lanzer has been talking about this being in-progress since shortly after return), I'm not part of the development team so I cannot say. Even if it's not done by the end of the year I would assume it's still in progress regardless since the site still exists, since those are the key features for the future viability of the site. If they weren't working on them then why even bother keeping things going is the logic I have at the moment.

I feel like you took an oddly over offense to comments about Flash, so if you're that easily bothered by someone sharing a same technical perspective that the vast consensus of the tech community has then indeed hanging around a technology chat area is probably not the best of ideas. o.O

Just checking in.

I wanted to see if you now understand the reality of severing a core technology from an older platform. This is the reason why I defended Flash. But hey, at least Gaia Online is now secure, and not sullied by an outdated proprietary technology.

If my point wasn't obvious, Gaia Online was not ready for the end of Flash.

With the end of 2021 drawing near, Gaia Online is still not ready for the end of Flash.

I think his issue is, there are only from what I can tell at most 5 developers/programmers.

They definitely need new tools. A couple of weeks ago, I proposed to Lanzer that they have a cool down for new accounts, he said he'd add it and expanded that he'd also have all posts blocked by a user if that person got too many reports. Preemptive strikes! o/

Trying to get him to add a GSI for getting child item data — and various other things. gonk

List of things I will be posting in the next AtS:
Information Query

The 712 GSI returns a thumbnail and thumbfile property. The thumbfile is what's used for the item's icon. What is the thumbnail image for, and how would I access it?

For instance the Angelic Halo (#1404)

"thumbnail":"m_head_69_thb.png","thumbfile":"7620e03a57c.png”

================
Information Query #2

Game items have a "class" and "subclass" property, some of these come back as numbers. What is the value of the numbers, is it suppose to be a foreign key in your database?

================
Feature: New GSI
In order to not slow down the 712 GSI requests further by adding more information returned, would you be willing to add a new GSI that takes an item ID and returns all of it's children items' data, like what gets returned with 712, but for all of the associated children.

Example: I give it the Anima Adamantea ID (#31825) and would returns data for all:
Anima Adamantea (chest gem),
Anima Adamantea (metal egg - in arm),
Anima Adamantea (glowing bracelet),
etc...

While I can get the parent item data from the item_search table, it is not currently possible to get the child item data.

https://www.gaiaonline.com/marketplace/itemdetail/31869
Thus if I were to get the data, I'd have to scrape the marketplace one-by-one, and given the sheer amount of child items there are, that's not practical.

=================
Feature

Have you looked into opening JIRA to the public for bug tracking and feature request issue tracking. Lanzer said he'd need to look at the current JIRA license to see if it would be allowed.

=================
Feature

A few weeks ago I asked about markdown. You said you'd look into implementing it along side with the BBCode engine.

Have you looked into it further, or started working on it?

Yeah, Gaia needs a lot of TLC right now, and there's just too few staff and too few moderators to go around.

Yeah, SF seems to be one of the more active forums. I use to frequent the Q&A and the PD forums, but they're pretty slow these days and don't require much technical explanation. User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
I'm not really sure why Gaia has a C&T forum still, it's not very used and there are other better sources at this point. :shurg:
