Actually there's a specific Wilton red food coloring that's particularly red so that when you put it in cupcake frosting it makes the frosting red not pink, but I don't remember what it's called. If you ask someone at Michael's craft store they should know. Or you could try looking it up online.
If I dye my hair red before the hawk it's probably going to be dark dark blood red. If I dye it after I cut it then probably black bangs with Vampire Red from Manic Panic, my hair takes it well and it fades to look like a sunset in my hair, it's really pretty. I did the underside of my hair that color once.
