Shaun Hastings assists Desmond by creating database entries on various persons, groups and buildings he will encounter while in the Animus. Shaun was interested in conspiracies from an early age, and though he was unaware of the existence of modern-day Templars and Assassins, he realized that there was some power-struggle going on. Shaun attempted to tell others about his findings, not realizing that the Templars would try to silence him. Fortunately, Rebecca Crane "rescued" Shaun, and recruited him into the Assassin Order (Which is pretty odd, considering most Assassins are Born into it). Shaun is often cynical, condescending and pessimistic. Sometimes he will have little patience to talk to Desmond, but other times he will lead off into long conversations. He says sometimes that he likes what he does as work, but he will also complain about it often, and appears to be a smidge jealous of Desmond for his ability to enter the Animus (since Shaun can't, most likely because he wasn't Born into the Order).
