I also happen to live in San Diego, but I wanted to say that I had a roommate I didn't know in school twice, and I got along with both of them fine. One became a fairly close friend. I think if you have a chance to room with a roommate, you won't regret it. If money isn't an issue and you enjoy privacy at times, it's very nice to have an entire dorm room or apartment to yourself, but it's more than worth it to room with another person to save money. If I wasn't so shy and didn't keep to myself so much, I'd try to find someone that needed a roommate for an apartment to help me cut my expenses.
