Character History
I am Rane, seventh son of a dead house. I live as an anomaly among the Drow and the play thing of Matron Mistress Chessda of house Arabund who has a hobby of collecting unusual creatures. Thought I am bound to her house she has given me the name of Duis'Kenzani so that I might perhaps better remember my place in her little collection.
My mother, as I have been told, was Matron Phaerdril-a of house Fresek punished by the Dark Queen Loth for worshipping the glitter of gold above that of the Drow Deity or the Drow way of life. I was not born of her so much as I was cut out of her cold rotting corps and molting flesh, days after her death. I have surviving family members, a score or so of siblings that have taken on other house names as strong and notable soldiers for other matrons, finely trained in the bloody and brutal art of warfare. Perhaps I have passed one or two on the streets when I am permitted out but I could not even begin to tell them apart from the other thousands of Drow living in the Underdark.
For the youngest days of my life I had been raised by Seldsoyn, a rogue. With no experience in wean mothering a child I learnt the use of dagger and sword before I could clearly speak, read or write. He taught me more of rogue survival then the inner workings of Drow society, rarely ever correcting my innocent views on life. In one of the many mercenary outings of which I always shadowed my Master it was discovered that I was in the Spider Deity's blind spot, a void in Loth's all knowing view, as thin as the air itself. Seldsoyn mused that it had to do with the unusual circumstances of my being in the world as I was not born from the warmth of living flesh. He spent little time in the 'whys' of it but rather the 'hows' as in how he could best use it to his advantage.
I became my Master's thief and sneak, aiding or completing many tasks that other Drow would not do for fear of falling out of Loth's favour. Taking advantage of that little anomaly wasn't enough though when Master Seldsoyn and I were unable to obtain a rare item for Matron Mistress Chessda. To placate her raging displeasure and to save his own life I became forfeit and took the desired item's spot in Matron Mistress Chessda's unusual collection. Quite pleased with her new acquisition she tattooed me with her mark, a living spider of ink that spans the length of my back, it's legs extending down my own limbs and warping around my chest. She placed a heavy spell upon the ink, the spider under her command it allows her to keep an eye upon me as it crawls across my skin, always ready to bite deep into my scar crossed flesh if ever I displease her.
I am free to wander most of the halls of house Arabund when not under my Mistresses' call or preforming my sword dancing skills for her rather crewel children. I have made a friend in another of her collected items, Nehshi, a large shape shifting beast cat with white and black striped fur and a badly scarred eye. He has become a great companion and I rely on his wisdom to help me survive living in this strange house that has danger around every turn.
Recently Loth demanded a quest fulfilled by house Arabund that Matron Mistress Chessda was all too willing to complete. Considering the duration of the quest she has loaned out the majority of her creature collection and forces to the care of selective houses until her return so as to lighten her travel load. At the time in which she was to depart the entire Arabund complex was uprooted and vanished as if Loth herself had tucked the structures and it's may treasures into her back pocket to await Matron Mistress Chessda's return.
