Personality: Far more mousy and book-smart than his brother, Keigo, Sakuma prefers doing his research in libraries, rather than in the field. However, it his his goal to become the foremost expert on all things demonic; so he works tirelessly, risking life and limb, in order to learn all he can. Sakuma is well aware that not all demons have cruel intentions, most just want to be left alone. He does what he can to respect the territories of other demons, learning the marks and teaching them to hunters and villagers.

Over the years, Sakuma has become less shy and more assertive in nature. He now harbors little fear towards strangers, but is still terrified of thunderstorms. His motherly instincts tend to kick in strongly should anyone be in need, and he'd never turn away the needs of a friend. Sakuma has grown into a selfless individual, focusing on the needs of his mate and family before his own, which leads to the occasional bout of illness or anemia from over-working himself.

His temperament has changed as well, he no longer harbors a fear of taking a life, but will only do so in order to protect his four children. Sakuma becomes absolutely heartless toward those who have harmed his family, and would not hesitate to take the life of anyone who goes after his babies.

When under the influence of alcohol, he becomes a very open individual, often professing his doubts and fears unto others, whilst also being very physical and cuddly. Under his brave exterior it seems he's still the same insecure folklorist, hiding his true self away, constantly fearing rejection by his beloved mate, especially since he's getting on in years.

History: Sakuma is the son of Yuki and Keiko Yukimura; a farming couple who both died of old age and illness around the time he was sixteen. Since then, he has been travelling with his brother, Keigo. Sakuma showed knack for learning as a young man, and his skills only grew as he was educated at a Buddhist shrine in his town.

Since the deaths of his parents, Sakuma has been researching demons. It is his intention to herald in a society where humans and demons can live in peace.

Upon an encounter with a rather forceful crow-demon, Sakuma found friendship and new feelings in a new friend; the wolf-demon Kouga. He's unbreakably loyal to the demon now, and their friendship is quite formidable. Even Keigo noted that, stating 'the string of affinity that binds you two is incredibly strong.'

Sakuma's heritage was revealed after a near-death encounter with the crow, who poisoned Sakuma out of sheer spite. His shikigami guardian appeared, healing the wound and preventing the spread of poison through his body. During the course of events with the crow demon, Karasu, Sakuma's own feelings for Kouga came to light; and some time after, Kouga returned them. The pair mated, though even seven years later, Kouga still avoids the subject of a human marriage. This has caused Sakuma to have doubts about their relationship, ones he doesn't vocalize unless intoxicated.

Sakuma proudly raised his two daughters, Mitsu and Yatsu, into young adulthood, and is currently raising a pair of twin sons, Hitaru and Yuki, both wolf-hanyou. He adores his children dearly. The peaceable man would go so far as to obliterate anyone who harms them.

Along with his family, Sakuma has friends he loves dearly. Such as the Tiger Demon Hayate, the first demon he ever met, who sparked his love for studying demons. Inuyama, a hanyou child of Inuyasha's and his dear friend Lieko. Lieko herself is an important person to Sakuma, and vice versa. They each had an effect on the other. Sakuma is willing to do anything for the sake of his friends, and when Lieko came to seek his help, he was only too willing to oblige.

He faced off against a possessed Sesshoumaru, who had been tainted by a shard of the Shikon no Tama, and was a puppet of Naraku [Later it was learned that this only happened due to Sesshoumaru willingly submitting for the safety of his children, who had been captured]. Sakuma was pushed to his absolute limits, invoking all the contracts he had at once, putting an immense strain on his body and abilities. Unfortunately, he did not survive long enough to see Sesshoumaru cured. Sakuma's own subconscious sealed away his powers, binding them to his soul, in preparation for moving to the next life.

However, Sesshoumaru used his own powerful blade to revive Sakuma and bring him back to the life he so willingly forfeit for the sake of his dear friend's happiness. Upon being brought back, Sakuma found his powers were 'gone' unaware that he himself had sealed them away.

It wasn't until one fateful night, he had a dream where a kind young woman told him his hope was not lost, merely out of his reach. That all he had to do was extend his hand for help, and it would be given. Doing as the woman wished, he woke the next morning, feeling better than he had in recent months. His power has been unsealed, but only a bit. Sakuma will need to once again learn how to use his power, and is once more ignorant that he possesses it.

Abilities: Sakuma is a onmyōji, an extremely powerful spiritualist with the capacity to command shikigami; strong spirits. Sakuma's parents were both practicing onmyōji until the day their son was born, in which time they chose to summon a shikigami [Keigo] and bind it in a contract to keep their son safe. Sakuma has gained considerable power over the past seven years, enough to now merit attention from the killer hanyou, Naraku.
