Which company's vaccine have you got? It's been such a hot topic here. Astra Zeneca ones are problematic, they keep making headlines.

Nope - borders here have been open. Initially, the limitation was mainly there were no flights to or from here (this is why I was stuck in Serbia for three months last year), and later they introduced some restrictions, like, if you are not a citizen or a resident, you need a good reason to enter the country, such as business or medical treatment, it can't be just for tourism.

The doctorate is in neuroscience. The official time is three years, but I already missed that mark, and am in my fourth year now. Will probably go into fifth, they way things are going.

And LOL, I indeed do have a smartphone now. My mom gave me her old one last June, before I returned to Germany. I use WhatsApp and Telegram, we can add each other there, if you use any of those. heart

I don't know if you'll believe this, but I thought about you maybe two days ago! Telepathy maybe?
Well, both my brother and sister had corona, my brother recovered pretty well, but my sister was feeling pretty weak and had headaches for about two months, but she is OK now as well. But they're significantly older than me, so I guess they can't go unscathed. :p My dad got both doses of the vaccine, my mom only got the first one this weekend. Hopefully she gets the second one as well without problems. They're all in Serbia (well my brother went back to Caribbean on a ship a few days ago for work), but I'm in Germany and here the vaccine roll out is so slow, I will probably never get it.

Did Trinidad get some vaccines?

My PhD is a hot mess, but I am doing my best not to get depressed about it. Just staying home all day is weird. It feels helpless, but also calming at the same time.

Thanks :hugs: I am dealing OK with it. Basically, he told me he thought about it, and realized that I am not "the one", the person who he wants to marry or spend the rest of his life with. There are additional details, but this is the most important part. So yeah... I wouldn't want to stay with someone who is not happy with me and doesn't want to be with me, anyway.

And aww, why are you hating your life? a*****e boss and colleagues? Low pay? Do you specialize in a particular kind of law?

LOL, never? biggrin What about your clients or colleagues? Is it an all-women company? :p

My (now ex) bf broke up with me this September, so I moved out of our shared flat, and now I live with a stranger in a flatshare. Started the third year of my PhD in October. Dating and feeling mostly OK with being single. Procrastinating on some of my tasks (like writing a paper). Saving up money in case I need to move again or if my funding runs out and living a very minimalist lifestyle. :p

How about you? Still in Trinidad? Still at that legal/law job you had last year? Any guys in your life? smile

I do have a regular mobile phone, so I would be able to receive call or text messages in cases of emergency. biggrin I agree, not even having a phone for such cases seems odd. Where did you date this German guy? In England?

He only vomited in the night between Saturday and Sunday, but he felt unwell all Sunday, and today he was still not 100%. We mostly ate the same stuff, but he stuffed himself whereas I stopped when I was more or less full. And well, he also ate chocolate ice cream which I didn't, but again, it was probably the amount, rather than the content. Oh well, lesson learned, I hope.

Oh I know so many people who feel incomplete and invalid without a partner, it's sad really. your attitude is really refreshing to hear.

Not much talking? LOL, now I'm curious as to what he looks like. :p Although he probably wouldn't want you showing his pics to your Internet pals.

Ugh, i can relate. My supervisor sometimes expects me to figure stuff out on my own that I have never done before and that would take half the time if someone more experienced helped me out. But oh well... i guess it's one way to learn.

I guess autumn is the time when the temperature suddenly drops and our immunity takes a dive with it? But maybe in Trinidad it's still as warm as it was during the summer? Dunno. But I'm glad you're better. 3nodding Hopefully, the sore throat heals up soon as well.

lollll, well, exactly the same way that I survived the first twenty-something years without a smartphone. xp I do acknowledge that it would be convenient to have one in certain cases, but I don't think I really need it just yet, and i am trying to only buy things that I need, as opposed to buying things that I want, but that aren't necessary.

(Btw, as of writing this, my boyfriend is in the bathroom, vomiting. I really hope it is just a temporarily upset stomach and not some virus or food poisoning.)

I can relate, I was completely celibate for about year and half as well, from late 2014 until early 2016. It's important to be fine with being single and not look desperately for someone to make you feel good or worthy etc. Also, being single is way better than being in a bad relationship. By working on your life, you're making yourself better equipped for that right person, when he comes, and if he does not, oh well - there is more to life than that.

Good riddance, re: the short needy guy. I feel bad for short men, it's not their fault society and patriarchy discriminates against them, and height is also not something they can change. And as a short man you face a lot of rejection and subtle or not so subtle messages that you are unattractive and "less of a man", so it's really very difficult to go on with your life without letting that sour your character. This is not a justification for his behavior, though, just some thoughts. I am also torn about dating people who are not your type. On one hand, i do believe we should keep our minds open and not pre-judge people, but on the other, you can't do too much about who you're physically attracted to (even if it had been shaped by some societal influences that involved discrimination against certain people), so if you know in advance that it's not going to work, better to spare both you and the other person the hurt. The question of course is: can you really know that in advance?
You have mentioned the hot soldier before. I bet he got all muscled and fit from all the military drills, had a lot of stamina and was good at taking orders. wink

Also, ugliness/prettiness is subjective, I don't think you should change your appearance in order for men to like you more, but if you yourself are unhappy with it, then you should either try to modify the appearance, or the attitudes that are causing the unhappiness. heart

Oh, I also have to talk in front of an audience (albeit not every day) and I actually really like it. It's an academic audience, though, so this maybe makes a difference. What do you hate the most about public speaking?

I seem to have come down with something, I had the chills last night, cold sweating even though it's warm...

a 'BF'?? What is that even?? Hun, I haven't graced my eyes on the male figure since 2016! They have collectively been total wastes of my time AND the purveyors of heartache. I gave up on dating since then and have focused on my career ever since.

I got burned badly. I decided to come out of my comfort zone and date a guy who wasn't my type. He was this short, stocky builder guy with an anger issue and even bigger napoleon complex. Anyways we dated from like January 2016-June of the same year.. met the parents even. He was obsessed with wanting children with me and begging to have one as soon as the "time was right". Yuck. As you may know, I don't really like children, and in my heart I knew he wasn't the one for me. So one random day, as I was preparing for my final law exams that I agonised over and told him about for weeks beforehand-so he knew how important they were- he randomly picked a fight with me and decided to end it over the phone. The fight was soooo petty, I didn't think it would lead to that outcome. Imagine being stressed to your wits end, and having some ******** decide to s**t on your feelings in the midst of it all! And to top it off, not barely a fortnight later he was loved up with a young lady, sharing their DEEP LOVE all over instagram, with the saccharine puke-worthy captions..! If i was so constituted I might have sent the lovebirds something in the mail... But I digress...I barely passed my exams but I did anyways! I then decided to take a trip to Japan a month later, and on the way back as the plane layover in Dubai I met an Arab-English bloke. Very nice and lovely guy but the recent heartbreak was too much. I still went for dinner with him though, lol,free food. He still chats with me now and then though. After that I met an AMAZING Scottish solider, gawd he was a delight!!! But it fizzled because he had to go to Afghanistan and I was returning to Trinidad. I still have him on my whatsapp and I still (literally) dream about him, but I know its never to be since he's got a gf now, maybe she's his wife too.

So I don't date, don't care for it, I flirt a lot online, that's about it.

Oh and i got way uglier and put on weight.... it's tragic.

Hmm. I can't say I'm happy with my job. Its pushed me to talk before an audience everyday and I HATE IT. scream
But it could be worse. There's flexibility you don't get with other jobs. I'm looking for an in house counsel job nonetheless.

Yes, it seems a lifetime ago.. that's why we shouldn't waste our times on the petty things.... life and time wait for no one.

Life is good, I moved in with my bf about a year ago, and even though the life together is sometimes rocky, we get along well and are mostly able to smooth out the disagreements. But we have not been talking in so long, so I don't even know if you know I have a bf? :p

Congratssss! blaugh I remember you studying for your attorney exam (probably not the actual name of the thing, but you know what I mean), when we last talked. So glad you made it! I never doubted it. 3nodding
Are you happy with your job? Does your firm specialize in a certain type of cases?
Do you realize that, when we started talking, you were still back in Trinidad and studying for your entrance exam (or whatever it was) in preparation to go to England? It seems like a lifetime ago. I do think we started talking in December 2010 for the first time.
